McCain Campaign Plans To Keep Palin Away From The Press»

Yesterday, McCain adviser Nicolle Wallace dismissed the fact that Gov. Sarah Palin has yet to take any questions from the press. “So what?” she scoffed. Today on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, campaign strategist Rick Davis suggested Palin might never sit down for an interview if, he said, it’s “in our best interest” to keep her away from the media:

SCARBOROUGH: Yesterday Nicolle Wallace suggested that she was sitting right there and told Jay Carney of Time magazine ‘Sarah Palin doesn’t have to talk to you, she doesn’t’ have to talk to the press.’ … Can we expect Sarah Palin on Meet the Press and other one on one interviews throughout the course of this campaign?

DAVIS: We’re going to do whatever we think is the best to win. We have 60 days left and if we think it’s a good idea to go out there and do those shows, we’ll do them.

SCARBOROUGH: Can you avoid it? Meet the Press?

DAVIS: We can afford anything we want to do. … We’re going to do what we think is in our best interest. If that means access to the press, we’ll give it to you.

Watch it:

The McCain campaign reportedly told the Atlantic’s Marc Ambinder not to expect any one-on-one interviews with Palin any time soon. Despite McCain’s pledge of transparency — even proposing a regular President’s question time with Congress modeled after the British version — he has been shutting off press access for months. Yesterday, a Time reporter explained that McCain bizarrely refused to answer his questions, “like he’d been body-snatched.”

Davis insisted that “there are no strings attached” to media access to McCain. Yet just this week, McCain abruptly canceled an interview with Larry King as punishment for a tough CNN interview with one of his spokesmen. What’s more, top McCain aide Mark Salter said that “only the good reporters” would get the best seats in the new campaign plane. “You have to earn it,” he said.

Davis told MSNBC that Sen. Joe Biden (D-DE) “didn’t do a single interview until a week after his nomination,” but the assertion is false. Biden and Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) sat for an interview with 60 Minutes “just moments after” Obama left the stage at the Democratic convention.

Digg It!

Transcript:

SCARBOROUGH: Let me ask you about Sarah Palin and the media. Yesterday Nicholle Wallace suggested that — she was sitting right there and told Jay Carney of Time magazine ‘Sarah Palin doesn’t have to talk to you, she doesn’t’ have to talk to the press.’ You got Joe Biden coming up on Meet The Press this Sunday, can we expect Sarah Palin on Meet the Press and other one-on-one interviews throughout the course of this campaign?

DAVIS: We’re going to do whatever we think is the best to win. We have 60 days left and if we think it’s a good idea to go out there and do those shows, we’ll do them.

SCARBOROUGH: Can you avoid it? Meet the Press?

DAVIS: We can afford anything we want to do.

CHUCK TODD: Rick, this weekend, Obama’s on a Sunday show, McCain’s on a Sunday show, Biden’s on a Sunday show, is that an issue? The fact that three of the four –

DAVIS: Let me ask you this, what Sunday show did Joe Biden do right after he was nominated?

TODD: You’re right. I’m saying-

DAVIS: What are you saying? What are you saying, Chuck?

TODD: You sounded like you were saying, sounded like you weren’t definitely committing to the fact that she might feel the need to do all these one on one interviews.

DAVIS: I never commit to anything in the future. I mean, look, our strategy is in our hands, not the media’s. We’re going to do what’s in our best interest to try to win this election. If we think going on these TV shows are in our best interest, we’ll do em, if we don’t, we won’t.

MIKA BRZEZINSKI: Is it possible- Well, what are you saying? If you don’t put her out there and have her answer real questions, off the cuff–

DAVIS: I never said I wouldn’t put her out there.

BRZEZINSKI: I never said I wouldn’t put her out there.

[…]

SCARBOROUGH: It does look like you’re saying, again, if it suites our purposes, we’ll talk to the press, if it doesn’t, we don’t have to.

DAVIS: We give a lot of access to the press. We give a lot more access to the press than the Barack Obama campaign does. We’re going to do what we think is in our best interest. If that means access to the press, we’ll give it to you.

