What’s funny is that conservatives are all about smaller government and less government intervention, but not when it comes to morals. Conservatives want to regulate abortions, stem-cell and gay-marriage research all because of some communities in Texas. The federal government should have nothing to do with these decisions. They should be left up to the local state governments.

BTW. Why does CBS continue to employ Ms. Couric? She plagiarizes her personal blog entries and manipulates the tapes of interviews so she doesn’t sound like she’s being mean or imply her moronic guests are morons.

Well done Katie Couric!
She’s a useless anchor because she can’t juggle with substantive subjects on the fly, but in one-on-one interviews where she is able to prepare she’s not at all bad.

That said here’s a general oddity about this story that applies to the media in general and to the politicians and their surrogates who pontificate at length, make mighty decisions and expect to be taken seriously by the public:

Couric said that “we contacted the McCain campaign to clarify Cindy McCain’s position on abortion.

Umm…Cindy was right there! If Catie didn’t understand her position on abortion (and clearly she noticed some logical discrepancies) why not FOLLOW UP and ask for a clarification from HER,RIGHT THEN–instead of following-up with a bunch of staffers later who won’t provide anything other than political verbal diarrhea?

Really! If I declare I don’t like abortion (which I don’t) but vote for the Party which keeps abortion legal (which I do) not just for medical issues or in cases of incest or rape but as a rational choice that people should be able to make without suffering any kind of societal censure then I’d say further explanation would be called-for—BUT FROM ME and not from a bunch of secretaries, PA’s and interns.

Obviously, Cindy McCain doesn’t even know what Roe v. Wade is.

What I’m sure she does understand is that she owns a private jet which can wisk her (or Meghan) away to Switzerland, or Paris, or Toronto at a moments notice, and has enough money to afford the best medical care money can buy.

So who could blame her for being so oblivious about Roe v. Wade? It won’t affect her one way or the other.

Cindy McCain should not be ridiculed for her opinion on Roe v. Wade. Good on her for understanding that making abortion illegal is not a good idea despite her “pro-life” stance. If only more conservatives were as clever as her on this issue!

I hope people don’t fall for this counter messaging. Since the first lady has no say in the matter her political views are largely immaterial. Hillary Clinton’s claims of “experience” notwithstanding, the first lady is an entirely ceremonial “office”. Voting for McCain because his wife agrees with you politically is just daft.
