On June 13, while speaking at the Council on Foreign Relations, former New York governor George Pataki declared that it was “unequivocal” that “we know for a fact that human activity is changing the amount of carbon — CO2 and CO2 equivalents — in the atmosphere.”
But Sen. John McCain’s (R-AZ) running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, disagrees. Asked in a Newsmax interview recently about her “take on global warming,” Palin said that she is “not one” who “would attribute it to being man-made.”
Asked about her quote while speaking on an energy panel today at the University of Minnesota, Pataki said he was “not concerned” about Palin’s denial of a human role in global warming, claiming that she’s “an energy expert”:
DETCHON: And the second question, this is the curve ball. I’m sorry, but it’s the audience, what can I say? Are you concerned that Governor Palin recently said, “I’m not one though who would attribute it to being man-made?”
PATAKI: No, I’m not concerned about that. Governor Palin is, I think, an energy expert and that’s, I think it was Bud was saying earlier, when it comes to understanding the fact that we have to create new domestic sources, not just of breakthrough technological sources of energy, but of petroleum as well, she is absolutely right. And I think that when it comes to the transition to this new technology and the new economy, we will have, we do have to drill.
Despite the fact that 61 percent of Americans believe climate change is affected by human activity, Pataki claimed later in his answer that conservatives like Palin “are in better tune with the American people when it comes” to energy issues. Watch it:
Apparently taken off guard by Palin’s climate change skepticism, the McCain campaign is now trying to claim that she is “a leader” on the issue. But, as the Center for American Progress Action Fund’s Daniel Weiss and James Kvaal noted, Palin opposes listing polar bears as a threatened species because it could require action on climate change.
What do you expect from someone (Palin) who thinks Creationism should be taught along side science in public schools?
September 1st, 2008 at 5:25 pmI mean, there's a chance, a real chance, that the Earth really, really might only be 6,000 years old, and that dinosaurs really, really were on Noah's ark...
Really... seriously... stop laughing, or crying, as the case may be...
September 1st, 2008 at 5:27 pmOT, there is a new CBS poll that has Obama/Biden eight points ahead of McStain/Palin (poll is 48 - 40)
http://www.cbsnews.com/ stories/ 2008/ 09/ 01/ opinion/ polls/ main4405106.shtml
This is the first poll out that includes both veeps. Most interesting number, to me, is that support from Independents went from McStain +12 to Obama +6 (now 43 - 37) which is a full 18 point flip.
I seriously doubt that, hurricane or not, the GOP convention was poised to flip these numbers back to McStain.
PEACE

September 1st, 2008 at 5:28 pmThe GOoPers, and Pataki is one of the more sane ones, are going to be so tired from the constant tap-dancing they'll be doing re both McCain and Palin. The only good thing, for the Reps, is that Palin's foibles will distract from McCain's myriad senior moments. She's basically Dan Quayle with tits.
September 1st, 2008 at 5:28 pmJesus Christ, climate change is SCIENCE, not religion.
There's evidence that can be tested and verified. Conclusions can be drawn from this evidence.
It doesn't matter what percentage of people "believe in" climate change, because it's not like "believing in" Christ's crucifixion. In the case of religion, you have to decide to "believe" because you can't "know". In the case of climate change, you CAN know.
There's just no question, based on evidence, that climate change exists, that it's going to cause long term damage if left unchecked, and that it's man-made.
September 1st, 2008 at 5:30 pmStop laughing... you'll hurt Sarah's feelings... seriously...
Don't make me come down there... stop it, right now...
September 1st, 2008 at 5:33 pmThat picture of Pataki... at the top...
Doesn't the look on his face just scream..." Oh, great, now I've got to shill for not just one, but TWO complete idiots..."
September 1st, 2008 at 5:34 pmIt is against the rules of BIG OIL POLITICIAN OWNERSHIP for said politician to give ANY credence to man-made Climate Change.
JEEZ, don't you guys know anything??
September 1st, 2008 at 5:36 pm.
Gov Palin is an energy expert because...
... There are oil wells in her state?
Gov Palin is a foreign policy expert because...
... Her state is the closest to Russia?
Gov Palin is a baby expert because...
... Her 17 yr old unwed daughter is having one?
.
September 1st, 2008 at 5:37 pmSo, she is a "leader" just because the GOP says she is? Yeah, OK, duh!
September 1st, 2008 at 5:39 pmShe CAN'T believe global warming is man-made. She arranged to tie Alaska's revenue to increased profits from the oil fields and is paying off the citizens with a cut of the action. This clever little ploy to get herself re-elected governor for life depends on people burning more and more fossil fuel.
September 1st, 2008 at 5:43 pmSarah Palin is a supporter of big oil, and that makes her an "energy expert". How can these people say these things with a straight face?
September 1st, 2008 at 5:46 pmDave Letterman used to say, "Pataki is wacky!"

