Though former Bush political guru Karl Rove insistently denies that he has a working relationship with Sen. John McCain’s (R-AZ) presidential campaign, the evidence that he is an informal adviser continues to mount. Last week, Time magazine described how “Rove speaks regularly with the McCain campaign.” Today, the Hill quotes a GOP operative who says “Rove has had a consistent, ‘medium’-sized role with the McCain campaign”:
A GOP operative said Rove has had a consistent, “medium”-sized role with the McCain campaign.
Another senior Republican official said Rove has good relationships with several of McCain’s senior advisers, and it’s not unusual for him to reach out to them.
As ThinkProgress has previously noted, one reason Rove may be reluctant to admit his ties to the McCain campaign is the fact that he is also reported to be “developing outside groups” to help Republicans and John McCain in November. It is illegal for outside groups to coordinate with campaigns.
"Medium-sized role" yeah right. This campaign has his grimy finger prints all over it.
September 8th, 2008 at 10:13 pmThere is also the Bush = Rove = McCain connection that I'm sure the republicans don't want the dumb majority to think about.
September 8th, 2008 at 10:24 pmLook - rove is no "genius", he is a criminal. It is easy to look like a "genius" when you have the organization in place to steal 2 elections (2000 and 2004).
It is only possible to steal those elections with the complicity of the mainstream media - the same lying liars that told us Iraq had WMD.
The criminal cabal behind the current administration will do whatever it takes to keep a sock-puppet in control.
Eventually, we will have to stop talking about the personalities in front of the microphones and cameras - they are not really our problem.
The only way we will see meaningful change is if we can send a message to the political/economic interests that are behind the charade.
Blog about rove all you want - it will do no good. He is not really our problem - just another distraction.
It will take organized boycotts of the corpocracy behind this all - until folks are willing to admit that we cannot change American politics with our keyboards, they will have their way. We cannot have meaningful change just because we send money to good causes.
It does look like fall's election is going to be stolen - the memes are all in place. Hundreds of thousands of voters are being eliminated from the rolls - all likely democratic votes.
Perhaps then, some will be willing to work on withholding the only vote we have that really is counted - the dollars we spend.
I, for one, am so tired about hearing rove this, rove that. The dems won't enforce subpoenas. Yes he is a criminal, but no, he does not deserve all of our attention.
September 8th, 2008 at 10:25 pmThe progressive blogs have been saying turd is in this dirty tactic bs forever.
turd is just making the unbelievable tactics used for the last two selected campaigns one last go round. for the gipper.
look how he tried to ruin your constitution, your way of life.
turd won't be satisfied until he makes us pay for his cool tatoo gay daddy.
September 8th, 2008 at 10:29 pmGame of Life - don't kid yourself.
After the treason, war crimes, and crimes against humanity that the criminal cabal behind this administration has committed - they cannot afford to let an honest politician take over the executive branch.
Perhaps that is why we are seeing obama versus mccain...
This is not "one last hurray".GREAT CRIMES DEMAND EVEN GREATER CRIMINALITY
It you think we have seen it all, you aint seen nothin' yet.
September 8th, 2008 at 10:35 pmLiar, Traitor and Thief. That about covers Rove. Covers a good number of Republicans these days in power though, huh?
September 8th, 2008 at 10:39 pmAnother Joe. Exactly. Rove is not a genius. Every so often someone comes along and is successful by acting like the rules do not apply to them. By showing they have no decency and there is no level of moral depravity to which they will not stoop. That isnt genius, its a disgusting lack of integrity. Usually they end up being swallowed in the tsunami of crap they have piled up right behind them. Sometimes they get out soon enough to avoid that tsunami but they are NEVER to be admired and they are never to be emulated. Values and ethics DO limit you, they limit you to what is decent and in the long run they are limits that are worth it. They are limits that serve society overall. They are NOT to be ignored just because you see someone else getting away with it.
September 8th, 2008 at 10:42 pm"It is illegal for outside groups to coordinate with campaigns."
So when has Rove ever been concerned with legalities?
September 8th, 2008 at 10:44 pmIt is illegal for outside groups to coordinate with campaigns.
______________________________________________________
Ha! Like "illegal" bothers Rove at all. The only thing Rove is afraid of is being put under oath -- something I could never quite understand, since he's OK about lying through his teeth in all other instances.
September 8th, 2008 at 10:45 pmIn summary, Rove is reluctant to admit that he is engaging in something he knows to be illegal. Which means that McStain is, too.
This pig-eyed sack of shiite will not succeed this election.
To quote a great man: ENOUGH!
PEACE
September 8th, 2008 at 10:46 pmEugeneDebs - well said, but we also have to recognize that there are folks BEHIND rove, cheney, bush, and the rest of the morons they parade around in front of the cameras.
Rove can only act like the rules do not apply to him because of the powerful political/economic interests he represents. Without them, he is nothing. When rove, cheney, bush, etc. are long gone, those interests will still be working behind the scene.
Unfortunately, most of the self-proclaimed liberal blogosphere is too wrapped up in the personalities in the news and chooses to pay no attention to the folks that these people represent.
They win when me make this all about rove, bush, cheney, rumsfield, rice, ethics, competence, and integrity. They laugh all the way to the bank.

