Last night on Fox News, host Alan Colmes confronted former White House aide Karl Rove for attacking Sen. Joe Biden (D-DE) as a “big blowhard doofus.”
Rove said he thought he was in an “off-the-record setting” but admitted to calling Biden a doofus because “he’s overrated.” However, Rove then backtracked and said he criticized Biden only because of his Iraq plan (the original report of the attack makes no mention of Rove talking about Biden’s Iraq plan). Rove then apologized — not for calling Biden a “doofus” — but for “disagreeing with his plan.” “Hey don’t take his bait, I’ll say it, I think you were right,” protested co-host Sean Hannity.
Rove later said “we’re winning the war” in Iraq, but when Colmes asked, “How many years after ‘Mission Accomplished?’” Rove repeated the canard that the banner was meant for the aircraft carrier, not the war:
ROVE: The “Mission Accomplished” banner, as you know was to compliment the USS Abraham Lincoln for having served the longest sustained tour of duty by any U.S. aircraft carrier.
Watch it:
Last night on a campaign flight, a reporter asked Biden to respond to Rove’s initial attack. “You can call me anything you want,” Biden said. “I learned a long time ago you can call me anything you want.”
“I don’t think we’ll have any trouble resuming the campaign” after Hurricane Gustav, Biden said, referring to the fact that politics were supposed to be suspended during the crisis. “I guess Karl did it already. I guess he didn’t get the memo.”
Doesn’t Karl have a convention to manipulate?
September 2nd, 2008 at 12:52 pmIf anyone would know about blowing hard , it’s Karl Rove ; just ask Jeff Gannon……..
September 2nd, 2008 at 12:54 pmI would sure like to be there — after RoverBoy gets convicted and sent off to jail — to see what happens when he calls his cellmate a “doofus”.
September 2nd, 2008 at 12:58 pmI’m beginning to like Karl Rove. As he descends into irrelevancy he is becoming more of a clown.
Pretty much the same path Bill O’Reilly is on.
September 2nd, 2008 at 1:02 pmAnd Rove is a motherf**king war criminal.
AND I REFUSE TO APOLOGIZE.
September 2nd, 2008 at 1:03 pmAs he descends into irrelevancy he is becoming more of a clown.
It is entertaining. I like to think of it as the “Foxification” (or the “Rushification”) of our lovable little RoverBoy.
September 2nd, 2008 at 1:04 pmyay! TP, you’re back!
well, after my puter was finished with all the refreshes and back-paging commands made trying to figure out the problem…
heh…
oh, and fook rove.
September 2nd, 2008 at 1:06 pmKarl Rove is a doofus and a royal jerk. He thinks he’s so smart, but actually he’s a moron. The only reason this idiot has any fame at all is because of the fact that Gore and Kerry both ran stupid campaigns. He’s no more intelligent than any other so called strategist. If the weak kneed lilly livered Democrats had any balls he’d be in prison right now. Any if he called Joe Biden a doofus and got away with it, it’s Biden’s own fault. Why? Because Sen. Biden is the chairman of the Judiciary Commitee and could have worked with Rep. Conyers to impeach Bush if the didn’t let Rove testify about US Attorney Gate, Spy Gate and a number of other issues.
The weak azzed Demcrats have let this man walk all over Congress for years and he’s still out there shooting off his mouth. If I were advising them, I’d tell them to lock Rove up for contempt of Congress and throw away the key. But when you don’t have any balls, that’s out of the question. I’m a diehard Democrat, but I got balls unlike 99 percent of the idiots who actually run the party. The whole lot of them from Howard Dean, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and vertually every Democrat is Congress don’t have the balls to stand up to anyone except Sen. Obama if he becomes President. The only thing I agree with Rove on is that a party should fight the other side like they are the scum of the earth.
September 2nd, 2008 at 1:06 pmThere he goes, projecting again. Look in a mirror KKKarl. Listen to the words that come out of your mouth for a change.
New definition: Doofus; Karl Rove like.
September 2nd, 2008 at 1:06 pmThis is just a side-show.
If Rove had any influence with anyone (other than the folks that watch FOX news) his comments would be a problem. The MSM may have Rove on the air for “balance” but his ability to move the press is really gone.
Biden should request Rove issue an apology to America for enabling one of the worst Presidents in the history of this country to destroy our Economy/Military/International Standing/etc.
September 2nd, 2008 at 1:11 pmThe stupidity of the Bush administration allows for them to apologize for the banner, then claim the banner wasn’t meant to signify success of the war, even though Bush was in fact at that time talking about the success of the war. Convenient! Plausible deniability sure, but what do they take us for. They’ve orchestrated events time and again, but not that time.
