During his RNC speech tonight, Mike Huckabee declared that Sarah Palin “got more votes running for Mayor of Wasilla than Joe Biden got running for President of the United States.” After his speech, MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann pointed out that this was a lie, since Biden received more than 30,000 votes in the primaries, while Palin received 616 votes — to her opponent’s 413 — in her 1998 bid:
OLBERMANN: Biden got 15,000 votes in Florida, 18,000 votes in California, in the primaries there — more than could have been gotten in two elections for the mayor of Wasilla, Alaska for Sarah Palin.
Watch it:
Olbermann also corrected Huckabee’s claim that Abraham Lincoln was the founder of the Republican Party. “It was actually founded in 1854 by disaffected members of the Whig party,” Olbermann said, adding, “Mr. Lincoln joined later on and ran for office in 1860.”
Lincoln wouldn’t recognize this party today…
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:38 pmbut facts don’t matter to Republicans…they are anathema
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:39 pm. . . .neither would Ronald Reagan.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:39 pmSee, this is why Huckabee is more comedian than politician. Then again, the chant of “drill, baby drill” shows the GOP delegates live in the same bubble that their heroes live in.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:41 pmApparently being a bible-thumping ordained Southern Baptist minister doesn’t require truthfulness.

September 3rd, 2008 at 10:51 pmAndrew Sullivan Is A Fraud
Whatever you think of Olbermann, and I like him, he does try to get the facts straight. When he get it wrong, he says so and corrects his statement.
When have you seen that happen from O’lierlly, or Sean Insanity? Wrong? Their never wrong.
“A conservative believes nothing should be done for the first time.” – Thomas Fuller
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:52 pmSomebody should “fact check” Falin. If I am not mistaken she claimed Harry Truman was a Republican. I don’t know of any other haberdasher from Missouri that was a VP. Maybe she really doesn’t want to compare herself to Harry. He may come back from the grave to show her where the buck really stops.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:54 pmAnd Harry might bring MacArthur with him to put the POW in his rightful place.
September 3rd, 2008 at 10:59 pmI’ve been disappointed in MSNBC’s coverage of both conventions, but I’m glad that Keith finally spoke up about one of the Republiskunks’ lies. They’re getting away with so much shite!
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:00 pmHow the fcuk is this airhead comparing her non-existent experience to Obama’s? Is she on the top of the ticket now? Did McDepends crap in his pants and call the whole thing off? Please, oh please, if it were only so. It would have been a cakewalk with Flippy anyway – but with Palin…Rubbing my hands in glee. Red meat politics? Bring it on!
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:02 pmBoy, is Sarah Plain and Dumb in trouble when Biden is opposite from her in an auditorium. This piece of Alaskan lumber definitely isn’t ready to come out of McCain’s attic…whichever one she’s in.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:08 pmWatching Palin speech now. Just fluff and stuff. Typical republican rhetoric. Nothing new. Drill, drill, drill and clean coal (oxymoron?), more nuclear power plants. That equates to hundreds and hundreds of billions of dollars to be dumped into these boondoggles (with the eventual “cough” cost overruns) when we won’t see any return on these ventures for years, maybe decades, if at all. We still don’t know how to store nuclear waste with complete safety. And clean coal, I laugh every time I hear that one. I don’t doubt our ability to actually do it or at least come close to it, but at what cost. It won’t be cheap. Wind, solar, hydro-electric power generation. Abundant, clean, unlimited power for generations to come. IMHO of course.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:08 pmWell, the Rebublicans seldom let the facts get in the way of a snazzy sound bite.
And, if you say something enough times, it eventually becomes true! Right?!? Like WMDs…
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:19 pmAs an aside, they should have scheduled Ghouliani an hour or two later. He could have given Leno and Letterman a few pointers. And he wasn’t even being funny.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:31 pmI watched C-span as long as I could hold my dinner down. I used to think the whole world was Repukelican except C-Span and me but now I have my doubts about Cee. (Damn, I had to work for that one.) They continuously showed the teenage sweet pure young daughter Born Again Christian Republican Model of Virginity (so I won’t be awaiting TP’s moderation) and her felon (In any State without a Mother for a Governor) boyfriend, and the rest of the family, with Cindy McCain holding the baby. They showed the signs with “Hockey Moms 4 You.” All of those actions, if done by a black Democratic family would have incurred the immediate wrath of the God of the “Religious Right.” Does anyone any longer wonder why all the hypocrites in the world can be found in the churches attended by the “Religious Right?”
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:37 pmRepublicans have to make stuff up…the facts and reality are never in their favor.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:41 pmucsbclassics53 Says:
Lincoln wouldn’t recognize this party today…
Neither would Eisenhower, who was arguably the last good president, with the exception of the CIA overthrow of Iran in 1953.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:43 pmwhy are these repug toads acting like there’re voting against Sen. Obama/Sen. Biden?
Don’t people know repugs are voting within their own sorry party?
I guess repugs don’t know this tidbit. GMAFB!
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:48 pmI think I had the wrong channel on. I must have been watching the Libertarian convention or something. All these people were talking about small government, and less government intrusion in our lives, so it couldn’t possibly have been the Republican Convention.
The party that brought us the biggest government ever is the “small government” party? The party that took a budget surplus and turned it into a record deficit is going to control spending? The party that wants endless war is the fiscally responsible party? The candidate whose budget is going to add $1.4 TRILLION more to the National Debt than Obama’s budget is the “small government” candidate?
