McCain camp wanted Schwarzenegger to tell McCain’s POW story so he wouldn’t mention ‘centrist politics.’

After California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) decided not to attend the Republican National Convention, the RNC replaced him with former senator Fred Thompson, who gave the speech originally intended for Schwarzenegger. The California governor told Der Spiegel that he was ordered to focus on McCain’s biography; that way, the campaign could prevent him from talking about “centrist policies”:

SCHWARZENEGGER: The speech I would have given is the one that Fred Thompson gave. I gave him my speech because I did not go to the convention. It was a great speech because it talked in minute detail about McCain’s torture and his being a POW, and that’s the speech that the party wanted me to give. Why? Because this way I don’t go and talk about centrist politics and maybe rub some people the wrong way. That’s another stage.

Though Schwarzenegger endorsed McCain, he has since criticized him, giving McCain’s climate plans a grade of “F.”

How is a corporatist, far right winger going to “fight special interests” in Washington? Is by defining anything noncorporate as a “special interest”?

Think this is too Alice in Wonderlandish? Remember what they did with torture with the POW’s support!

Fighting special interests = aiding corporations in McCon/Pullin lingo

  2. Leftside Annie says:

This crap really pisses me off. For all that he is a Republican, Arnold is much more moderate than this extreme rightwing crew…

But will he break with the Party and say so…? No, of course not. Party uber alles.

So, it turns out that the Terminator is just a big ol’ p*ssy after all.

  3. tarazan says:

And the speech finally was delivered by Arnold Thomspon

  4. Gregor Samsa says:

It seems to me the maverick in the Republican ranks is actually Schwarzenegger, not McCain.

He has turned out to be a lot less than the anti-science wacko I was afraid he would be.

Then again, Republicans have set the expectations so low that anything above a young earth creationist seems like a breath of fresh air…

  5. IBTunion4obama says:

The Republican base a.k.a the cowboy gun lovers, nascar hillbillies, and the old folks home wouldn’t want to hear about McCain’s record 8 years ago. In fact, they’d be pretty upset if they heard he has flip flopped on about single every issue.

  6. Above the Clouds says:

” . . . cowboy gun lovers, nascar hillbillies, and the old folks home” and Arnold Schwarzenegger?

  7. tarazan says:

And Guiliani speech was supposed to be delivered by Rush Limbaugh.

  8. Bob says:

‘Centurist policies’ Is that policies that give due credit to scientific fact? Too much empirical evidence? Not enough submittion to a ‘God factor’? The Anti-science league wouldn’t be pleased? They don’t want to be more moderate?

They’d rather mock the true Christians who help their fellow man through local communities. It’s evidently ok to rub those people the wrong way.

I think centrist politics is like staged wrestling.

After five DAYS he gave up his POW status and became a traitor and collaborator.

“and the 132 crewmen who were killed as a direct effect of his misjudgment and arrogance in mounting missiles which he’d been (and his pappy) warned would result in catastrophe. More about USS Forestal please.”

The disaster happened because the leading officers of the ship (not McCain) agreed to skip safety procedures and because old bomb types with fast cook-off were used.
That were the reasons for the initial accident and why it became such a big disaster.

Actually, Arnold wanted to tell the story of how he rescued John McCain from the Hanoi Hilton, but the studio didn’t want him giving away the plot of his next movie.