What do they take us for?
September 2nd, 2008 at 1:12 pmWe still haven’t seen the ‘real’ math from KKKarl yet.
Maybe he is almost as smart as he actually thinks he is.
Heh Heh!
September 2nd, 2008 at 1:13 pmI don’t think I’ve ever seen a bigger doofus than MC Rove. I would’ve rather had pictures of me passed out at a party than to be an old white guy rapping.
September 2nd, 2008 at 1:13 pmJust check everywhere for the righteous indignation from the Right (wrong) Wing on the Palin Comedy Show re: “those vicious left wing blogs.”
September 2nd, 2008 at 1:15 pmI suppose it’s “politics” but he and his are organized, and hold no punches. Why do the Dems hold their punches when it’s proven to be a losing strategy?
The sign said Mission Accomplished and the Chip made a speach about combat operations being successful. The Turd is making stuff up again.
September 2nd, 2008 at 1:16 pmARRGH! I lose my train of thought to comment on these new posts by the time technical difficulties are resolved.
No biggie, TP. It happens.
September 2nd, 2008 at 1:17 pmDoes Karly have the meth this time? Ooops, I mean the man math?
September 2nd, 2008 at 1:17 pmIt’s OK, TP, I am currently having technical difficulties myself…Going for more decaf!!
September 2nd, 2008 at 1:18 pmNo apology needed, Rove. Just turn yourself in.

We do not care about their family issues and trials as human beings. We know and appreciate them. The thing that the democrats are going after is the judgement of the old man who yells at the clouds and who made this dreadful unvetted selection. Normally people who have unacceptable baggage are not selected.
Good for Biden for not biting. Making statements like that just makes Rove look like a juvenile throwing a temper tantrum.
I do believe that the Right is terrified at this point. It’s becoming amusing watching them implode.
September 2nd, 2008 at 1:23 pmThe only thing worth reading on this topic is Joe Biden’s response (and of course the comments!). And he’s the one who’s supposed to be the gaffe machine.
GO JOE!
PEACE
September 2nd, 2008 at 1:25 pmI’m going to stick up for KKKarl here. Some people say he isn’t fit to sleep with the pigs but I think he is.
And I think he is a genius. If by genius you mean he’s dumb enough to understand how the stupidest voters in the country think because he’s one of them.
September 2nd, 2008 at 1:26 pmI hope someone slashes his tires and get’s away with it.
September 2nd, 2008 at 1:27 pmCrooks and con men have been taking advantage of Americans for years, rove just has a bigger game but that doesn’t mean he’s not still a con and a crook.
September 2nd, 2008 at 1:32 pmGood thing the Democratic War Room will draw more attention than tht GOOP convention itself. With a robust response and continued protests, the party can pick up on another week to seal the deal on election day.
September 2nd, 2008 at 1:33 pmFirst of all., I didn’t know that Rove could even spell “doofus”. But he is hardly the one who should be saying that anyone is over-rated. He has done nothing to deserve any rating at all and until recently only opeated well under the radar, anyway. How the hell did this “doofus” get on television?
September 2nd, 2008 at 1:33 pm“The bigger they are, the harder they fall.” And since Rove is the biggest a$$hole in the country is fall is going to be really fun to watch.
September 2nd, 2008 at 1:36 pmRove sure is being vicious and hurting the country.

Pink Boas, Pink Lights, Pink Wigs??? Do fundamentalists really approve of such behavior?
September 2nd, 2008 at 1:38 pmI read The Shadow’s post and I wonder if the reason the democrats did nothing when the Bushies were running rough shot over the government proved the hypothesis of the theory of diffusion of responsibility. I don’t think I need to define what this is considering the intelligence level of most of you, I’m just a voice of reason, not the voice of omnipotence. However, how can we blame the criminal act of abuse of power on the bystander and not the criminal? The fact that many democrats sat on their hands when this went on hardly gives the Bush administration a pass.
September 2nd, 2008 at 1:41 pmthe Lone Voice of Reason Says:
I agree. Let’s see how things go when the actual criminals are sent home….or to jail hopefully.
September 2nd, 2008 at 1:47 pmNote to Righteous Rove:
Palin’s failin’ next to Biden.
September 2nd, 2008 at 1:51 pmI agree with you, LVofR. I think you put your finger on the reason that the democratic Congress’s approval rating is so low. First off, you have republican disapproval of anything democratic. Then you have the democrats who have a “hang-over” disapproval of this Congress based upon the prior years of a republican-controlled Congress. And finally you have the democrats who are disaffected with Congressional leadership in their failure to hold GDumbya and Darth Cheney accountable.
