Palin: Iraq is a task ‘from God.’

Huffington Post reports that on June 8, Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK) addressed the graduating class of commission students at the Wasilla Assembly of God church. During that address, Palin portrayed the Iraq was as a quest decreed by God, and said that U.S. soldiers were carrying out “God’s plan”:

Pray for our military men and women who are striving to do what is right. Also, for this country, that our leaders, our national leaders, are sending [U.S. soldiers] out on a task that is from God. That’s what we have to make sure that we’re praying for, that there is a plan and that that plan is God’s plan.

During that speech, Palin also promoted a $30-billion natural gas pipeline project, stating, “God’s will has to be done in unifying people and companies to get that gas line built.”

Digg It!

Someone out there please make a nice coherant post comparing Palin to Michelle Bachmann of MN CD 6. I am from the neighboring district, and they are batshit crazy twins!

There has to be some logic in their choice of Palin. But, for the life of me I can't figure it out. I really don't think this is the kind of publicity they were hoping for during their convention.

So this means God actually had a plan for the invasion and occupation of Iraq?

    Well, at least somebody did.

Don't get too close to Bush, the dullness might rub off. It appears the stupid has already penetrated your brain. Sorry to hear about that.

BTW: God does not do pipelines, not now, not ever.

  12. tom Says:

You know, as I was first learning more about Failin' Palin, I joked to a friend that there was no such person. In actuality, Michelle Bachmann found out she was going to lose her re-election bid so she dyed her hair, changed her name and moved to Alaska.

I am beginning to think that I was right!

If you talk to God, you're praying. If God talks to you, you have schizophrenia. Well, let's wait a bit and see what new innane drivel comes from Crazy Town, AKA the Republican party.

    Bilbo Hussein Baggins Says:

There has to be some logic in their choice of Palin.

The logic is that grampy woke up from a nap and saw Obama talking to an enthustiastic crowd of 70+ thousand last Thursday night and had a rare moment of clarity and realized he's seriously screwed. He had nothing to lose by going with the cute wingnut and since he doesn't value women as anything more than arm candy he doesn't get that most other people do. So, he picks the ex beauty queen and gets the PUMA vote and the crazysforchrist vote at the same time. He thought.

Now he's really screwed. If he keeps her he loses the "sane" vote, and Cindy hits him with a frying pan everytime she catches him staring at Palin's ass. If he dumps her, he loses the only votes he had a chance at, the "crazysforchrist".

I look at it a little differently. The way I see it, God's tried countless times to prevent this kind of pain and suffering - sending us people from Jesus and Mohammed and Buddha to Mohandas Gandhi and Martin Luther King and Mother Theresa to show us how we can prevent this pain and suffering.

The problem is that we humans fail time and time again to heed the warnings. I don't think it's for lack of trying on God's part - it's us that aren't holding up our end of the bargain.

bit supposes the Creator could have made you, and bit, to be cocker spaniels. You know, wag your tail, try to please, and yapp really loudly. But He, the Creator, didn’t make people to be that way. He made them with free will.

How much of that “…pain and suffering…” do you suppose is really caused by other people exercising their free will?

For example, in the US more that 3,000 unborn are destroyed every day. Is this something for which we should blame the Creator, or do we simply not consider this to be free will and part of the pain and suffering?

The Creator is not destroying 3,000 unborn every day in the U.S. People do this. In many, if not most, cases irresponsible people cause these unborn to be destroyed.

The Creator allows people to be agents of life, but that’s not what many choose.

My experience is that people who use this kind of rhetoric have their own agenda. In these cases, her husband is an oil exec so the connection should be rather easy to make.

How does this not make her "blasphemous" in God's eyes? As a professed Christian, how could you possibly tolerate and encourage this type of behavior?

    _______

Interesting way to insert your wedge issue into a completely unrelated discussion. But I'll follow that road you've started.

In the U.S. every day, more than 6,700 born are also destroyed. 1,780 of these are destroyed by heart disease. 1,500 are destroyed by cancer. Strokes destroy almost 400 born per day, and lung disease destroys another 350 born.

With tragic rates of pain and suffering like this, not caused by the hand of the Creator, one would think you'd be a huge supporter of doing something about these tragic death rates among the born. Perhaps with, say, a universal health care system that allows the least among us a chance to prevent and cure their chronic diseases. It'd even help out those unborn you care about so much by guaranteeing their mothers prenatal care.

This mortality rate of the born would seem to be an even more urgent problem than that of the unborn. I wonder why you focus so much on the latter.

  82. pete Says:

That's one way to look at it, desertflower. However, i think the logic goes more like:

The GOP nominates such monumentally flawed candidates that only the psychochristians will vote for them. They lose in a tremendous landslide and then? The GOP gets four years to blame the "libruls" for every disaster they inherit from Bushco. By the end of the first term, every Reichwing moron in the country will be convinced that Bushco never happened. They were really robots created by "libruls" to make the GOP look bad.

Make no mistake. The 2012 version of the GOP will scream about "Obama's depression", "Obama's energy crisis" and "Obama's war". And the years 2000-20008 will be called "the ascension of the Left". Oddly, it will be "the Left" which will need to preserve Bush as a household name. Because his "loyal followers" will spend the next four years rejecting, denying, and forgetting the Worst President Ever.

Together they are more than one president can improve upon in one term, maybe not even in two - so if they sacrifice this election, they can gear up for 2012 or 2016 and enumerate the "failures" of Obama (with more than a little help from the Repugs) as they attempt to steal the White House.