September 8th, 2008 at 10:48 pmIs Karl involved in the latest 527 attack dog, Leadership for America? I can see his bloody touch.
September 8th, 2008 at 10:48 pmAnother Joe
It not that we seen the worst of the repugs yet. Oh hell no. But we have seen their bs time and time again. It's a worn playbook not serving well in the 21st century.
So what AJ, Sen. Obama lived the worse of their racism. He surpassed every old white boy bs that way mushed in his fine face.
if racist win then, your constitution, your laws, your institutions are full of shit.
September 8th, 2008 at 10:51 pmShouldn't Rove be in prison for the illegal firings of the Attorneys and then failing to answer a subpoena?
September 8th, 2008 at 10:52 pmThis pig-eyed sack of shiite will not succeed this election.
Sure they will "succeed" (note I did not say they will "win"). Most people (even here) are not ready to talk about what is really happening - this is not really about rove, cheney, bush, and gang.
There will always be plenty of people willing to sell-out to the folks behind these fools.
And day in, day out, many just want to pound their keyboards over the distractions. The challenges we face are much bigger than rove, cheney, bush, and mccain.
We do have one vote that counts - the dollars in our wallets. All social change took sacrifices.
For some reason, some very simple sacrifices, targeted organized boycotts are "off limits." Rove is not our problem.
September 8th, 2008 at 10:54 pmShouldn’t Rove be in prison for the illegal firings of the Attorneys and then failing to answer a subpoena?
The democrats gave him a free pass - does that tell you something?
Even when one of their own was illegally railroaded into prison, the democrats will do nothing.
They are complicit with all of this - they are responsible for the fact that rove and others have not been held accountable.
September 8th, 2008 at 10:55 pmThe only thing that Rove does that isn't illegal is fart.
That being said, and in the wake of Matthews and Olbermann being criticized and punished for allegedly being too opinionated/political during the RNC, doesn't that make Rove's 'job' on supposedly "fair and balanced" Fux Noise juuuust a bit suspect?
September 8th, 2008 at 10:57 pmGame of Life, racism is just another way to divide and conquor. Unfortunately, it is very effective.
But the racism serves a purpose. We live in a divided, racist culture because it make it easy to manipulate and control.
Want to end racism? Then its time to talk about the political/economic interests that benefit from it and not just the folks that stand in front of the cameras and microphones.
It really wouldn't be hard to send a message to the corpocracy - a peaceful message - we don't need to continue to buy the crap we can live without.
It's much easier to blog about rove though, isn't it.
September 8th, 2008 at 10:58 pmJane - is you only "suspect" that faux is bogus, you ain't paying attention.
But they serve their masters well.
September 8th, 2008 at 11:00 pmIt is illegal for outside groups to coordinate with campaigns.
WTF are you talking about, TP?
September 8th, 2008 at 11:11 pmAnother Joe:
September 8th, 2008 at 11:11 pmYou seem to have lots to say and you seem to wanna say it with confidence. If so why not just lay out your plan? Maybe I missed it. If so I apologize in advance
Another Joe
joe, joe, joe you don't understand racism.
racist alway believe that racism will win. Grant you that your constitution is the foundation of racism. I will grant you that racism is still alive and breathing.
But I won't grant you is the hope of US citizens giving up because the past is their only hope.
Nope, can't do it, can't allow it.
September 8th, 2008 at 11:20 pmjust found this, sorry about the OT... fresh(er) thread worthy:
'Frannie' bailout heavy with irony
* Michael West
* September 10, 2008 - 9:36AM
* Page 1 of 3 | Single page
Wall Street has reacted well to news the US Government would become the world's biggest home lender. So is this the beginning of the end of the credit crisis?
The nationalisation of the two home mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac should avert a systemic failure which threatened mass defaults in the housing market, just as Treasury Secretary Hank Paulsen designed it.
It's a move heavy with irony though. Here is Team Dubya and the Republicans, the ultimate proponents of free-market capitalism, pulling off the biggest nationalisation since World War Two.
The laissez-fair brigade which usually beys about the evils of big government is strangely silent as the taxpayer rides to the rescue of the banking system. They rarely contradict Wall Street and Wall Street has given its imprimatur in the wake of a euphoric rise in the rest of the world's markets on Monday.
There is now further precedent from the US Government for privatising profits and socialising losses.