I am in this last category because those two cowards would have folded like a couple of cheap suits if Congress had begun impeachment proceedings. The first thing that should happen in the next Congress is the wholesale replacement of the majority democratic leadership.
September 2nd, 2008 at 1:52 pmLet’s see — a “blowhard” is a very boastful and talkative person (from thefreedictionary.com) and a “doofus” is a stupid incompetent person (also from thefreedictionary.com). I couldn’t see any of those characteristics in Joe Biden. Perhaps Karl Rove might like to expand on this further — such as providing examples of Biden being boastful, stupid, or incompetent?
I suspect that Rove is just using it as a random insult — pretty much the way people use “a$$hole”. That’s usually the last refuge of someone who has run out of intelligent things to say.
Fortunately, Biden recognizes that for what it is. And we all can see who has the class in this exchange.
September 2nd, 2008 at 1:53 pmPudgy Humpty Dumpty Karl Rove should be in jail! What is he doing on Faux News? Mission Unaccomplished!
September 2nd, 2008 at 1:56 pmRove Admits Calling Biden A ‘Doofus’ But Refuses To Apologize.
Who cares about an apology from Rove anyway. That would suggest that a remark from Rove is worth paying attention to in the first place.
http://progressiveworldreview.com
September 2nd, 2008 at 1:58 pmAgreed. Biden is much more stoic than anyone from the right.
September 2nd, 2008 at 1:58 pmKnowing in the last few weeks, KKK-Karl has been caught participating in the Veep vetting, AND with plans to launch an independent attack group (523), AND contact with the McCain campaing multiple times per week:
Knowing this, how in the world is he still being taken as an independent commentator ?
September 2nd, 2008 at 2:01 pmapologize? I think we should send Joe a “Karl Rove Says I’m a DOOFUS” t-shirt. I’d think he could wear it with pride!
September 2nd, 2008 at 2:08 pmYou will be waiting for the cows to come home if you think that Tubby McTreason Rove will apologize for his comments about Biden and for all of his crimes that he has committed currently and in the future.
September 2nd, 2008 at 2:14 pmLVoR you are right to blame Bush and his people for the crimes they committed while in office. But that still doesn’t excuse the weak Democrats for doing nothing to either stop it for make sure it doesn’t happen again. They forgot that there are three co-equal branches of power. The Supreme Court never misses an opportunity to use it’s power and Bush abused his, while the Democrats in Congess were trembling at the thought of holding him accountable. I contacted numerous members of Congress including the leadership in an attempt to get them to impeach Bush.
I was told by most of them, that they weren’t my member of Congress and I shouldn’t call them about any issue. They use that excuse to avoid using the very power that the US Constituion gives them. As for their claim that I should only contact my State’s members of Congress, it is a bogus excuse and dereliction of duty as far as I’m concerned. When I informed them that as a member of Congress at the Federal level their actions affect me regardless of what State I’m from, they get nasty and hang up the phone. The founding fathers are turning over in their graves because their grand experiment has failed not only them, but all of us.
My only real point was that both parties are corrupt, but the Democrats are just plain weak. They talk a mean game, but have no guts at all. There isn’t an ounce of guts in the enitre Democratic caucus. Why? Because they have been too afraid of do anything since Rove is considered as some type of political genius by the media. He’s not that good at political strategy, the Democrats are just stupid and afraid of their own shadow. Look at how much money Hillary Clinton spent on a losing campaign. She paid that idiot Mark Penn over 12 million dollars to lose the race for her.
September 2nd, 2008 at 2:43 pmDoes anyone actually care what he says, much less if he apologizes?
September 2nd, 2008 at 3:06 pmWell, hell, I’d gladly call Karl Rove a fat, traitorous pig to his pudgy face – and I most certainly wouldn’t apologize.
September 2nd, 2008 at 3:31 pmIt is only in the shadows that a person such as Karl Rove can
September 2nd, 2008 at 4:13 pmwork his “magic”. Once exposed to the light of reasonable
thought he is fully exposed as a rather unintelligent
and fitfully pedantic creature. It becomes more apparent, at
each of his appearances, that his measure will be less
favorable the more he opines.
29 Xisithrus – any chance the politico saying “All people have bad times” can make a commercial ?
September 2nd, 2008 at 4:20 pmSticks and Stones. Get over it biden.
September 2nd, 2008 at 7:30 pmIf Congress had any moral sense it would jail Rove. The papers have been drown and Congress refuses to act. He’s in contempt, Dagnammit and he should be arrested. (Instead of insulting well respected and experiences members of Congress who were elected.By the way, WHO ELECTED ROVE?