BRZEZINSKI: If it means that access could hurt the campaign, you will protect her? Because that’s what it may, some might think–

DAVIS: Look, you guys get to report anything you want to report about this election. There are no strings attached to our coverage. We don’t sit there and say to you guys, hey look, if you don’t report nicely, we’re not going to see you. You report what you report, we’re going to do what we’re going to do. If you want to hammer us, hammer us. But you know what, you do that anyways. So knock yourselves out.

BRZEZINSKI: How can you not put her out there for a network interview? People want to hear from her.

DAVIS: We never said we were not going to – lets be realistic here. How many network interviews did Joe Biden do in the first 7 days of his Vice Presidency?

BRZEZINKSI: I think Joe Biden would do as many network interviews as–

DAVIS: But he didn’t do them, that’s the point. Don’t recreate a new strategy here. The reality is these guys are branded to the system. These guys have just come off the trail. We didn’t say, oh where’s Joe Biden, why isn’t he doing interviews? I mean, c’mon. Give em a break, let’s have fair treatment for these candidates. Joe Biden’s didn’t do a single interview until a week after his nomination.

They can’t afford to have Palin interviewed by anyone other than Fox. Hopefully there will be an outcry from the people. Why didn’t McCain just say he wasn’t going to have a VP?

    _________

Well, shi’ite… I’m waiting for Palin to announce she isn’t going to have a President.

  3. stateofthedivision Says:

For her to meet the press, you’d have to remove the Palin leech from Obama. That’s her purpose.

Since when does a VP pick need to be protected from the press? When it’s a narrative bubble, capable of bursting.

  4. The Republic of Stupidity Says:

From the sounds of it, the GOOP is desperately trying to edumacate Ms Palin before they trot her out for the public… kinda like “My fair Lady”, huh?

LOL You may have it there. The Neocons would love that - an new puppet … and it’s a woman.

  6. WaltB Says:

I love it. This neophyte politician is put up by the Republicans to be the backup to a man in his seventies and they don’t want the media to talk to her. I’ll bet the campaign strategists are thinking that with only a 60 day sprint to the elections they’ll be able to get away with it. If the Obama folks don’t jump on this ‘hide the goose’ trick, I’ll be even more amazed.

  7. misshusseinmolly Says:

OK, they plan to keep Palin under wraps except to trot her out for a carefully scripted speech once in awhile, or have her interviewed under carefully controlled conditions (Fox News).

How are they going to handle having her debate Biden? I know she is being given crash courses in foreign policy and other matters she knows nothing about. And no doubt she will be subjected to hours of debate prep. But how will the GOP rig the debate so Palin is only asked questions she has studied the answers for?

  8. McWars Says:

Awww, wittle GOP prototype Sawah wrapped so warmly in her blankie away from the press. The McCain campaign needs to nurse the wittle baby and send her to preschool before Oct. 2nd.

  9. Guido the Loving OBGYN Says:

She has sat down with the people who really matter:

    AIPAC

  10. conniptionfit Says:

One interaction with the press Palin can’t avoid: the VP Debates! Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy! It’s going to be so fun to watch Joe genteely take her apart. So, Ms Governor, you were FOR the Bridge to nowhere before you were AGAINST it? And Ms. Fiscal Conservative Mayor, you took the Mayor job with a balanced budget, but by the time you’d finished ol’ Wasilla was $22 MILLION in the hole? Now how many dollars is that per taxpayer in a town of 7,000 souls?

  11. The Republic of Stupidity Says:

DAVIS: We’re going to do whatever we think is the best to win…
    ___________

Well, that pretty much sums it all up in a nutshell, huh?

No real platform, no true leadership, no solutions to the country’s problems…

Just winning, PERIOD… brought to you by the GOOP!

  12. Bob Says:

I could swear I heard McCain say something about transparency last night. Wouldn’t meeting with the press be a good place to start? Although, it was an individual interview when she said that she didn’t know what the VP does on a daily basis. Talk about getting off-message, they can’t have that happen often.

  13. IgnoranceIsNotBliss Says:

Yeah, cuz nothing says “we screwed up” better than hiding from the press. LMAO.

