The topic of the thread was hate speech in blogs (left and right). There is hate speech in blogs. A simple statement of fact. The question was also raised as to whether such speech might turn away those who are seeking info and expecting to find a civil discussion of the issues. I’m not the least bit surprised by the venom spewed by those at the extremes, and I certainly don’t expect civility from the majority of bloggers.

I have read you many times on here and you only criticize Democrats. You never criticize Republicans. Yet you want us to believe you are an Obama supporter! I again call B.S.

Go negative, and go negative early has been the hallmark of most Republican campaigns for the last decade. When they complain about these tactics, it is only because they know that this sort of thing works, and it is a strategy they want to keep all to themselves.

I’ll bet Joe, Tucker, et al would are also by those hateful words, published anonymously in 1775, in a pamphlet titled “Common Sense”.

Of course I’ve engaged in discussion. I’ve responded to those who try to minimize or excuse the vile posts on blogs (left and right). That was the topic of this thread. Discussion doesn’t just refer to conversation that follows your line of thinking. You have to be open to the fact that not everyone will agree with you on every topic.

Fred, I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that you didn’t notice that I pointed out at least twice that the far right is as hateful as the far left. If you had seen that and still made this comment, your response would appear to be disingenuous.

The pay for posts thing again? Would you please post a link showing that that actually occurs? That would be very interesting. As for the GOP, I hardly think they would pay folks to post comments in favor of Obama. Granted, my posts aren’t rabidly anti-Republican like most here, but they are still critical of Republican positions on a number of issues.

Politics is not an issue at my church. Our pastor preaches only what is in the Bible. The Bible doesn’t mention Dems, Repubs, liberals, or conservatives and neither does our pastor. His only agenda is to teach what the Bible says. His concern is the spiritual condition of the people with whom he comes into contact, not for whom they vote. Sorry to disappoint you yet again.

Defend your ideals all day. Is that dependent upon vile comments against those who have different beliefs? Are your ideals that weak?

The mainstream media is guiltier than bloggers of using vile, hateful language? Which TV station airs such disgusting language? Radio obviously has more conservatives than libs, some of whom are as mean as or worse than any lib I’ve encountered. As is regularly pointed out here, they have a relatively small audience, mostly committed conservatives. The left does have a few radio stations from which to spew their hatred in response to the right. Television personalities are certainly not as liberal as they used to be. The views of the left are always present in the news; they are just presented in a nicer fashion than in blogs.
