During a recent interview with Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), Marie Claire magazine noted that McCain has run ads comparing Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) to Britney Spears and Paris Hilton and asked, “Which celebrity would like to be compared to?” McCain’s answer — Jack Bauer. When the magazine noted that Bauer “is a torturer,” McCain backed off: “That’s where Jack and I disagree.”
MC: You liken Obama to Britney in your famous ad, while portraying yourself as the more serious candidate. Which celebrity would you like to be compared to? Bob Dylan? Jack Nicholson?
McCAIN: Kiefer Sutherland. [laughs, imitates a voice from the show 24] “It’s Jack Bauer.” We have a lot in common because he escapes all the time.MC: Um, he’s also a torturer.
McCAIN: Yeah, that’s right. That’s where Jack and I disagree. He believes in torture, but I don’t. He says, “Tell me where the weapons are.” The person says, “I won’t.” Bam! “OK, I’ll tell.”
In fact, McCain does believe in torture. He voted against a bill that would have banned the CIA from using waterboarding — which is torture — and when the bill passed, McCain urged Bush to veto it, which he did. (HT: Huffington Post)
McSame only believes in torture if the North Vietnamese are doing the “enhanced interrogation.”
September 9th, 2008 at 5:52 pmSo McSame wants to be compared to a fictional TV nitwit? Well, I guess the shoe fits.
September 9th, 2008 at 5:52 pmah HAHA HAHAHA !!!
September 9th, 2008 at 5:52 pmWow, McCon bought the CIA/Pentagon drivel about rogue investigators wanting to be Jack Bauer.
Does that mean Sarah Palin is Lyndie England?
September 9th, 2008 at 5:54 pmFantasyland is the Repukes basis for “reality”.
Gotta love it.
September 9th, 2008 at 5:55 pmThis is too frickin’ hilarious to even formulate a post. I suppose Sarah fancies herself Lara Croft…
September 9th, 2008 at 5:55 pmneed to push the fact that
ACCORDING TO BUSHCO POLICY MCcon WAS NOT TORTURED.
he now has no story, no crutch, no standing.
September 9th, 2008 at 5:56 pmHe’d better get his ass over to CTI HQ ASAP, the director has a special assignment for him, going undercover in a nursing home rife with terrorists lurking in the day room.
September 9th, 2008 at 5:56 pmMcCain likens himself to Jack Bauer.
– - Uh huh, and Jack Bauer’s first wife was killed by his former lover. Face it, Johnny Mc, you’re Abe Simpson.
September 9th, 2008 at 5:58 pmHey John, Kiefer Sutherland is not really Jack Bauer. He just pretends to be a tough guy.
Wait, maybe you are like kiefer Sutherland after all.
September 9th, 2008 at 6:01 pmMcCAIN : We have a lot in common because he escapes all the time.
And when did you even attempt to do that against your VC captors , you delusional old moron ?
September 9th, 2008 at 6:01 pmOh fer the luvva Jebus!!
He’s more like Abe Vigoda, actually.
September 9th, 2008 at 6:02 pmlistening to the story about troop withdrawal IN FEBRUARY…
he won’t be CinC then, so will have no authority then…
i’d bet there is a plan to start another something, should the dems actually pull it off,
then, darn, the troops will have to stay longer, and, darn,
who gets the blame…
… if only…
September 9th, 2008 at 6:05 pmhey DogFather,
If you’re still on: they moved the McCain rally to the field next to the highschool. The McCain campaign said that it was due to “overwhelming response”.
They left out the fact that it was an overwhelming response for them to NOT do it at the school ;)
September 9th, 2008 at 6:06 pmAnd I thought McCon was Rocky’s Trainer, Mickey. Sarah Palin is a dead ringer for Adrian, as well.
The Rocky Entourage ticket, completely incapable of knocking Apollo Greed off K Street.
September 9th, 2008 at 6:06 pmHmmmm. Picturing a 100 year old Jack Bauer….
Maybe he can throw prunes at the terrorists.
Smack ‘em with his cane.
Chomp ‘em with his dentures.
Waterboard ‘em with the contents of his tooth glass.
HAHAHAHAH!!!
September 9th, 2008 at 6:08 pmDo you think he knows that Jack Bauer is fictional and not a celebrity? Oh good God …
September 9th, 2008 at 6:09 pmMcCain has a heroin problem?
September 9th, 2008 at 6:09 pmI liken John McDepends to Mr Magoo ………….
September 9th, 2008 at 6:11 pmMcCAIN: Yeah, that’s right. That’s where Jack and I disagree. He believes in torture, but I don’t. He says, “Tell me where the weapons are.” The person says, “I won’t.” Bam! “OK, I’ll tell.”
And yet, there is no information presented by McGrampy on how he is different from Jack Bauer.
