Murphy Supports Palin’s Policy Stances In Public, Cries ‘It’s Not Going To Work’ In Private

Yesterday, during Politico’s breakfast panel at the Republican National Convention on “Women and the Republican Party,” Matthew Yglesias asked why the panelists were ignoring substantive discussion of Gov. Sarah Palin’s (R-AK) record. Yglesias noted that Palin lied about her support for the Bridge to Nowhere and led Sen. Ted Stevens’s (R-AK) 527.

Conservative strategist Mike Murphy argued that Palin’s record was nothing to be concerned about. He dismissed Palin’s record of supporting large earmark spending, said he didn’t “buy” that Palin was closely linked to the indicted Stevens and joked that her association with the fringe Alaska Independence Party makes him “like her more.” Watch it:

Murphy, however, was apparently lying. Today, MSNBC inadvertently broadcast Murphy sharing his honest opinion of Palin’s record with the Wall Street Journal’s Peggy Noonan and MSNBC’s Chuck Todd. Murphy said, “I totally agree” that Palin was selected without consideration of her record and that “it’s not going to work”:

MURPHY: It’s not gonna work. And –

TODD: Yeah, I mean is she really the most qualified woman they could have turned to?

NOONAN: The most qualified? No! I think they went for this — excuse me– political bullshit about narratives – [...]

MURPHY: I totally agree.

Hey Ryan, how about a HT to spencers mom who just put this up on the previous post?

  2. Count Istvan Says:

You know as A Boston Celtics fan I must ask the question I asked during game 6 of the NBA finals...

It can't really end this easily could it?

  3. stateofthedivision Says:

I saw this on HuffPo earlier and it's a big deal. Mike Murphy is on MSNBC as I write.

How quickly will Murphy and Noonan crater, or be shunned?

  4. Rick O. Says:

Orwell was right about everything...The IOKIYAR is this group's "Some are more equal than other."

  5. stewarjt Says:

Why don't they say this stuff on air? Would it take guts, integrity, what?

  6. Badmoodman Says:

Right, and Noonan says "It's over." Then Noonan writes an op-ed for the WSJ that is completely opposite. What crap. Are these people all insane?

  7. stewarjt Says:

    It's over!!!

    - Peggy Noonan, reliable right winger and former Reagan speach writer.

  8. Little Freep Goofballs Says:

This clearly shows that so much of the GOP's convention rah-rah for their excruciatingly awful ticket is just whistling past the graveyard.

  9. leonine Says:

Didn't Noonan write a pro-Palin column in the WSJ?

  10. Wayne A. Schneider Says:

If you listen closely, I think Murphy dropped the f-bomb at around 51 seconds into the video.

Will MSNBC and Mike Murphy have to pay huge fines for that? Or will only MSNBC have to pay a fine and Murphy get let off the hook becuase he's a Republican?

  11. Zooey Says:

    Wayne,

As long as he doesn't show us his boobs, I think he's ok. :P

  12. Zooey Says:

Usually I can respect a woman who uses the word "bullshit," but not this one.

    Too little, too late.

    Yes leonine. She did.

  14. pete Says:

I think it falls under the "accidental broadcast of anything that's not a breast" clause, Wayne. They may swear, obfuscate, threaten, abuse and lie out of both sides of their mouths. But if they show a boob? Heads will roll!

  15. pete Says:

Great minds think alike Zooey. And so do ours!

  16. drago Says:

    Republicons are NOTHING BUT FRAUDS!

They're like cockroaches when you shine a light on them. Disgusting vermin that they are.

Badmoodman Says: "Are these people all insane?"

    Bad,

Probably. But they also write shit for a living. If nobody reads their shit they don't make shit and they are then shit out of luck so they keep on shoveling the shit so they can get paid and don't have to go out and get a job shoveling real shit.

    Wayne,

As long as he doesn’t show us his boobs, I think he’s ok. :P

Doesn't Murphy technically "show a boob" every time he appears on camera?

  19. JMOHR Says:

Conclusive evidence of the Orwellian world in which we live. The right wing pundits out and out lies to the public to create false political issues for a candidate that they know is not up to the job of vice president. Why would they do this?

Noonan talks about Pailin being a transformative candidate? When she believes that Pailin was not more than a gimmick? They cannot believe that McCain made such a mistake because he was above such cynicism?

What does that make these people?

  20. livelongandprosper Says:

In reality, it wouldn't matter who McCain choose for his running mate. These douchbags would love whoever it was in public. You know, party loyalty above all else. In choosing Palin, McCain has just made it a little harder for them.

  21. IBTunion4obama Says:

Not to change the subject...But does anyone know the attendance numbers and/or viewing numbers at the Repub convention last night?

No but a good guess would be 20% of America.

  23. LibertyLover Says:

Does it bother these guys to lie so boldly? My guess is no.

  24. Chocolate Jesus Says:

Make no mistake folks, these guys are scumbags and manipulators of the highest order. that they've managed to maintain the degree of control they have up to this point, even as extreme, outrageous, and blatant thier behaviour has been, speaks volumes about how they are able to brainwash people...

they have alot of cash to buy lipstick for thier pig, i personally encourage EVERYONE to redouble their efforts to make sure Captain Mellannoma and this freakishly creepy, Biblehumping Barbiedoll dont make it into office. As bad as it looks for them now, they have Diebold and 90 percent of the media on their side, so DONT get complacent, anyone...

  25. Crusty Old Bastard Says:

IBTunion4obama Says: "...does anyone know the attendance numbers and/or viewing numbers at the Repub convention last night?"

