Scarborough rips Bush for using Gustav to demand more offshore drilling: ‘Just stop!’

This morning, President Bush discussed Hurricane Gustav, using the occasion to push for more offshore drilling:

BUSH: One thing that’s for certain, when Congress comes back they got to understand that we need more domestic energy, not less. And one place to find it is offshore America, lands that have been, have been, uh, taken off the book, so to speak, by congressional law. And now they need to give us a chance to find more oil and natural gas here at home.

Reacting to Bush’s statement on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman (D) called Bush’s statement “the worst pivot ever,” questioning “how you go from hurricane to offshore drilling.” Scarborough agreed. “Just stop!” he said. Watch it:

This is a preview for tonight's speech at the RNC. Hopefully, the country will feel the same as Joe.

  2. upside99 Says:

Even Joe sees the load of crappola spewing out of the Repugs' collective arses.

Maybe we will now start see Obama/Biden pulling away like all logic points to.

  3. misshusseinmolly Says:

Yes -- watching the media coverage of the RNC will be like watching the media coverage of a train wreck. A truly horrible thing to witness, but oddly compelling.

And, of course, there will be the Daily Show's unique perspective...

  4. Zimzone Says:

Smok'n Joe is not trustworthy. What he says on his show and to a Republican audience may well be opposing views.

Leave it to Bush to make lemons out of lemonade...

  5. Mark @ News Corpse Says:

It's all about politics to these people. Everything - from campus shootings to hurricanes - is about what is in their political interests. Just repulsive. But it won't be much longer now...

Latest US offshore oil auction draws hundreds of bids on fraction of Gulf acreage offered

WASHINGTON - Dozens of energy companies bid Tuesday to explore nearly two million acres of the western Gulf of Mexico for oil and natural gas, but no offers were made for 90 percent of the acreage on the auction block.

The Interior Department on Tuesday received 423 bids from 47 companies to explore a swath of the Gulf of Mexico off Texas. The bids cover 319 of the 3,412 tracts the federal government put up for lease, or about 10 percent of the 18 million acres available....snip....

George W, a noun, a verb and Drill, Drill, Drill. Small ideas for a small mind. The coming weeks should be most interesting.

  9. The Shadow Says:

Don't be too quick to give Scarborough too much credit for calling Bush out on this one. In fact it was the guest who is sitting next to the parrot (Mika) who first questioned Bush pivot to oil drilling during a diaster. Then Joe went along with him on his point. Joe's first comments were to commend Bush on how slick his pivot was and Mika agree of course. I wonder why her husband doesn't realize she is sleeping with Joe Scarborough? Or hasn't anyone noticed the close relationship and the fact that she parrots vertually every word he utters. If she's not sleeping with him I'll eat my hat. I know because I have been watching them every day since the first show right after Imus got canned. If you doubt what I'm saying just watch the show for about a week and you will see what I see.

Also did anyone notice John McCain looking at Sara's butt on the day he annouced her as his running mate. Go back and look at the video again and your eye's will be amazed at how he never took his eyes off that butt. She must have the best looking butt on the planet, just watch his expression as she was standing in front of him speaking. I've been trying to get a good look at it myself, but there's alway a network logo over "it". I wouldn't vote for her, but from what I can see, McCain has a pretty good eye.

  10. sluggo Says:

Joe's problem is that he is continually asked to parrot the Republican's talking points on the air. When Bush uses such a lame excuse for more off-shore drilling the conservative commentators are expected to sit up, repeat the "arguments" with a straight face, and act like they make sense.

In the old days they could do this, but with things falling apart for the Republicans and with most people (and viewers) no longer believing such nonsense, the "news" people like Joe are starting to wonder if they will have a job in the near future.

If Obama wins the Corporate Media will shift to a more liberal news format (they don't care about politics, just about selling stuff). People will remember Joe as that idiot that kept spouting absolutely insane talking points and Joe may not have a job.

So, rather than keep presenting such insane arguments by Bush Joe is trying to reposition himself so he can survive on television next year.

I suspect you will be seeing a lot of MSM people doing the same, with the exception of FOX. (The FOX people have their own universe and rely on the 20-28% of the population that still support Bush - the crazy minority we will always have.)

Do we trust Joe to change? Has his past history of reading the Bush talking points tainted his future in journalism?

  11. House of Roberts Says:

Shadow, you type really, really, loud.

  12. katy Says:

i don't trust ANY of 'em.

    no way. no how.

That other stuff got in the way of thier agenda. This one they can use to thier advantage, you know like any good merican would.

  16. Robt Says:

Scar wants Americans to believe President Bush and McCain's campaign aren't scripted and planned ?

Geore and Johnny not long ago had a meeting in front of the White House and GW siad, " he will do whatever the McCain camp asks of him"

    Come on Scar...............?

  17. MapleStreet Says:

I'm trying to follow the logical link from a hurricaine to the need for more offshore drilling.

What, you say that Bush Said it ?

    Never mind.

seriously, more use of fossil fuels = more dramatic instability in the weather.

  18. cage free brown Says:

now he's entitled to repeat one hundred jackass Republican talking points without fear of having his "Independence" questioned.

So they are leasing the off-shore acres without the approval of Congress. What's up with that?

  21. ljm Says:

There we go! I thought W wouldn't have anything to talk about!

He can now change any topic out there with...... drill, drill, drill.

  22. The Shadow Says:

No House of Roberts, I just want to be noticed. Most people think everything they read is true. Sometimes the facts are missing from a story. I watch that show every morning, and I know why Scarborough came to his point after being prompted too.

  24. Abu Ben Hussein Leporello Says:

If nothing else, this is a start. At least Somebody in the MSM Finally woke up and said, this is Way too ridiculous! If a few more people join this trend we could see a re-emergence of (Dare I say it?) The Liberal Media! It's not likely, but it's still a pretty picture.
Impeach Pelosi, Cheney and Bush and Save the Constitution!

  25. upside99 Says:

I guess we need to put even more drilling and production platforms in the Gulf, so they can increase the odds of additional oil spills from all the hurricanes we will be seeing over the next 50 years.

What does Dubya have against the Gulf of Mexico, anyway?

  26. sectionop92 Says:

Bush finally connected the dots yesterday and realized that Gustav hit the Gulf coast and that oil platforms are offshore in the Gulf. So he made his own 39th Parallel off of that.