US waves goodbye to prosperity and democracy
* David Hirst
* September 8, 2008
THE events of the weekend begin the greatest intervention in the US economy by the Federal Government since the Great Depression, with the Bear Stearns rescue but a splutter on this road we must now travel.
If you were wondering what all the flag-waving at the Republican convention has been about, it is now clear. Americans are waving goodbye to the prosperity the nation has enjoyed since the Great Depression and a final goodbye to democracy. But while preparation for the most important decision made in the nation's post-depression financial history towered above the conventions, I don't think the fate of Freddie and Fannie and the remaining government-sponsored enterprises (GSEs) was mentioned during either convention.

September 8th, 2008 at 11:34 pmWho cut the cheese?
September 8th, 2008 at 11:40 pmdb, you should stop by our exit and visit Salingers' Orchards sometime soon. I've heard rumors that this is their last year in business We could have some apples and cider together. We can talk about this elsewhere, of course.
Back on topic: I disagree to some extent with those who say forget about Rove. His perfection of the 'art' of slimy politics, along with his Neocon beliefs and his arrogance towards the rule of law, has become the norm in the Republican party, and this campaign reflects the mind-set. Not to mention that Rove's minions have, and will probably try to again, utilized every trick he can think up to deter certain votes from being cast or counted.
September 8th, 2008 at 11:55 pmHey Chris. Good to see MSNBC is letting you log on to TP from your office.
September 9th, 2008 at 12:12 amPalin Rocks! Says:
McCain is kicking the Democrats ass!!!!!!!!!!
She sure is! Look at the lying talking tongues go!

I bet you go on a palin site and says Sen. Obama rocks!
You are a pathetic inbred asso

500 times~!.