  14. McWars Says:

I guess they plan on toppling Biden’s dish-out-the-facts approach with reinforced talking points and emotion (Sarah’s feisty personality).

    The Democratic War Room continues…

  15. Badmoodman Says:

Thomas Eagleton lasted 18 days. What’s the over/under on Palin?

If the press can’t get to her to ask questions we’ll have to rely on tabloids to “vet” her. Or wait until the VP debate.

  16. bonzo 1958 Says:

mccain ALREADy sounds like you know who.

  17. spencers mom Says:

If McCain is too sensitive, touchy, scared, angry, sleepy (take your pick) to take on Larry King after a perceived slight from CNN, how can he take on al Qaeda, Iran, Russia, Venezuela, etc.?

If elected, would he just blow off crucial meetings, peace talks, international summits because someone said he had a bad comb-over?

    PEACE

  18. po Says:

There’s a simple solution to this - if McSame and Palin won’t give interviews, don’t print their BS talking points and don’t allow any “surrogates” on shows to fill in for those that can’t handle the heat.

  19. alphainfinityomega Says:

I don’t know why Palin would avoid Joe & Mika, they’re both in the tank for her.
Has any one else noticed how Mika gazes at and leans into good ole Joe? I think he’s pounding Mika on a regular basis.

Great sneak previews of what it would be like with a mcsame administration:

    –limit contact with the press

–when the truth is inconvenient, lie

s much as I appreciate the opportunity to catch those guys in a bold-faced lie, this tack misses the issue, in that it allows them to equate Sarah Palin with Joe Biden.

THey are two completely different situations. Joe Biden has been a US Senator for 35 years. He has run for president twice. He’s well known for his enthusiasm for face time with teh media. He’s a known entity.

Sarah Palin has been a national figure for seven days. Her public appearances have consisted of two presentations of the same address, and a well-rehearsed scripted acceptance speech. Her resumé for a Vice-Presidential candidate is paper-thin, and there are serious questions being raised about her record and her ethical conduct in the positions she’s held.

If the Palin-McCain campaign thinks it’s in their interest to shield her from the press, and not answer those questions… man. There must be something seriously wrong with the candidacy.

    my letter to the editors:

In Sarah Palin we have a virtually unknown quantify vying to be a 72-year-old heartbeat away from the US Presidency. And apparently the plan is for her to have no press availabilities with any unbiased media. So, in 60 days we will be expected to make a terribly important decision based solely on pre-scripted one-sided propaganda. Isn’t that kind of how we got into Iraq?

  27. Bob Says:

They wouldn’t want her confusing religious sects in a country we’re occupying or revealing a gross ignorance of geography in a region of the world constantly at war. That might turn the ticket into a joke.

Judging from the way McCain was eyeballing Palin (funny, take the L out and you get pain), I think he wants to her her under the sheets rather than under wraps.

  35. aquarius2 Says:

I just watched Sarah Palin on CNN giving her first stump speech. It is painfully obvious why they are keeping her away from the press. She read EVERY word from notes, stumbled when she lost her place and her timing for delivering the punch lines was off, way off. That she is totally inexperienced came across loud and clear. The residents of Cederburg WI seemed to love her but they are the base. I don’t think moderates or on the fence voters are going to find her so charming.

Speaking of LIEberman, isn’t it quite telling that he is ‘briefing’ her on foreign policy by - hold your breath - introducing her to AIPAC.

This man is so obsessed with Israel his idea of foreign policy is to bend over and take in the rear with a flaming cactus by the right wing Israeli lobby.

Hey Joe, get your ass to Israel and represent your real constituents, will ya? this is America Goddamnit!