**sigh**
September 9th, 2008 at 6:12 pmWhile driving through a typically “red” section of southern VA last week, I stopped by a CVS and noticed that they had McCain hats for sale. I was feeling somewhat confrontational and decided to ask the guy behind the counter what was up with them not having any Obama hats on display…
He said, “huh?” and looked really confused. Then he said, “Ohhhhhhhhhh, we used to have a whole bunch of ‘em, but we must have sold out because that’s all people are buyin’.”
September 9th, 2008 at 6:15 pmJohn McCain was against torture (when it was used on him) before he was for it (when it’s used on non-Americans) before he was both for it and against it.
September 9th, 2008 at 6:17 pmzooey @ 20, right on. noticed that too. if mccain wants to pretend he finds the torture aspect of 24 distasteful, maybe he shouldn’t talk like he likes it.
September 9th, 2008 at 6:24 pmI said it yesterday… I’ll say it again, today:
Palin is not Norma Rae, Jack Bauer is not a role model, ‘These Colors Don’t Run!’ is not a foreign policy… it’s time to stop pretending that we live in a comic book or a movie.
September 9th, 2008 at 6:28 pmThe funniest thing about this is even mentioning the possibility of Bob Dylan.
Give me a freaking break.
September 9th, 2008 at 6:30 pmIsn’ty Jack Bauer a loose cannon? A Screw the rules, I’ve got good reasons kind of guy?
How is this different from Cheney?
September 9th, 2008 at 6:31 pmI think he would have made a great supporting character on Green Acres, though. Or maybe Floyd the Barber or something.
September 9th, 2008 at 6:32 pmnow, now, give him credit for having a television — maybe it’s always “on,” so he doesn’t have to figure out that part himself — and for remembering a show’s character.
He coulda said “Dan-o,” as in “Book ‘em, Dan-o.” You know, about the same timeframe as ABBA?
September 9th, 2008 at 6:32 pmMcCAIN: Yeah, that’s right. That’s where Jack and I disagree. He believes in torture, but I don’t.
Excuse me you senile old fool. If you don’t believe in torture, then why did you vote against a bill banning torture.
Can someone please explain to me why Obama hasn’t exposed McBush for the fraud that he is? He should have a new ad out daily showing McBush’s flips on all major issues.
September 9th, 2008 at 6:34 pmWho’s pretending?
September 9th, 2008 at 6:36 pmDid you watch the conventions?
#666lattes Says:
He said, “huh?” and looked really confused. Then he said, “Ohhhhhhhhhh, we used to have a whole bunch of ‘em, but we must have sold out because that’s all people are buyin’.”
That’s priceless.
I was at the Obama headquarters yesterday and people came in for bumper stickers and yard signs. They were all out. They ran out days after the Palin pick. They also signed up 40 new volunteers in one week.
September 9th, 2008 at 6:38 pmI bet Jack Bauer knows how many houses he owns.
September 9th, 2008 at 6:41 pmAnd the mainstream so-called media says:
*yawn*
RIP

I hear Jack wants information from McCon:

September 9th, 2008 at 7:00 pm“McCain likens himself to Jack Bauer.”
lol
Come on… Jack Bauer? Grandpappy McSame is probably older than CTU. Gramps has been watching too many DVDs of “24.”
September 9th, 2008 at 7:23 pmJust WhoTF are the voters his handlers are targeting by telling him to say this silly shit? Are these the same idiots who decide to vote for a president based on whether or not they think the candidate wants to drink a shitty domestic beer with them in a dumpy local bar or worse yet Applebee’s?
September 9th, 2008 at 7:27 pmJack Bauer?
More like a Jack-in-the-box: no surprises, the same thing over and over, of interest only to the intellectually undeveloped.
September 9th, 2008 at 8:19 pmMcCrazy is becoming more delusional by the day!
His reasoning – Because he was tortured and he’s against torture except in extremely, extreme situations, like the kind of situations Jack Bauer is in. Torture is okay if the CIA wants to do it and the most grounded (less grandiose) reason – torture is okay if you are running for president.
He’s on this “I’ll fight for you” crazy kick. Can you image a demented, anger management issue-ridden, neo-con supported, Sarah Palin cheerleader President McCain. He’ll be an isolated grumpy, old, warmongering “evil doer” within a week.
September 9th, 2008 at 8:47 pmSomebody needs to tell the MSM, the GOP, and much of America that
Jack Bauer is a FICTIONAL character on a FICTIONAL show called 24. He is not a real person. He is portrayed by an ACTOR named Kiefer Sutherland, who is a LIBERAL.
September 9th, 2008 at 11:01 pmAlthough I sort of like the earlier suggestions of Abe Vigoda and Abe Simpson, Quincy sort of comes to mind as well. How come that guy couldn’t understand his job? He was paid to autopsy the bodies not solve the crimes. He was also an old dude that wanted to pretend he wasn’t an old dude by insisting on hanging out with younger women that remoraed off his carcass
September 9th, 2008 at 11:21 pmOliver Stone is gonna make a sequel to “W” called “McW with cheese”
September 10th, 2008 at 5:29 amI think of McCain as the computer of 2001: An Space Oddisey, HAL, with the memory cells OFF.