The link above had a link to her church Wasilla Assembly of God's recorded sermons and supposedly this is a quote from one of them:

"We need to think like Jesus thinks. We are in a time and a season of war, and we need to think like that. We need to develop that instinct. We need to develop as believers the instinct that we are at war, and that war is contending for your faith. ... Jesus called us to die."

Yikes. The web site has gone down now for some reason. Hmmmm, I wonder if it has something to do with that team of vetting minions that went to Alaska today...

Scary stuff, mary. It's very frightening when a preacher confuses Jesus with George Patton. There's a very good reason why Chaplains don't lead troops and Generals shouldn't teach theology.

Since pete has made it clear elsewhere that he doesn't believe anything spiritual, shouldn't he disqualify himself from commenting on a spiritual message from a Christian church.

bit can read these four or five sentences and recall similar sermons that have nothing to do with "Jesus being Patton."

If this speaker is remarking on "spiritual warfare," your suggestions is totally off base.

  90. dbadass Says:

doesn't god have better shit to do what with being god and all? Are all the other god's so petty and vengeful? Shit if I wanna believe in something with no tangible evidences at least I want them to be a happy fun sort of god. Maybe god should be more like Santa and less like some sort of angry lunatic

  91. TeleMan Says:

commenting on a spiritual message from a Christian church.

I thought it was "love thy neighbor."

If God had wanted us to go to war wouldn't we have a easy win? (Assuming God is on our side, that is.)

Doesn't this show he doesn't care?

  93. impeachcheneythenbush Says:

Those who proclaim to know the mind of God have a serious misunderstanding of their place in the cosmos. Hubris is a very dangerous trait to have in place of a recognition of reality. We've seen it abundantly in Bush, and Palin seems to carry that even further. I expect we will shortly see Palin's announcement that she has changed her mind about the VP slot and needs to spend much more time taking care of her special needs child. Sane Republicans are just as as astounded by this choice as we are!!

  94. pete Says:

bit suffers from the common misconception that there is anything supernatural about the human spirit. Spirituality is a natural part of being human and anyone who denies their spiritual needs is likely to become ill. But sick phucks who use that spirituality as a bludgeon need to be thwarted. And those who would foist their sickness on other people's children should be removed from polite society.

Plus, I don't need to believe in the physical existence of any god or demigod to understand the teachings attributed to Christ. Most of them are pretty solid and, try as I might, I just fail to see the context which would suggest Jesus was a warrior.

That misconception is the invention of bigoted, greedy, lustful, power-mad lunatics who are a clear danger to the continued existence of the human race. As a human, that's something which concerns me and, as a human, I have the right to comment on any ideology which which is a danger to civilization.

Fundamental Christian extremism is as dangerous as any other brand of extremism. Forgive me for singling it out but, they are the only extremists trying to banish science, logic and civility from the local schools.

And TeleMan. The God I read about in the Buy-bull was perfectly willing and able to act on His own behalf. The thought that He would condone a half-assed occupation, like Bushco has foisted on Iraq, is laughable.

Obviously these people have never read, or comprehended, the Buy-bull. So? I guess the ignorance of the religious freaks would disqualify them from commenting.

    Check-mate!

Nanlichi likes the way pete thinks.

Nanlichi would probably give pete the time of day but nanlichi has zero..fcking zero...respect for the likes of bitethebullet, Darryl, Palin, or any Christian freak who tries to jam their myth down my throat.

And, it's a cliché, but most of nanlichi's best friends are Christian. Nanlichi is going to spend the next two weeks chasing bull elk with a best buddy who is born-again, but is not threatened by nanlichi's absence of faith.

Writing in the third person is tougher than it looks, nanlichi thinks bitblt is fcked up in more ways than one.

  97. pete Says:

Thanx gang. And I don't even try the third person angle. I'm afraid I might hear the "Voice of God" if I tried. LOL!

  98. dbadass Says:

pete are nighthawks on the move by you? sorry 'bout the off topic thing.

  99. pete Says:

    Hi db.

All the birds are starting their pre-migration stuff but, with lots of cliffs and tall buildings several miles away, I rarely see/hear a nighthawk. I did see a small flock of pelicans in a local swamp though and the wood-ducks are practicing formation-flying.

This is another example that the "old world jounalism of Murrow, Cronkite and Rather is dead and buried. In the case of the Time Magazine reporter Ms Tumulty, she seems to think the finding out the who, what, where, when and how have been replaced with a steno pad, which she records what ABC said in rebuttle to the complaint of Congressman Kucinich. There is a great disconnect with what happened and the points made by ABC. She asks little of no questions to ABC. She takes what is handed to her and repeats it vebatim and then calls that reporting. I call is stenography. Lida Sohbet sohbet sesli chat Gelinlik Modelleri

If you’re referring to Karl Schwarz’ articles, if they are true, how will we ever know unless the news media gets involved without bias? Sesli Sohbet If Cheney was truly involved in 9/11 and protected in some way, then he’s being protected by what may be going on in the Caspian Sea area as well. That pre-9/11 August 10, 2000 article drives the point home to me that Cheney had a vested interest in the oil at the Caspian Sea area (before 9/11). She’s has been saved (baptized in the name of Jesus and filled with the precious gift of the holy ghost, I love her church and pastor). She is correct that Iraq is a task from God. We are there to liberate the Iraqi people, and this is what we our doing. I am so excited, and cannot wait to watch President Bush speak up close tonight. Awesome pick, Senator, awesome pick.