It's about time someone did a poll after Obama's speech. I wasn't able to find any other polling outfit that has taken a poll in the last four days. Something weird is going on here. One would think that every polling outfit would have wanted to do a poll the day after the Democratic convention. But they didn't.
September 1st, 2008 at 5:51 pmAnd dumb as a rock Republican Representative Michelle Bachmann said the planet had been saved 2000 years ago by Jesus. Surprised McCain didn't pick her. Perhaps her ass isn't quite as attractive.

Actually, it might be the overdose of Botox and her eye lifts that have left her looking like a Halloween Jack o'lantern that turned ol' Johnny Boy off.
September 1st, 2008 at 5:55 pmPerhaps if Palin was a better mother/parent rather then spewing her perverse and anti-factual statements then her unwed teenage daughter wouldn't be knocked up for a second time.
September 1st, 2008 at 5:58 pmI take that back. Gallup finally did their daily tracking poll today.
Gallup Daily: Obama Maintains 6-Point Lead, 49% to 43%
They say that McCain got a 3 point bump for Palin. I'm betting that is based strictly on the fact that she is a woman and the people polled haven't heard all that we know about her.
I found out something interesting from Gallup's page. They say:
How do they get the cell phone numbers to place the calls to. I also wonder, how do they know what party the people they are calling are affiliated with?
There are so many ways to skew a poll and I really think they have been doing it with this election.
September 1st, 2008 at 5:59 pmMy money is on Palin not lasting through the convention vote. She'll make Thomas Eagleton look like a long-time candidate.
September 1st, 2008 at 6:00 pmYou know, if I was a mother of a special needs baby and had a pregnant teenage daughter, I would stay home and attend to them rather than ignoring them for my political ambitions.
The more I learn about Palin, the less I like her.

How stupid do these people think we are. Do they really think that just because they say something that it becomes automatically true?
September 1st, 2008 at 6:03 pmWho??????
September 1st, 2008 at 6:12 pmIf she were an "energy expert", and sane, she would realize the obvious fact that conservation is the first step in any practical energy policy. We could eliminate our foreign oil imports, many times over, if we eliminated waste.
Efficient bulbs, less driving, and a new generation of vehicles which get 50-100mpg, will do more than anything we can do to the supply side of the equation. And the only things keeping that from being general knowledge are greed and profound stupidity.
But, the myth of perpetual increase in consumption has been exploded. Once the market pressure hit the tipping point? world energy consumption started down. And I don't see oil prices coming down enough to change that trend any time soon.
September 1st, 2008 at 6:14 pmHow stupid do these people think we are.
My theory, Bilbo, is that they are not talking to "us" anymore. All they can hope at this point, is to keep the hardcore 20%ers in the fold. They know that the vast, moderate, majority is lost to them so they are just going to feed the morons their talking points until the centrists become complacent again. In 20 years or so.

17 year old gets pregnant - seems she's been ignoring her family for some time.