  38. A Patriot Acting Says:

I hear from reliable sources inside the McCain camp that the media blackout will continue at least through this weekend. Cindy McCain is feverishly working on a new recipe for her grill master in chef to whip up for the hungry media hounds. Apparently borrowed from a recipe by Food Network bon vivant Rachel Ray and then “tweeked” by Cindy, it’s some kind of grilled polar bear burger. You see, Sarah Palin hops in her helicopter (she NEVER lets Johnny pilot her whirlybird) and hunts up some fresh polar bear meat. It’s pretty easy these days, you just follow the pipelines and you will find families of the delicious little buggers huddled around the pipe all snug and cozy. Anyway the hockey MILF blams the mother bear (the most tasty kind apparently) in the head, field dresses her quarry and flies it straight to the closest McMansion where Cindy preps and Johnny grills away. You see my friends, between hunting and cramming for the big VP test there just isn’t enough time in the day for press interviews…or minding those precious children of hers apparently. Once the new recipe is perfected expect a publicity blitz with appearences by Palin on such media outlets as “Throwdown With Bobby Flay” and “FOX and Friends”.

  45. impeachcheneythenbush Says:

There is something seriously askew with McCain’s behavior…the comment about his having been “body snatched” is truly bizarre. His campaign tightly controls both his and Palin’s access to the press…whose function is to inform the American public. This kind of secrecy and stealth reminds me very much of someone who is currently in control. It’s not Bush, because he claims he didn’t even sit in on the meetings that determined the number of troops for the “surge.” Evidently, this is Cheney’s third term, without even running. McCain has become some kind of automaton, but Palin is a female version of Bush. Except MORE ambitious and even more right-wing. Another perfect puppet being put out there for the American people to “vote” for. Considering that we’ve lost our democracy with the selection of Bush in 2000 and electronic voting, we need to be on guard. I don’t trust the polls either, and wonder if they aren’t setting up a scenario in which the race is “close” enough that a McCain win would be considered possible. In reality, after 8 years of disaster under the Bush administration, NO republican should be able to get reelected, let alone a President/VP from that party. If they do, it’s not the far-right Christian “base” that did it. It will be those who created the 2000 coup, and continued to “fix” the election in 2004. The only reason 2006 resulted in a large increase of Dems in office was because the differential of the vote was so large it was not possible to manipulate the results. That’s what has to happen this November. As much as I would like to see more than 2 major parties in this country, THIS year is NOT the year to go for that. Both Barr and Nadar may not be trustworthy in this regard, especially Barr, who except for his current concern about Constitutional rights, is very far-right. Same with Ron Paul.

  46. citizen_pain Says:

I hear she’ll be on The Iron Chef, showcasing her skills by preparing some polar bear fillets garnished with sauteed baby seal. And for dessert, she’s going to prepare arctic ice shelf shavings flavored with moose spunk.

Yeah, but see, here’s the thing:

Republicans think that they are the only ones who care about the country, the only ones who can take the country where it needs to go (all evidence to the contrary). They think Democrats are evil. So they assume that what’s best for their party IS what’s best for the country.

See? Problem solved? Whatever it takes to get the elected is “putting the country first”!

  50. spencers mom Says:

I think they’re busy working on the “exit strategy” for Palin stepping down.

    1. “I’m stepping down because I need to spend more time with my family” doesn’t work because there is nothing about her family situation that wasn’t already true when she accepted the nomination.

    2. “I’m forced to step down because of the media’s attack on my family” doesn’t work because they’ve kept the media away and the only time the media has mentioned the daughter’s pregnancy was after the McCain camp press release.

    3. “I’m stepping down due the recent, tragic hunting accident that took my husband’s life and has left my dear children with only one parent”

I’m going with #3. Better lock up the guns and watch your back, Todd.

Have people seen this letter from a concerned Wasilla resident, who knows Palin well??

    http://www.andrys.com/palin-kilkenny.html

The Claim vs. Fact section is priceless, but the whole thing is worth a read. The author knows the risks, and encourages circulation. The NYT has followed up on this, and there are a number of other cites at the bottom.