Yes they do! It will also be a cold day in hell when they publicize same!

  26. IBTunion4obama Says:

    livelongandprosper Says:

No but a good guess would be 20% of America.

I heard that Ron Paul had more at his own convention. I just wanted to get my facts straight, I can't find anything about the official attendance numbers on google, hahaha.

  27. Crusty Old Bastard Says:

    Re: #19

I couldn't wait for the trolls.

    No shit?

  28. barfly Says:

So Murphy gets caught in a lie, on tape. The network he now works for really made a stellar decision hiring him.

I wonder if they'll still act like nothing happened, when he gets caught in the next one. And knowing Murphy, there will be a next one.

  29. DidHeJustSayThat Says:

Proof you can't believe what these blowhards say on-air.

It's good to no they really aren't all that delusional!

  30. Bilbo Hussein Baggins Says:

    stewarjt Says:
Why don’t they say this stuff on air? Would it take guts, integrity, what?

If they told the truth, on air, their gravy train would be over. These people care more about their salaries and other perks than they do about the truth. Typical Republicans.

  31. pete Says:

"Lay off the kid" kinda sticks out too. I agree that Bristol has enough worries right now, without the press trashing her, and I wish her nothing but health and happiness.

However. I have some questions for her Mom.

    1. Ms. Palin. Do you think your methods, whatever they may be, to educate your daughter about human sexuality were successful?

    2. Ms. Palin. Do you propose your methods of teaching human sexuality to your own children, successful or not, for every child in America?

I think that those are perfectly valid questions and I would love to see her reaction. I say "reaction" because I don't believe she would even try to answer either one.

  32. leonine Says:

Who knew Peggy Noonan was a member of the "angry right"?

  33. gallery Says:

I've been telling everybody who will listen that they're all playing along like good little right wing soldiers.
But REALLY...... who in their right mind actually thinks that this was anything other than a desperate attempt to react to Obama and his stunning command of the democratic convention.
The fact that all these speeches are being re-written to suit the speakers..... well, that says it all.
    Lipstick on a pig.

  34. pete Says:

I must disagree, a bit, gallery. I really don't think that the GOP chose her to react to Obama's success. I think it's a desperate attempt to keep the hardcore "Evangelicons", who have reservations about McSpin, in the fold.

The Radical Right is just trying to keep the ignorant sheeple all in a flock. They are still a dangerous group but, I don't think they have a prayer of outnumbering the "Pissed-off Moderate Majority". The complacency that allowed Bushco to happen has been shattered.

  35. Bilbo Hussein Baggins Says:

Ok, Sarah Palins children are off-limits to the press...except when she wants to use them as props for photos. Apparently she has Brisols baby daddy there to take proud papa pictures with Bristol and the rest of the family. This brings up an interesting conundrum. She thinks that teenage sex is wrong and teens getting pregnant as wrong. And yet she is bringing out on stage with her, her pregnant teenage daughter and the young punk who knocked her up. Doesn't that seem like they are celebrating what Bristol and Levi did?

Now think of this. Obama has a pregnant 16 year old daughter who has a tough talking black boyfriend. Then Obama brings them all out on stage with him. What do you think the right would say about that?

  36. Doc Rock Says:

Which side of his mouth was he speaking out of at any given time?

  37. davemartin7777 Says:

McSame is going split the Reich-wing like no liberal could ever dream.

The lights have been flipped on Palin and all the other Reich-wing cockroaches.

    Thanks John!

  38. pete Says:

What I find fascinating is that the Reichwhiners will say that McSpin and Palin's "family values" are so superior that they should be adopted by our entire country. And they'll say it with straight faces, as long as they know the tape is running.

And you just may be right, davemartin. It sure looks like the GOP is imploding but, I'm not going to celebrate too soon. Though I will enjoy watching the smarmy creeps in the "librul media" get reduced to spluttering idiocy, one by one.

  39. pete Says:

Here's a bit more of the public record on Ms. Palin.

Stein says that as mayor, Palin continued to inject religious beliefs into her policy at times. "She asked the library how she could go about banning books," he says, because some voters thought they had inappropriate language in them. "The librarian was aghast." That woman, Mary Ellen Baker, couldn't be reached for comment, but news reports from the time show that Palin had threatened to fire Baker for not giving "full support" to the mayor.

dems NEED to start running commericals with rape victims and have them ask "why do john mccain and palin want to force us to keep our rapists babies"?

    > What do you think the right would say about that?

They'd start talking about him as "First Thug"...which is why we need to slightly more politely point out they've brough "First Whigger Son" up on stage as a cheap photo-op?

  42. Max-1 Says:

  43. TrevorAlan Says:

Once again, the GOP is the Party of Lincoln, the party that held the United States of America together during the Civil War. A legacy that means even in the worst times Dems have to hold some respect for the GOP.

And this guy would like the VP candidate BETTER if she belonged to an organization that wants to tear the union apart? Next is he going to go pee on the graves of Union soldiers at Arlington?
    What the Hell?
If she says she never supported the group, or says she realized her support was a mistake, even if a lie, that's one thing. But if she still supports a secessionist organization, that's a real problem running for an office charged with holding the union together.

  44. youtube Says:

This is an extremely important issue that Obama’s campaign and the Democrats must deal with during this campaign.sohbet The Republicans continue to degenerate to outright falsehoods. What are we to do when thecet press will not intervene to set the record straight?Bedava mp3 indir How do we cope with maintaining an offense versus wasting time and messaging on spurious arguments?