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:50 pmWhat does it say about a town with a population of about 7,000 when only 1,029 bother to vote for mayor? Is the majority of citizens unwed teenage mothers or what?
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:53 pmBrain From Planet Arous Says: “ucsbclassics53 Says: ‘Lincoln wouldn’t recognize this party today…’ Neither would Eisenhower, who was arguably the last good president…”
If I may be so bold as to suggest: “…who was arguably the last good Republican president…”
I understand that you younger folks may think a “good Republican” is an oxymoron but it has been only about 50 years that all Republicans are just morons.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:53 pmsidney, mr toughguy?
And you act like a typical (well, play a sidney role-ish) sidney?
Priceless.
Who old white and racist.
Please ask me to name incidents, and don’t stop me. ok?
A whole lotta small folks got worse and mcchimpy doesn’t say shit. Was the war over when he peeped out?
I heard of common people taking worst sh it.
STFU mcchimpy.
Pass, funny as hell.
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:56 pmYegads, Huckster is one dumb hick. The lemmings on the floor were lapping all that stupid right up.
Watch the troll brigade parrot all the factual errors tomorrow.
By the way
Where’s Daryll?
Why isn’t Huckabee president-elect or vice president-elect Daryll?
Hahahaha
September 3rd, 2008 at 11:57 pmsectionop92 Says: “And Harry might bring MacArthur with him to put the POW in his rightful place.”
I will admit that my memory of Harry and MacArthur (It is too late to look to my WEB Griffin collection to find the favorite nickname of McA, but it sure as hell wasn’t near what McALLBAD has accumulated) is dim but my recollection of the two heroes/adversaries is such that I am glad I only have to salute either and say “Yes, Sir”!
And to you as well, “Yes Sir.”
September 4th, 2008 at 12:06 amIt is amazing how all these “Christians” lie. Sarah was a litany of lies tonight.
September 4th, 2008 at 12:16 amHuckabee asked for permission from the GOP party to make a speech without Chuck Norris standing behind him.
September 4th, 2008 at 12:17 amMcCain asked for the same to speak without Senators Lieberman and Graham standing also behind him.
The bottom line is, ‘Thank you Keith Olbermann for letting the truth shine thru’. So they kept you in NY, that won’t keep the truth from coming thru. Nice work.
September 4th, 2008 at 12:24 amHuckabee also made the statement that Americans don’t want big government.
I don’t think people really care about the size of the government, only that it is an EFFECTIVE government.
And maybe just a smidge honest and open. OK more than a smidge.
September 4th, 2008 at 12:53 amAS for the chant of Drill, baby, drill. That 5 year old downs baby isn’t old enough to walk yet, and they are already wanting the baby to go to work for the oil company? Man, talk about an ownership society!
;)
September 4th, 2008 at 12:57 amRepubs should be careful mentioning Mr. Lincoln. their base is the Confederacy and they are still mad at Lincoln today.
September 4th, 2008 at 1:07 amWayne Says: “…By the way Where’s Daryll?”
Daryll/RaptureReady claimed, in an earlier thread, he was getting ready to attend the convention. Something about “McCain/Palin/Jesus ‘08″. If we are really fortunate Daryll has be vaporized/sorry, Raptured…or he’ll just show up tomorrow spouting how utterly wonderful the god-appointed-next president Huckabee was so enrapturing.
September 4th, 2008 at 1:17 amCaribou Barbie is just another talking head for the WARMONGERS that they are.She and her re-pukes want our soldiers to keep dying for their cause,OIL and GREED.We want our soldiers home with their families and friends. These guys have way to much money invested in this war so they will drum up and cheerlead this “messopatamia” for all it`s worth.Nice family values Mrs.Palin, I have given you the name of my first FEMALE Warmonger!!!!!!!!!!
September 4th, 2008 at 1:29 amLying is an inherent trait, indeed, necessary trait, of Republicans.
September 4th, 2008 at 2:54 amI kid you not.
dropped-in-palin
Can you believe it?
September 4th, 2008 at 3:31 amHey LL. :)
September 4th, 2008 at 3:36 amYea, and Alaska has more oil than Saudi Arabia but the Democrats won’t let America have it ;)
September 4th, 2008 at 6:33 amCorrection: The Republicans won’t let America have it, they want to let the oil companies sell it on the GLOBAL market.
Nice try, but it’s a lie.
September 4th, 2008 at 8:48 amWhen will Dems and Dem-leaning pundits like Olberman realize facts have no meaning for Repubs. They need to fight fire with fire.
September 4th, 2008 at 9:28 amIt is just obvious we have to have fact checkers on everything damn thing they say. The harm is when it is said people go away quoting the false facts and it becomes “true”
September 4th, 2008 at 10:17 amFYI Venezuela has the most in oil reserves and then Canada is next. It’s not the “sweet” oil and costs more to refine, but oil is oil. Due to the price of a barrel, these fun facts can be useful. Perhaps this is why W hates Chavez and calls him a dictator. Hugo Chavez was a freely elected president of Venezuela; something W could not pull off here in the US.
September 4th, 2008 at 10:19 amThis is an extremely important issue that Obama’s campaign and the Democrats must deal with during this campaign.sohbet The Republicans continue to degenerate to outright falsehoods. What are we to do when the press will not intervene to set the record straight?Bedava mp3 indir How do we cope with maintaining an offense versus wasting time and messaging on spurious arguments?