    CLAIM VS FACT
•“Hockey mom”: true for a few years
•“PTA mom”: true years ago when her first-born was in elementary
    school, not since
    •“NRA supporter”: absolutely true
•social conservative: mixed. Opposes gay marriage, BUT vetoed a bill
that would have denied benefits to employees in same-sex relationships
(said she did this because it was unconsitutional).
•pro-creationism: mixed. Supports it, BUT did nothing as Governor to
    promote it.
•“Pro-life”: mixed. Knowingly gave birth to a Down’s syndrome baby
BUT declined to call a special legislative session on some pro-life
    legislation
•“Experienced”: Some high schools have more students than Wasilla has
residents. Many cities have more residents than the state of Alaska.
No legislative experience other than City Council. Little hands-on
supervisory or managerial experience; needed help of a city
administrator to run town of about 5,000.
    •political maverick: not at all
    •gutsy: absolutely!
•open & transparent: ??? Good at keeping secrets. Not good at
    explaining actions.
•has a developed philosophy of public policy: no
•”a Greenie”: no. Turned Wasilla into a wasteland of big box stores
and disconnected parking lots. Is pro-drilling off-shore and in ANWR.
•fiscal conservative: not by my definition!
•pro-infrastructure: No. Promoted a sports complex and park in a city
without a sewage treatment plant or storm drainage system. Built
streets to early 20th century standards.
•pro-tax relief: Lowered taxes for businesses, increased tax burden on
    residents
•pro-small government: No. Oversaw greatest expansion of city
    government in Wasilla’s history.
•pro-labor/pro-union. No. Just because her husband works union
doesn’t make her pro-labor. I have seen nothing to support any claim
    that she is pro-labor/pro-union.

  61. Praedor Says:

She’s in trouble with Troopergate. The investigating committee has announced they are moving up their completion of the investigation by three weeks. Ouch…

Crap. I was hoping they would have more balls than Democrats in Congress and subpoena her and actually enforce the subpoena. If they are just going to come to a conclusion without forcing her and her henchmen to actually talk under oath than what’s the point?

  66. RUCerious Says:

So whilst she’s touting her mayorality, let’s be sure to inquire why she required a ‘loyalty oath’ of all her department heads when taking office.
She asked them all for resignation letters to ‘prove their personal loyalty’ to her mayorship.

Oh, and why did she try, unsuccessfully to fire the librarian? Oh, she wanted to censor books she considered inappropriate, based on her radical religious beliefs.

Let’s start asking these questions and demanding answers…

  67. EvilPoet Says:

satirev - You’re very welcome and thanks for the head’s up on all the other stuff. I’m familiar with that part of the story as well. Geesh. It’s like never ending, isn’t it? Do I trust Todd Palin? Ya sure I do and it’s safe to let a fox watch over a chicken house.

  68. RUCerious Says:

Biden’s going to nail her phony BS stories to the wall during the veep debate, and show the nation what a shallow, vindictive nobody she really is.

  69. pete Says:

    Un. Freakin. Real.

How the Hell can the public trust these clowns to run the country when their campaign doesn’t trust them to answer direct questions?

    VP Debates Round 1

Q: So, Miss-not-quite-Miss Alaska, Recent polls have shown a fifth of Americans can’t locate Alaska, let alone their ass from a hole in the ground with a world map and tend to vote Republican. Why do you think this is?

Palin: “I personally believe that U.S. Americans are like all Georgians and are, uh, unable to do so because, um, some people out there in our nation don’t have maps and, uh, I believe that our, uh, education like such as, uh, South Africa and, uh, the Iraq 9/11 and everywhere like such as, and I believe that they should, uh, our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S., uh, should help South Wherever and should help Iraq, uh, 9/11 and the Asian countries, so we will be able to build up our future with terror without liberals or laws or, uh, maps.”

  71. had enough Says:

Is anyone surprised the corporate owned media wishes to keep Palin from the public? Palin’s fake image must be maintained as the corporate powers that be have everything to lose or gain.

  72. sectionop92 Says:

Are we sure John McCain didn’t mean “town & country club” first? Cindy sure had on some fine $3,000 designer curtains and the standard showcase GOP first lady perils. That gathering on-stage would have sent a shiver down Norman Rockwell’s spine.

  73. lurker Says:

Even if they got an interview with her her answer to everything would be “I can’t discuss it because there
    is an ongoing investagation”

    why are the trolls?

  74. RUCerious Says:

Yo! Satirev, her shallowness will become clear after Biden serves her up her own liver, carefully and gently sliced and diced, with onions and bacon. She’ll be lovin it!