Aye. Evidently, now it's not just a matter of having faith to move mountains, but of altering reality for certain follower types open to moonification. In short, rather than, "If I believe it, it can come true," they're claiming, "If I believe it, it IS true." Those who won't buy into it with them are liberals, commies, secularists, atheists, environmentalists, terrorists, extremists, vegetarians . . .
September 1st, 2008 at 6:20 pmNEW POLL:
USAToday/Gallup: Obama 50%, McCain 43%.
September 1st, 2008 at 6:22 pm"Governor Palin is...an energy expert..."
And where, may I ask did she acquire this expertise?
From the PTA session on Parental Guidance of Teenagers energy symposium.
September 1st, 2008 at 6:25 pmFrom the University of Idaho School of Urinalism, college of Energy?
From the Wasilla Chamber of Commerce Beauty Pageant Seminar on parading energy?
From the Planned Parenthood Society Pamphlet on Teenage sexual energy?
From the McSame Institute of POW (Pregnant or What)prevarication energy options?
Speaking as a resident of New York, we didn't think our former governor was completely in tune with the people himself.
September 1st, 2008 at 6:25 pmAll of today's and yesterday's polls put Obama ahead of McGramps. Ooooops....where are the reich-wingers now with their factless rhetoric that the DNCC didn't help out Obama?
September 1st, 2008 at 6:28 pmSince when was Palin an energy expert? What about hundreds and thousands of scientists who agree climate change is essentially man-made? The only policy related issue I know of Palin is she supports drilling in ANWR. Otherwise, I know that she was runner up in a beauty pageant, was a mayor of a town with 8,000 citizens, she mislead the public about her daughter, and obviously failed to pound her 'christian right-wing values' into her daughter's head. I'm so glad Palin is on McCain's ticket. muahahaha
September 1st, 2008 at 6:30 pmOn the bright side.
If Ms. Palin proves to be as disastrous a choice as she appears? We could be witnessing the end of the "Religious Right" as the hammer of the GOP.
September 1st, 2008 at 6:38 pmIBTunion4obama Says:

- - The same way she's a an expert on dealing with Russia: proximity.
Apparently, Sarah's also an expert on he human reproductive system.
September 1st, 2008 at 6:44 pmThese people are such losers, so anti-humanity. Anti-earth. Please, make them all go away until we can find a way to help our future. They evidently don't care- Palin certainly included.
September 1st, 2008 at 6:45 pmIf the Republicans had a time machine, they'd set it for 1776 and go back to colonial times until they found a Founding Father who agreed that the only thing that should separate "church and state" is God's amendable will. Just don't ask how many doors had to be knocked on or bullets expended to find this "Founding Father".
September 1st, 2008 at 6:48 pmGovernor Pywacky? Sounds like the name of Kim Novak's cat in the movie, Bell, Book and Candle. Sarah Palin has zero (0) foreign policy experience and she is hypocritical about the notion of choice. Apparently, her 17-year-old daughter got to "choose" to carry her unborn baby to term. Ms. Palin wants to deny other women's daughters this same right to "choose." Apparently it's the do-as-I-say, but not do-as-I-do right wing crap philosophy. Maybe Ms. Palin should just stay home and take care of her children. Isn't that her first responsibility in life? Tend to those that you have brought into this world and leave the preaching to others...
September 1st, 2008 at 6:56 pmSo?
September 1st, 2008 at 7:15 pmMy God, are these the kind of people we have entrusted to run
September 1st, 2008 at 7:25 pmour cities and states? Is there any falsehood they will not
embrace in the furtherance of some political agenda? Why on earth the audience would not break out in hysterical laughter
at Patakis' pronouncement of Palin being an "energy expert"
is beyond credulity.
Which American people? The flat-earth, creationist-believing, home-schooled, conservative ones.
September 1st, 2008 at 7:27 pmDon't the creationists believe that god gave humans a brain with the ability to understand science?
September 1st, 2008 at 7:33 pmPeople who are true christians should be embarrassed that this fringe group is giving all of them a bad name; it's bad enough that religion demands that you have faith in a spirit in the sky who controls every breath and wing flutter on this tiny rock in the limitless universe, but they also have to deal with their bretheren who proudly display their ignorance denying scientific evidence.
Republicans don't understand science. That's why they employ people with the jobs that won't threaten their positions or futz up Dumbya's Barney & Elmo double-dip when he has John Bolton sleep over. BTW...Bolton is scared of the dark. He's afraid of those scary Iranians!
