On our way into St. Paul this morning, several members of ThinkProgress stopped to listen to a rally held by a group of Iraq war veterans who are opposed to the war. After denouncing Sen. John McCain’s treatment of veterans and his failure to vote for increase funding for veterans health programs, the speaker of the group said his fellow Iraq vets would travel to New Orleans to serve in relief efforts. “We hope that the world is watching; we hope that America is watching as returning war veterans continue to sacrifice and serve their country,” he said. Watch it:
Apparently Palin’s daughter is pregnant
http://www.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/09/01/palin.daughter/index.html
So that leaves us with a woman flying from Dallas to Anchorage with a stop in Seattle and then driving to the hospital in some podunk town to have the child , great judgement.
To the posting, how anyone who serves or served in the military could vote Republican is truly perplexing to me.

September 1st, 2008 at 1:05 pmPiling a lie upon a lie. Bristol is Trig’s mother. There is little doubt about that. Now this story gets floated about Bristol’s current “pregnancy” in an attempt to get ahead of the fact that she is carrying around baby fat from her pregnancy with Trig. I am sure that she is soon due to be having a “spontaneous miscarriage” as well. That ties the whole thing up in a neat little bundle. Poof! Scandal all gone!

How is that?

September 1st, 2008 at 1:08 pmTo my first post, unless this is kid #2 for Palin’s daughter??
The whole thing reeks of hypocricy, no matter the ultimate truth of the story
September 1st, 2008 at 1:08 pmWhere are all those big tough swat teams now?
Only bold enough to go after hippies apparently…..
These soldiers rock for sticking it in the face of the warmongers.

And it could all be forgotten, if Palin would simplyagree to a DNA mouth-swab. But McCain’s brain trust (such as it is) would think that too politically risky an act. So the rumors will continue.
September 1st, 2008 at 1:17 pmThere is NO way the polls are accurate on this race. They’ve p!ssed off one of the largest parts of their base.
I read an interesting editorial that said that the problem with the Neilsen ratings is that they don’t take into consideration CSPAN, PBS and internet broadcasts. That counting television viewwership was an outdated method for counting actual viewership.
If this counting method is obsolete, then pollsters have to admit that so is telephone calls to likely voters.
If we can put a man on the moon 40 years ago, then surely we can find a metter means for taking the pulse of the nation on such critical issues.

You got that right! The Rovian stench is emanating from every corner of McNumbNuts’ campaign these days. Desperation runs deep.
September 1st, 2008 at 1:20 pmMcCain’s record of voting against the troops should be the counter to his POW catch-all. If that doesn’t work, use his record voting for torture. Then throw in, ‘when he decides it’s improtant enough to vote’.
September 1st, 2008 at 1:32 pmTP: did you miss the story about the raids in St. Paul?
http://politics.slashdot.org/politics/08/08/31/2140252.shtml
I find it interesting that AP had the most detail on the story, msnbc had the same detail as the AP story, cnn said there were no arrests, and I didn’t find any mention of it at all on faux.
September 1st, 2008 at 1:33 pmGo vets, show McIIIrd up for the hypocrite and liar that he is, every where he goes. I’d just love to see the security folks arresting our troops for protesting the codger’s record of berating and short changing our veterans!

Who better to expose the lies and deceptions of this administration, fully supported by McCain, than those most directly affected by them. Now if we could only outlaw the insidious and hypocritical “support the troops” car magnets…

September 1st, 2008 at 1:34 pmI can’t believe that some of you idiots think jerking around about Palin’s daughter being pregnant belongs on this thread. Most of you seem to be obsessing about baby fat on top of it all. No wonder Bush got a second term!
Most importantly, there were many GI’s that were serious Viet Nam protesters. Back in that day, they were branded as anti-American, anti-’troop’ and worse. They had done their tours and come home convinced that no one should go there after them. What and why would anyone claim these soldiers hate our ‘troops’? They did their time in combat for us, in spite of the fact that a politician lied and manipulated fact to put them into harms way. They deserve just as much respect as any diehard neocon grunt. They’ve just got a very different opinion of what’s going on.
September 1st, 2008 at 1:39 pmI post this on every thread about vets. Sorry if you’ve seen it before but it is something that everyone should know.
The GOP does not support vets says Iraq and Afgan veterans.
Please take a moment to look at the ratings for our senate by our vets.

September 1st, 2008 at 1:56 pmThe media won’t touch it. It’s amazing how they have never touched McCain’s anti-vet votes. Vet groups continuously criticize McCain on these votes, but the average voter will never hear of these things.
Remember, McCain got 80% of the anti-war vote in the Republican primary in New Hampshire. If that doesn’t tell you how misinformed (and dumb) the public is, I don’t know what will.
September 1st, 2008 at 1:58 pmSwat team was hiding in the bushes clean out their pants. The war always comes home.
September 1st, 2008 at 1:58 pmThink Progress stopped by to speak with these men and women, but I’m sure the MSM just sped on past.
This is an important story out of St. Paul, but will get no coverage.

there too much invested in the military right now.
The Military Economy we are all living under overshadows The Civilian Economy — which is tanking.
September 1st, 2008 at 2:10 pmMy argument, from the beginning, against McCain has been the following:
As a veteran, I find it appalling that a man who has built his entire career, and this campaign, on his military service and the fact that he was a P.O.W. has been given a failing grade by every major veterans group in the country due to his voting record. I refuse to vote for a man with no integrity.
I actually had a Republican tell me that the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth is a veterans’ organization. To which I replied, “What have they ever done for veterans other than lie to them?” It was rather telling as to just how far down the rabbit hole the Repubs have gone to sell their particular brand of crazy though.
Wish I could have been at this rally this morning but, alas, had to work. Give ‘em hell for me though brothers!
September 1st, 2008 at 3:16 pmIf you looked up the definition of patriotism in the dictionary the picture of these soldiers would be there.

It’s not like the GOP really gave the Republicans much of a choice for an anti-war candidate outside of Ron Paul. Plus Ron Paul was never much of a threat as a candidate, so when McCain started rolling he gained those anti-war votes by default in most cases. You shouldn’t throw out stats like this unless you know how to interpret them.
September 1st, 2008 at 4:11 pmJust returned from this rally–many, many, many people of all stripes marching in protest to the Iraqi occupation by Bush and the neocons. After Bush was re-elected, he should have left Iraq as it was his only reason to invade. I was taken by the surprising numbers of police in riot gear–riot police? In St. Paul?
Look for my sign: “Same GOP Circus–Different GOP clowns.”
September 1st, 2008 at 4:56 pmWill the republican Gestapo agents (local police) use tasers on our veterans too? Or just our other citizens?
September 1st, 2008 at 5:03 pmMSNBC just had a report that the tear gas has been fired into the crowds in Minneapolis/St. Paul.
Boy, the GOP sure didn’t hesitate to “green light” the attack orders with their new puppet shock troops for the week.
September 1st, 2008 at 6:40 pmSmall? Not according to what I read off of Yahoo and the other news services.
Then again, McCain thinks every retail store should be able to break a $500 bill on the spot, regardless of location and specialty.

I have an answer to that.
September 2nd, 2008 at 1:49 am“crowd” (sorry — still blurry from the cornea surgery last week). Did the TP Staffers get any video of the leftist protesters (probably not from this veteran group) who started fires, threw bottles, broke windows, slashed tires and reportedly attacked delegates?
If they did it’s about fu(king time.