  75. sectionop92 Says:

    satirev

Yeah, Palin does have the “alpha” female mentality to her and flaunted it quite well last night. I don’t doubt she’ll lack in her choice of suitors and that her husband is just the nice linen that she puts out for the media to see.

Cindy didn’t look so hot, but see still bankrolls John. So if he steps out of line, that would be the end of him.

  76. RUCerious Says:

Satirev, in response to the increasing meth problem, she lowered (corporate, think big box) property taxes and raised regressive sales taxes to make more poor people so the meth dealers would get a new crop of customers.

the corporate powers that be are hoping Palin’s image will be sufficient… that the general public, a public hypnotized by TV and too busy working 3 jobs to survive will not notice. If McCain/Palin can get enough votes then the cheating will be a lot easier.

This election is the turning point… the corporate powers that be wins, it is over for us. If We the People can take some control, we have a chance to break up the corporate control.

  78. Tahut Says:

This is the perfect opportunity for the MSM to strike some points with the public…honor McCain’s wishes. Avoid him and his campaign like the plague. Show no interest. Ignore any calls. Don’t follow up on any leads. Treat McCain and his campaign as if it were an election in some remote 3rd world banana republic. Just give him what he wants and justly deserves.

  79. barfly Says:

McCain Campaign Plans To Keep Palin Away From The Press

    Muffler Express.

Bet some bar-b-que would go good right about now, eh, media backrubbers?

  80. Tahut Says:

her shallowness will become clear after Biden serves her up her own liver

Me thinks the debates may be a thing of the past unless Palin is given questions in advance.

  81. lurker Says:

satirev there is a blog http://mudflats.wordpress.com/
A must see to know the real Shara from locals.

  82. RightOfAttila Says:

I’m sure Mrs. Palin would get a fair shake from the rabid left media like keith olbermann and katie couric.

  83. Bilbo Hussein Baggins Says:

    #Praedor Says:
Crap. I was hoping they would have more balls than Democrats in Congress and subpoena her and actually enforce the subpoena. If they are just going to come to a conclusion without forcing her and her henchmen to actually talk under oath than what’s the point?

They said they were fast tracking the investigation. I don’t think that means they are going to gloss it over. I suspect they will subpoena her assistant and maybe even Ms. Sarah. But if she doesn’t want to testify on her own behalf, so be it. I suspect they may have more than enough evidence against her to find that she acted in an unethical manner.

The stupid part of what she did was the fact that she could fire the guy she fired for no reason other than she wanted to. If she had played it smart she should have fired him before she and her staff made all the harassing phone calls and e-mails.

  84. Bilbo Hussein Baggins Says:

    RightOfAttila Says:
I’m sure Mrs. Palin would get a fair shake from the rabid left media like keith olbermann and katie couric.

You mean like the “fair shake” that liberals get on Faux Noise and shows like O’Reilly?

  85. Tahut Says:

I’m wondering if the media blackout on Palin not only stifles the MSM from probing her, but also stops any legal action being considered in the state of Alaska? Her attorney has already blasted the lawyer hired by the State Senate panel for improperly attempting to contact Todd Palin and threaten to sic the Secret Service on them. Can McCain use the Secret Service to thwart a State investigation of a sitting Governor? even though she’s the VP nominee? That’s stretching the rules a bit too far, in my opinion. Like they’re using the Secret Service to protect Palin from investigations of possible wrong doing(s) until the statue of limitations expire.

  86. Bilbo Hussein Baggins Says:

    Tahut Says:
her shallowness will become clear after Biden serves her up her own liver

I would agree with this if it was truly going to be a debate. But if the “debate” is run like they were in the primaries, it will simply be a question and answer format and I’m fairly sure that Ms. Sarah will get the questions before hand. Either that or they will have her wired. Especially the “debate” that Brian Williams will be moderating.

just curious what you call fair if we are not allowed to hear the real facts and Palin’s views.

Doesn’t it seem suspect to you that the campaign is afraid of exposing the real Palin? It doesn’t matter anyway just so the embryos are saved right?

At least, from what I have heard, Palin’s troopergate problem will now be looked into in Oct. before the election instead of after.

