From the day he named Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK) to be his vice presidential running mate, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) has been citing Palin’s opposition to the infamous Bridge to Nowhere as the prime example of her ability to stand up to lobbyists and wasteful spending.
That claim has been repeatedly debunked. In fact, in 2007, Palin lamented that Congress had “little interest in spending any more money on a bridge between Ketchikan and Gravina Island.” Political leaders in Ketchikan, such as mayor Bob Weinstein, have expressed outrage at Palin’s betrayal of their cause:
People are learning that she pandered to us by saying, I’m for this’ … and then when she found it was politically advantageous for her nationally, abruptly she starts using the very term that she said was insulting.
The McCain campaign, however, continues to repeat the lie. ThinkProgress has put together a Lies To Nowhere report, documenting every time the McCain campaign repeats the myth that Palin opposed the Bridge to Nowhere. So far, we have counted the lie being repeated at least 18 times:

Please let us know if there are any instances we’ve missed, and we’ll continue to update the document.
Digg It!
LEE’S SUMMIT, Mo. (AP) – John McCain and Sarah Palin criticized Democrat Barack Obama over the amount of money he has requested for his home state of Illinois, even though Alaska under Palin’s leadership has asked Washington for 10 times more money per citizen for pet projects.

September 8th, 2008 at 4:31 pmIf only the mainstream MSM would bring up these insistent lies and contradictions people will be able to make an informed decision about her.Why is she not talking to the press? She is running for the V.P. of this country and she is being hidden from the press and the press isn`t even focusing on this fact, so this tells me and you that she is not ready for V.P. muchless govenor or even mayor.Onec again the Johnny Mcwars Protection Society is doing it`s job of not focusing on a very important issue,Where in the World is Sarah Palin ?
September 8th, 2008 at 4:33 pmIs there anyone with a plane? We could do a skywriting of this, or trail a ginormous banner?
Is there anyway to get this out to the public?
Perhaps write it on a quarterback’s forearm cheat sheet during a football game?
Or have the fans turn over cards one lie at a time during halftime?
Crikeys!@
September 8th, 2008 at 4:41 pmPalin is being kept by McCain’s handlers in a major media deep freezer: her Igloo of Silence, as it were. So much for her being a so-called “pit bull;” just take away the “pit” and all you have is Palin bull.
September 8th, 2008 at 4:42 pmPalin is the Bridgess to Nowhere…
September 8th, 2008 at 4:43 pmDo a “The Google” search on ‘bridge to nowhere’ with ‘Palin.’ You get, at last count, 2,280,000 hits.
September 8th, 2008 at 4:44 pmLengthy articles containing statements and ads etc. won’t work. What we need is a list that says :
1. Sarah Palin lied about … abcd … …
2. Sarah Palin lied about … efgh … …
3. Sarah Palin lied about … ijkl … …
and so on.
September 8th, 2008 at 4:44 pmSee, here’s the thing. The Repukes will continue to flog the line about Thanx but no thanx to the Bridge to Nowhere (when the opposite is true), but they’ll hammer it into the public consciousness until the public believes what the Wacko Crowd is saying. “Surely you would agree,” said Rove to Plato, “that the truth comes from the repetition of a lie.”
September 8th, 2008 at 4:46 pmIf you include all lies then the list will be much, much longer.
Heck, George McSame and John Bush have a list so long that no one even tries to tackle that one.
September 8th, 2008 at 4:47 pmwhirlaway Says:
1. Sarah Palin lied about … abcd … …
2. Sarah Palin lied about … efgh … …
3. Sarah Palin lied about … ijkl … …
– - She lied about every letter in the alphabet? Geeze, that means every word out of her mouth is lie, dontchaknow?
September 8th, 2008 at 4:48 pmThe truth doesn’t matter ANYMORE. It’s all about the ‘framing.’ It’s all about style over any substance, it’s the complete abdication of any moral sense of right and wrong and they then have the temerity to preach to me about ANYTHING? Abortion? Gay rights? Basic economics? War records? War? Sarah, you got a lot of ’splainin’ to do!
September 8th, 2008 at 4:49 pmAnd if McDumpty hides behinds her skirts anymore…if she hides behind God anymore, there won’t be anyone to debate with come time for the debates. Which will be fine with them, since they can’t…you know…debate about anything having to do with…oh let’s say GOVERNANCE.
September 8th, 2008 at 4:51 pmAnd if McDumpty hides behinds her skirts anymore…if she hides behind God anymore, there won’t be anyone to debate with come time for the debates. Which will be fine with them, since they can’t…you know…debate about anything having to do with…oh let’s say GOVERNANCE.
September 8th, 2008 at 4:51 pmoOOPS…SORRY!!
September 8th, 2008 at 4:51 pmWill someone please, please ask Governor Palin what become of the money for the bridge? Where did it go – nowhere?
September 8th, 2008 at 4:56 pmRight on, GeeDubs. The MSM, for one, seems to be taking from the McCain campaign’s complaints an informal directive to “get its act together” and place balance right back above truth. (Read: Keith Olbermann’s removal from campaign coverage).
September 8th, 2008 at 4:56 pmEven Paris Hilton is smarter and more aware of current events than Palin. We just need to wait two election cycles and then Paris Hilton will be old enough to run for President.
September 8th, 2008 at 4:57 pmShe’s a fictional story line to begin with. Someone with a deep record of Executive experience and reform would be doing interviews.
These people might as well be actors reading someone else’s script. Oh? That’s what they’re really doing!
Repugnicants will do everything possible to maintain the Maverick/Reformer myth. It’s the Old Nag/Ice Witch ticket.
September 8th, 2008 at 4:58 pmI see now that the Alaska Independence Party is trying to cover Palin’s tracks. They say she was never a member, even though she gave at least one speech for them. They do admit that her husband was a member, but claim that he uninvolved.
Remember that the head of this party has spoken of infiltrating the major parties in order to further their goal of seccession. They will obviously lie in order to protect their agents.
