There are just 36 black delegates at this week’s Republican National Convention, “fewer than 2% of the total and a sharp drop-off from 2004,” when 6.7 percent were black. At last week’s Democratic National Convention, 24.5 percent of delegates were black. Recent polls show that about nine out of 10 black voters support Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL).
I’m a rainbow !

September 2nd, 2008 at 10:43 amAnd yet the network and cable shows have managed to find African American GOP pundits to throw on the screen every day.
As a friend of mine says: Voting is like driving. If you want to go forward, shift to “D”. If you want to go backwards, go with “R”.
PEACE
September 2nd, 2008 at 10:44 amI look for this 2% of the delegates to be on-camera as much as possible. The GOP has been using their token non-whites as window dressing for years.
September 2nd, 2008 at 10:45 amAN injustice towards anyone, anywhere is an injustice to all humankind .1 million dead iraqis and 108 dead torture victims await justice .

The Republic of Stupidity Says:
I’m thinking of buying a bow tie and trying to get in at the republican convention…..I’m white so I would probably be allowed in.
September 2nd, 2008 at 10:50 amGuido the Loving OBGYN Says:
Yeah I still don’t understand the Republican talking point that blacks are voting now only because there is a black candidate. What point are they trying to make? That they should be disqualified from voting? Since they presumeably would not vote otherwise?
September 2nd, 2008 at 10:50 am
______
Perhaps they should be made to take a reading test or pay a poll tax before voting. Or they should only be allowed to vote if their grandfathers voted – that’ll keep the “sunshine voters” away.
September 2nd, 2008 at 10:54 amVP candidate Palin says that the Iraq war is about oil … and according to our international agreements as well as basic human morality these are the real crimes punishable by real laws .
September 2nd, 2008 at 10:54 amGood morning NANCY PELOSI !
The blacks attending the RNC funeral — er, convention — are probably the only ones who won’t be involved in some caging scheme by the time that November 4 rolls around.
September 2nd, 2008 at 10:54 amIt just shows that black people are smarter than white people.
September 2nd, 2008 at 10:55 amOh, those come directly from the Stepford Factory.
September 2nd, 2008 at 10:57 amYou’d have to stop making sense and switch to constantly repeating party line talking points even if they don’t answer the question. But if you don’t mind looking like an idiot you can probably get in.
September 2nd, 2008 at 10:59 amIt’s a “Big Tent”–with two clearly marked entrances.
Is Alan Keyes going to speak? I sure hope so!
What about Condi Rice? Colin Powell?

___________
Me too, Fred… a gentleman of the uh, African Amercian persuasion once called me “one of the whitest white guys” he had ever seen…
Don’t forget the horn-rimmed glasses and tweed jacket w/ that bow tie, Fred. And the shirt w/ different colored collar and cuffs… it’s an ensemble look… and it matters… to THEM… except for the ones in Hooters t-shirts and NASCAR caps. Damn… I’m getting vicious… and vile… better switch to de-caf…
September 2nd, 2008 at 11:04 amWhy would any black person in their right mind go to a Klan rally? The Republican party has a few token blacks, but you noticed they don’t have any black elected members of Congress. Just look at their record; They’ve only had two blacks elected to Congress since slavey ended. One was Sen. Edward Brooks, R-Mass, and Rep. J.C. Watts R-Ok and that’s it. That’s a fact, jack. Now what doesn’t that tell you about the Republican party? That’s right! How could a major party in this country not have even one black elected to either house of congress? I’m sure they are proud of their record. But I say it’s a sad commentary and speak volumes about the GOP. They claim to be, but it’s obvious that they aren’t the party of Abraham Lincoln.
September 2nd, 2008 at 1:50 pmAs the repubs have already started issuing thinly veiled racial slurs against Obama, wonder how the Black Repubs will feel at the end of the next few months.
September 2nd, 2008 at 2:04 pmI don’t think there are a lot of blacks in the KKK.
September 2nd, 2008 at 3:19 pmMy guess is that almost all the Blacks in the Repug Party are Oreo’s (black on the outside, white on the inside). Or they just don’t see themselves as Black.