It’s much easier to blog about rove though, isn’t it.
__________
Poor Joe... ***sniff... sniff***... whattaburden... the ONLY one in the whole world who understands what's really going on here...
We feel for ya, Li'l Feller... no, we really do...
September 9th, 2008 at 1:20 amjoe wants to be a troll but can't overcome the lies mcchimp and plain spew.
Joe try real hard to think of one thing that mcchimpy has done for the nation? he is playing old time red meat white boy racism. But guess what joe? We are ready to stomp the hell out of racism. I guess some of us aint so passionate.
September 9th, 2008 at 1:41 amYears ago, I learned that the expression "GOP operative" meant "hired criminal."
September 9th, 2008 at 1:49 amHmmm. There is still the fact that McSpin can't finish a sentence without forgetting how his campaign wants him to stand on a given issue and Ms. Palin is more Bat-scat crazy than Chimpy.
There is two months to attack them on these and other issues plus they have to keep talking which will, inevitably, produce more ammunition. And, oh yeah, Ms. Palin and Flippy Mcpin are pathological liars with vindictive streaks. They both have powerful enemies who have yet to be heard.
Those conditions can lead to an electoral advantage that would be all but impossible to overcome through fraud. And, if it's any comfort, the local conservative talk-show callers do not like, or trust, Ms. Palin and a few have openly declared she has moved them to Obama/Biden.
As surreal as U.S. politics has become, one has to try and move forward with the intention of getting the truth out. I've even engaged in a little civil disobedience myself. And I take every opportunity to urge people, on line and in person, to examine every single claim these jokers make.
Because? these two can not stand honest scrutiny. A two minute Google search on either one will disqualify them to any rational person. I am encouraged by the glaring flaws of the GOP/GOD ticket and refuse to believe this campaign is over. And it's way to early to think either side can't win, or steal, the election.
And as for the media, I haven't subscribed to cable in years and I won't until I can buy ala carte service without the Corporate News channels, "religious channels", or anything else I don't care to financially support. Blogs are a great place to start those boycotts.
[BOYCOTT!BOYCOTT!!BOYCOTT!!! If you hate Corporate News and want to do all you can to fix the American Press? Cancel cable.]
So, there you go, Joe. I've engaged in civil disobedience, called for a boycott of Corporate News, debunked the blatant lies of Politicians and their apologists and, tried to keep positive by commiserating with people on blogs. And that's just the past week. What have you done besides whine, on a blog, about people whining, on a blog?
September 9th, 2008 at 2:04 amBedtime for me.
G'night good people.

September 9th, 2008 at 5:30 amRove simply understands that most Republican supporters are frightened, ignorant, and easily manipulated by terrorizing them into thinking they are in danger.
If their base wasn't so gullible and cowardly, none of Rove's tactics would work.
September 9th, 2008 at 6:53 amI can't think of Rove as "medium sized". Just saying.
September 9th, 2008 at 7:27 amGame of Life, your proclamations don't make it so. Racism is the most effective tool used by the repugs to maintain control.
Getting poor, powerless folks to blame their problems on other poor, powerless folks (that happen to have different colored skin) keeps us from talking about what is really happening.
Rove is just doing what he is paid to do.
It is a big step when I realize that the poor service I get at walmart is not because of the "associates", but is the result of their business model and the folks that run the place.
September 9th, 2008 at 8:37 amblame dumb beotch pelosi and ried for not throwing his arse in jail.
September 9th, 2008 at 8:42 amOnce was a website called BUY BLUE, the tracked which corporations were underwriting chimpy and the criminal cabal.
They couldn't get any support from blogs - superblogs proclaimed it is not their job to support that type of coordinated economic actions.
So fine - come here and pound on your keyboard like it matters. In the meantime, mccain is closing the gap, at least according to the MSM.
Keep pounding on your keyboard, pete, send money to whomever you like, and pretend that you have just made a difference.
I am sure many here will not shop at walmart, applebees, home depot, staples, at&t, and the other corporations that the repugs dance with. But without a coordinated boycott, those corporations really don't care at all. They do not need any or our money individually.
If this isn't a plain enough statement of how to create change,
September 9th, 2008 at 8:43 amDoes anyone else ever wonder what a blog owned by Dr. Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. or Gandhi would look like?
Sure it would be more than analysis and snark. There would be calls for real action. They created real change.
Go ahead, flame me all you want - just makes my point.
September 9th, 2008 at 8:49 amWith all the lying they are doing, it is ovious he is involved.
September 9th, 2008 at 9:24 am“medium”-sized role
Nothing about Rove is "medium". He is a Big Fat Liar.
September 9th, 2008 at 9:46 amone reason Rove may be reluctant to admit his ties to the McCain campaign is the fact that he is also reported to be “developing outside groups” to help Republicans and John McCain in November. It is illegal for outside groups to coordinate with campaigns.
And we all know Tubby McTreason would never do anything illegal, right? :)~
September 9th, 2008 at 10:30 amIn fairness, would you want to admit you gave a large role in your campaign to THIS?
September 9th, 2008 at 11:51 am