Welcome to the home of
September 8th, 2008 at 5:01 pmThe Alaskan Independence Party
But China is drilling off the Florida coast. The Bridge to nowhere will allow us to drill in ANWAR to offset this.
My point ? The dem party had better figure out how to deal with this barrage of lies. Otherwise, the gullible will figure that all these statements are straight talk.
September 8th, 2008 at 5:06 pmAlright, I am willing to offer an honorable mention here but still in terms of made up fairy tales for consumption by the masses, Ms. Palin can’t be offered anything more than the lamest of the ribbons. Her made up story sucks compared to the Jessica Lynch tale
September 8th, 2008 at 5:08 pmOh, great idea. We probably also need tickers for the number of times the McCain campaign claims that “Obama will raise everybody’s taxes”, “China is drilling for oil near Cuba”, and other thoroughly false and debunked canards.
September 8th, 2008 at 5:09 pmAt least Obama is not denying his earmarks, he is not running on a reform ticket like Mcwars is.The N.Y.Times did an article on Obama`s earmarks and it was close to 750 million$$$ and and he isn`t denying like the Reich is.They can`t and will not run on the issues so it`s back to fearmongering about spending and raising taxes and health care that will not work.So take everything the Reich says with a grain of salt and remember it`s all a ploy with no substance ot truth.
September 8th, 2008 at 5:10 pmGood post, wiwi. I don’t have a problem with earmarks, but I remember Bilbo saying they should be out in the open as one bill so spending requests can be vetted thoroughly.
September 8th, 2008 at 5:19 pmWhat we need is a campaign to get the earmark back. ‘No Thanks’ means you DO NOT take the money. Where is the American taxpayers money Sarah?
September 8th, 2008 at 5:38 pmI don’t care how many times Palin or McCain repeat the same lie.
The biggest point to be made is that she kept the $230+ million anyway, to use on her own pet pork projects!
That’s my money, and yours, too, folks!
PEACE
September 8th, 2008 at 5:42 pmThe media are immediately jumping on Palin’s statement about Obama earmarks. Now they are focusing on Obama earmarks. The media always forget the “point.”
The issue Obama pointed out was McCain & Palin were lying about earmarks.
Obama has never said he did not take any earmarks. Almost every member of Congress has taken earmarks, including John McCain
September 8th, 2008 at 5:52 pm6:19 pm eastern time CNN Palin just said she put the plane on EBay and then she said she worked against the bridge to no where. She spit out all manner of BS. She is in Ohio, Lebanon I think, which is a little bitty town. Why there?
September 8th, 2008 at 6:22 pmWell America you’ve finally done it. What is “it”? Put McCain in office despite all of the evidence that he will ruin this country. I’ve watched politics since the 1968 election and I have concluded something. The American people are basically STUPID and vote based on a buch of bullzhit that has nothing to do with their own best interest. I predicted the country would suffer under Bush and I was right.
Now let me tell you why I said the American people are stupid. One, what moron in his right mind thinks that electing McCain equals “Change”. Second, McCail will appoint the very same individuals who ran the Bush administration to run his. They will either be the same NEO Cons for people just like them who think exactly the same way. Third, if 80 percent of the country think that we are on the wrong track, but vote for McCain anyway, that’s the definition of “Insanity” or at best “Stupidty”. Fourth, McCain is 72 years old and has had one of the deadliest cancers know to man four times. Fifth, Sara Palin (Jesus in a dress) has about as much business being VP as I do.
As Sen. Obama is fond of pointing out, “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result”. If you morons like $4.00 a gallon gas, you’re going to love $10.00 a gallon gas just as soon as McCain attack Iran. Wake up fools we already have two wars and this old fart want to start another with a country that can and will cause gas prices to go so high none but McCain’s rich wife and her friends will be able to afford it. I’m attracted to Sara physically, but I wouldn’t vote for her if my life depended on it. Why? As I said earlier, she doesn’t have a clue about what’s going on in the world. Oh yeah, I can see her standing up to Vladimir Putin in a crisis situation.
I am a veteran, but I don’t want to elect a man who is ashamed of losing in Viet Nam and wants to start a war so he can prove he knows how to win one. He keeps going around saying he knows who to win a war. Answer this question. What war has he won? That’s right, none. I want all of you to print this blog and save it because when we end up in a “DEPRESSION” which I predict, you can say I said it first. Why will we end up in a depression. It’s simple really. If you had a checking account that you stopped putting money into, but you keep spending it, what will happen? That’s right!
Here’s McCain’s plan: Cut taxes on the rich and business, cut spending on the poor, education, etc, no health care, and start another war. He believes that if you cut taxes enough on business they will create jobs. But there is only one big problem with that approach. President Reagan and Bush both tried it and we ended up owing more money than we can ever pay off. Second the businesses just take the money put it on their bottom line and ship jobs overseas to make even more of a profit. They aren’t in business to help the workers all they care about are profits.
With no health care and a population getting sicker and older, social security about to go belly up and no jobs for the workers to pay into the system, that spells depression. Also the big one: When countries that are hostile to us like Russia, and China go to the bank to cash in those government bonds we sold them at high interest rates, and we don’t have the money, guess what happens. THAT’S RIGHT A DEPRESSION. I didn’t even mention paying for a third war when we already are spending 10 billions dollars a month on Iraq.
Now if any of you stupid morons who support McCain can answer my points, go right ahead.
September 8th, 2008 at 7:19 pmPROOF of the lie:
Congressional Republicans killed the bridge to nowhere in 2005 – BEFORE Palin ran for Governor on a platform of supporting it!

