This is a sad story. This young girl is facing some of the toughest times of her life. It’s not funny and it’s nothing to be triumphant about. The saddest part of the story, of course, is that her mother was willing to risk her daughter’s privacy in order to advance her own career. It’s sickening. Palin should have turned the McCain people down. If she’s so big on motherhood, she ought to try acting like a mother and not a barracuda.

As evidenced by her trooper-gate scandal.

As evidenced by the choice to fly from Texas to Alaska while leaking amniotic fluid. (There are state of the art medical centers in Texas. She could have picked one.)

As evidenced by the choice to accept the VP slot knowing full well that she most probably isn’t qualified to be VP.

As evidenced by her choice to accept the position of running mate to John McCain knowing full well that if McCain won the presidency, she would most likely uproot her family and move to Washington at a time when her newly married and expecting daughter would be starting a new life. And she would be dealing with the rigors of a special needs baby as well. The Culture shock from moving from Alaska to WA DC would definitely take some adjustment.

I have no problem with her being a nursing mother and working full time, many, many women do it all the time. And if she had been any other woman who had worked for the patriarchal party of the GOP for most of their adult life, it wouldn’t be an issue for me. However, something doesn’t seem quite right to me.

Perhaps she is indeed just a slot filler for the VP slot until McCain gets elected. Then she could all too easily resign her post citing “family matters” or the “need to spend more time with my family” as so many of the Repubs do and then John McCain is free and available to appoint whomever he wishes to the VP office
(Lieberman/Romney/Cheney???) . After all, I don’t really believe that Mccain Chose this woman, I believe that she was chosen FOR him – by whom, I don’t know, nonetheless.

Does anyone know if Congress needs to approve the VP in a case like this? It certainly poses an interesting question, does it not? Inquiring minds want to know.

1. I think it’s fine to examine Palin’s positions on sex education, family values, etc. However, leave her daughter out of it. A pregnant 17 year old has enough to worry about without having her pregnancy the subject of political paparazzi.

2. This is vintage Rove. The Palin announcement takes the focus off of Obama and puts it on McCain. Palin takes the heat for several days and decides her nomination has become a distraction. She removes her name and either Ridge, Pawlenty, or Lieberman is named her replacement. The left is blamed for Palin’s departure thus pacifying the religious right, and the few women dumb enough to support Palin only for her gender.

Two Points:

1. They are most likely going there to INSURE that no medical records or other relevant information are released without court action.

2. If Sen. McCAin Knew about this weeks ago, why are these operatives just now going to “Handle the Matter”