  88. mk3872 Says:

Once again, the Obama team does not control the news cycle. Where are the ads defining Palin as out of touch and deceitful? They should have been playing by now … It is not like he does not have the money!

    RUCerious Says:
Let’s start asking these questions and demanding answers…

What I would like to see is a thorough investigation of her church and her pastor. I would also like to see the MSM play 24×7 her pastors thoughts on jews. If any one has any doubt that the MSM is controlled by the right, just ask yourself what would have happened if Rev. Wright had said what Sarah Palin’s pastor said about jews.

  90. EugeneDebs Says:

RightofAttilla (and stupider than an underwater BBQ) gives us another repitition of the zombie meme about the leftwing press. A mythical creature who never existed and can be found next to the fountain of youth where you will also find Godot riding a unicorn. Hiveminders are really ignorant they have lost all touch with reality but somehow can repeat the mantras drilled into their heads by their Limborg masters. Kudos on showing us how you have no brainpan ROF but are both proud of your ignorance AND your tape recorder

  91. had enough Says:

Sept. 15 - Ed Shultz will play on his show the town hall meeting held in Alaska on Sept. 13, a meeting held to find facts on Palin.

How many frenzied rapture ready and corporatist righties will stack the audience?

Don’t get in a panic. The Democrats were sitting back allowing the Republicans to dig their own graves. Now that they have done it, I’m sure that we will be seeing plenty of ads showing the public who Ms. Sarah really is.

  95. bcinaz Says:

It would be pretty frickin’ hilarious if Obama added a second aircraft and bus to his tour and took any and all McCain reporters with him and granted interviews constantly - himself on the evening news, with Olberman, and Larry King, and Anderson Cooper. Biden too.

I think for McCain the only thing worse than having to talk to nosy reporters is being ignored by most of the main stream media. How can you have a campaign built on a cult of personality, if you have no cult?

Nicolle is such a smooth and accomplished liar, I can hardly believe that she just flat out refused when she could surely have come up with an acceptable lie. I don’t know what that would be, but I’m not nearly the liar she is. She is really, really, good, and I’m really, really surprised that she was not the smoothie she usually is.

  98. polderjongetje Says:

sorry guys but I smell a rat. Everybody is assuming she wouldn’t be able to handle the press. Why? She’s faced the press before? For low info voters and the press, you don’t need to know a lot about the finer details of complex issues. Republicans don’t do complex and details.

So what do you think happens? The Evul Media and the progosphere start bashing ‘that poor woman’ relentlessly to answer questions from the Press. After a week or so, and after much pressure, she sits down with the Evul Media, and guess what? She gives a couple of zingers, no matter how absurd. To the Base and a lot of low-info voters, she wins with flying colors. “See? She’s not that bad as everybody is saying”.

And the Dems and the Evul Media have gotten another black eye.

  99. Lusmu Says:

Ask Davis who is Sarah Palin going to represent and who is she employed by as the Vice President of the USA.

If the answer is the people of the USA, then the campaign has to give the media access to Palin. They are the only way through which voters can learn about her and make their decision whether to vote for McCain/Palin or Obama/Biden. Its not about media ego, it’s about reporting and the public’s right to know.

Of course, if Davis thinks that Sarah’s real employer has already approved her and is somehow afraid that she might screw up the campaign, his decision to block media access is very understandable…

  100. polderjongetje Says:

“her shallowness will become clear after Biden serves her up her own liver”

Sorry, but this were everybody is getting her wrong and Rove is playing you like violins again.

Everybody is setting the bar SOOOO low for Palin, that even her showing up will be a victory. For Palin.

The only one to loose The Debate right now is Biden. When she does not totally embarrass herself with a major major gaffe, Palin has already won. The same happened with Bush and Gore, the same is going to happen with Palin and Biden.

  101. acv Says:

I guess McCain thinks the country not knowing the VP is putting the county first and selfish ambition second. I was going to say, “could his judgement be any worse” but we know the answer to that.

I still can’t get over that McCain doesn’t know how to use a computer and Palin thinks the Book of Genisis is reality! I’m scared.