I think it would be simpler if somebody just asks the Failure Party for the of truths she has told.
Some lies that aren’t getting much play:
The patriotic 9.11 enlistment of Track: “go to jail or enlist, son” said the judge.
The patriotic deployment on 9.11: actually a ceremony of 9.11 and his CO said Track might not attend. Another tidbit surrounding this – it is a national security violation for an elected official to publically ‘leak’ the deployment date of troops during war. We are at war. She has blabbed the date everywhere, endangering troops. (yep, yep, she’s umm, a thinker, ah right)
She did NOT return the money for the bridge, as she has stated.
Oh, yeah, one more: You know all that ‘executive’ experience she got as major? Well, after she tried to ban books in the library and the librarian refused and Palin tried to fire her, a citizen group went nuts and started & either started or threatened to start a recall. They finally negotiated with Palin that she could stay. IF a city manager was hired. The rest of her term she had NO executive duties, the effing city mgr did the job.
Don’t take any BS on this, many small towns avoid the headaches of mayoral politics, and ego. They just have a city mgr who reports to the city council.

“If it wasn’t for lies, there’d be no Palin, or GOP, at all”
“The Failure Party:” bringing you lies, hippocracy and deceit since 1972.
It was said once that “it takes a village to raise a child’. I contend ‘it will take a nation to save our country’.

Too bad the Democratic Party is the Party of “Follow the Leader” and “
CompromisedBipartisan Values”. I mean, they only ignore following the “Rule of Law” and play the game of “Kumbaya – Get Along” politics so as to not make waves… which results in consistent defense of positions and NO offense and enforced principles to stand on.Too bad…

Why don’t “Liberal Blogs” hold the Democratic Party’s feet to the fire?
… Especially on election issues?

September 9th, 2008 at 12:50 amThis is from DEMOCRACYNOW:
Palin: Iraq War is a “Task” from God
In campaign news, a video has emerged of Republican vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin telling ministry students at her former church that the US invasion of Iraq is a task from God.
Sarah Palin: “Pray for our military men and women who are striving to do what is right. Also, for this country, that our leaders, our national leaders, are sending them out on a task that is from God. That’s what we have to make sure that we’re praying for, that there is a plan and that that plan is God’s plan. So bless them with your prayers, your prayers of protection over our soldiers.”
During the same address, Palin said the construction of a new oil pipeline in Alaska is God’s will.
Sarah Palin: “I can do my part in doing things like working really, really hard to get a natural gas pipeline, about a $30 billion project that’s going to create a lot of jobs for Alaskans, and we’ll have a lot of energy flowing through here. And pray about that also. I think God’s will has to be done in unifying people and companies to get that gas line built, so pray for that.”
The video of her speech was originally posted on the Wasilla Assembly of God’s website