  102. Sivle Says:

It seems the Republicans are building demand for an interview with Palin. When they do release her, everyone will want to watch. They will milk this curiosity about her and run out some of the clock. Then on TV (Larry King?)she will spew attacks and falsehoods that would make Rush Limbaugh proud. She is good theater. Its tricky for Biden to come after her now or during their debate and not seem nasty. You are going to continue to see a huge double standard. She has already show us her nastiness. How can Obama/Biden let her right-wing radio rhetoric stand and still take the high road? Facts and nuance will look weak fighting a pitbull with lipstick. Also, all this attention on her deflects it from McCain. Many American’s short attention span, or their refusal to research deputed claims makes the bark more appealing that the logic. Will they take the time to understand the difference between letting a current tax break on people making around $250,000 and up expire and the statement “He will raise your taxes”. Some hardworking people simply don’t have the time or energy to wade through the crap while working and raising a family. Maybe it is as simple as they hear what they want to hear. Obama has to find a way to simply, firmly and without whining, say how MCCAIN/PALIN AND ALL THOSE BIG NAME REPUBLICANS WHO SPOKE AT THEIR CONVENTION ARE HYPOCRITES AND THEY AREN’T LIKE YOU!! This has to be done in good sound bite fashion, over and over again, for all small town and on-the-fence Americans to hear. Anybody with any degree of open mindedness will start to realize the truth.

  103. TeleMan Says:

DAVIS: There are no strings attached to our coverage. We don’t sit there and say to you guys, hey look, if you don’t report nicely, we’re not going to see you.

Umm, didn’t they just do that, canceling the CNN/King interview with McCain? And what about kicking reporters off the bus/plane?

  104. TeleMan Says:

Off topic, but speaking of APIAC. Has anyone else been seeing these anti-Iran, nuclear scare, fear-mongering commercials sponsored by some pro Israel groups? I’ve seen a few of these from two different groups now over the past week. Just what we need for an October Surprise, war with Iran.

  105. sectionop92 Says:

    polderjongetje Says:

sorry guys but I smell a rat. Everybody is assuming she wouldn’t be able to handle the press. Why? She’s faced the press before? For low info voters and the press, you don’t need to know a lot about the finer details of complex issues. Republicans don’t do complex and details.

No, because Palin doesn’t know the McCain campaigns finer points…and neither does most of America BTW. Excellent roll out on policy through much stated biography last night. So by keeping her out of the media’s reach on the “toughies”, they prevent any hard blows from landing off of a big smiley face based on style and not substance the last couple of days.

The media is going to hit even harder with every campaign handler who keeps her in the McCain green zone bunker, when she eventually comes out. If she’s one tick away from being president, we need to see her in the “crisis/3 a.m.” mode, where the tough questions are flying and we see her “experience” in action…and I’m looking for that “executive” stuff you guys are touting. It’s harder to run a nation than a town, you know…when the consequences of your actions will touch millions and people could very well hate you for it.

And the Dems and the Evul Media have gotten another black eye.

Yeah, those “Evul” media people who won’t back off of the POW’s new champ because he and you say so…but if something scandalous off of YouTube surfaces on Obama, it’s a diamond mine that tells who he is immediately, correct? Lets face it, McCain’s knee-jerk pick wasn’t properly vetted and all of her mistakes could doom your hero and hopes of keeping that fancy piece of real estate. So you have to blame all of the usual cliched suspects, because that is what makes it digestible to you and still gives McCain/Palin a chance to the People magazine crowd that doesn’t find much fault beyond a few issues.

  106. Proud American Liberal Says:

The Republicans are toast. They’ve blown it no matter which way the wind blows now. If they don’t put Sarah Palin out front, John McCain is fully exposd. And you know what cockroaches do when the lights go on, don’t you?

And if they do put Sarah Palin out front, she’s going to open her mouth and stick a mulkluk in it. And it will be covered with moose-turd pie.

    They are so toast.

  107. SENIOR VETERAN Says:

If our America is to survive, these leeches will not steal, er, win the election.
If the very worst of the worst for America does occur, will darth cheney take mcpain bird hunting?

Will barbiepalin talk him into it?
