In June, when Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin addressed the graduating class of commission students at her one-time church, Wasilla Assembly of God, she “painted the current war in Iraq as a messianic affair in which the United States could act out the will of the Lord.” “Pray for our military men and women who are striving to do what is right. Also, for this country, that our leaders, our national leaders, are sending [U.S. soldiers] out on a task that is from God,” said Palin. In a statement to the New York Sun yesterday, McCain campaign spokesman Michael Goldfarb endorsed Palin’s comments “100%“:
“This is an incredibly humble statement, a statement that this campaign stands by 100%, and a sentiment that any religious American will share — the hope that our country’s actions are indeed righteous,” a campaign spokesman, Michael Goldfarb, said.
That’s probably just what Hitler said too.
September 9th, 2008 at 3:05 pmBlargh, how scary. How long until they just call this a holy crusade of Christians vs. Muslims?
According to things posted on this site, that’s basically what the terrorists want to believe to begin with. Feeding into that is moronic.

September 9th, 2008 at 3:12 pmYup, God sure does like those no-bid contracts to mercenary forces who can murder at will with no repercussions. These people are Satanists and they don’t even know it. After all, he is the great deceiver, and for these people to worship a God that condones wars makes you wonder….
September 9th, 2008 at 3:13 pmi hate to say this, but i really, really believe that palin needs some serious therapy. i mean, she’s in this zone. she’s the type of person who believes in everything but what’s right in front of her. unicorns, too.

September 9th, 2008 at 3:16 pmFailin’ Palin, the Pentacostal Princess of Wasilla, and her sidekick, McNumbNuts, are the reincarnation of The Blues Brothers . . . they’re “on a mission from God”.
Of course, there’s one big difference. The Blues Brothers was a funny movie; PALIN/(mcnumbnuts) is a real-life horror story.
September 9th, 2008 at 3:17 pmI have a suggestion:
given that he ladies of Heart have requested that the McSame campaign stop using the song “Barracuda” to introduce Sarah Palin, and the have refused (as they have properly licensed the song for that purpose), perhaps the Wilson sisters could contribute to the Obama campaign by creating a commercial with Sarah ‘Cuda’s picture over the following passage from the song:
If the real thing dont do the trick
You better make up something quick
You gonna burn burn burn burn it to the wick
Ooooooh, barracuda?
Should solve that problem, no?
September 9th, 2008 at 3:18 pmI could not possibly have been more “incredibly humble” myself!
September 9th, 2008 at 3:19 pmThis is getting insaner by the minute. WTF is McCain trying to do to himself? Does he really want the Presidency so badly that he is willing to commit political suicide to obatin the position?
September 9th, 2008 at 3:19 pmMcCain campaign endorses Palin’s claim that the Iraq war is a task ‘from God.
This is a bit out there for some even in the stupid America crowd…will the media now keep McInsane out of the spotlight as they do with Palin?
September 9th, 2008 at 3:20 pm“…the hope that our country’s actions are indeed righteous,”
but that’s NOT what she said.
and he knows it… his bots don’t… stupid bots.
September 9th, 2008 at 3:22 pmThe task from God is to stop the war and hold those accountable that initiated it. God obviously wants Obama in the WH or it would have rained on him at the convention. Instead, the repubs ‘had to’ work around the ‘disaster’ that came during their week: bush addressed the crowd via satelite.
September 9th, 2008 at 3:23 pmCheck this out. The McPain [McCain and Palin]team wrote an Op-Ed in WSJ today. An Op-Ed! About what? Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae. Did Palin really write this Op-Ed with Grampa when she said that Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae are taxpayers funded company?
We’ll Protect Taxpayers
From More Bailouts
By JOHN MCCAIN and SARAH PALIN
September 9, 2008
The bailout of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac is another outrageous, but sadly necessary, step for these two institutions. Given the long-term mismanagement and flawed structure of these two companies, this was the only short-term alternative for ensuring that hard-working Americans have access to affordable mortgages during this difficult economic period.
We are strong advocates for the permanent reform of Fannie and Freddie. For years, Congress failed to act and it is deeply troubling that what we are now seeing is an exercise in crisis management rather than sound planning, and at great cost to taxpayers.
We promise the American people that our administration will be different. We have long records of standing up to special interests and providing the leadership to change government and make it more accountable to the American taxpayer. In our administration, every agency and department will undergo rigorous oversight and review. We will require the highest standards of accounting, reporting and transparency ever demanded in government.
Enduring reform of Fannie and Freddie is a key first step. We will make sure that they are permanently restructured and downsized, and no longer use taxpayer backing to serve lobbyists, management, boards and shareholders.
Okay, And this article ends with this:
Fannie and Freddie’s lobbyists succeeded and Congress failed. Under our administration this will not happen again.
In the first 100 days of our administration, we will look at every agency and department and expenditure of the federal government and ask this simple question: Is it serving the needs of the taxpayer? If it is not, we will reform it or shut it down, and we will spend money only on what is truly in the interest of the American people.
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122091995349512749.html?mod=opinion_main_commentaries
lol So, both Grampa and Palin will make sure this will never happen again. No talks about how they are going to fix this economy, healthcare, nor a concrete plan to how there will be no more another 8 years of Bush Administration agenda under their Administration. Once again, empty promises from two empty heads. I look forward to the debates.
September 9th, 2008 at 3:24 pmLemme get this straight — we invaded Iraq because they (supposedly) had WMDs. Turned out they didn’t. We invaded Iraq because they were responsible for 9/11. Ooops, that turned out to be a pack of lies brought forth by the fertile imaginations of Bushco. OK, OK — we invaded Iraq because Saddam Hussein was a really, really bad guy and we needed to remove him. Um…we did that and we’re still there.
Now for the latest reason we’re there — we’re there because it’s a task from God! They’re delusional if they really believe this and they’re delusional if they think WE’RE going to believe this.
I won’t even get into how blasphemous this position is…
September 9th, 2008 at 3:24 pmThe statement is not even the same as what she said. She did not say, “God protect our troops”. She said “a task that is from God”. The same thing as BUSH said. That is, “freeing” Iraq is a task that came from God.
September 9th, 2008 at 3:24 pmsatirev Says:
toasterhead: I love you! Here’s Palin’s church speech. It’s frightening and she’s dressed more like a witch than someone who should be addressing a commencement audience in a church. Freaky stuff.
September 9th, 2008 at 3:17 pm
_____
Thanks! It’s quite a frightening piece – and she’s done a bunch of church-hopping over the past few years.
Now that I’ve actually heard the Iraq war quote instead of just reading it, I have a different interpretation than before. It doesn’t seem to me that she’s calling the Iraq war a task from God, she’s telling people to pray that the soldiers – and the politicians who put the soldiers there – are indeed following God’s plan, whatever that may be.
It’s a bit more innocuous, but every bit as pretentious.
September 9th, 2008 at 3:25 pmAnd coming from someone who believes we’re in “end times,” one has to fear just a bit what Palin actually thinks “God’s plan” is.
McCon/Pullin “Jesus would bomb Iran” and we stand by that 100%!
September 9th, 2008 at 3:25 pmMcCain, “My friends, when I was a guest at the Hanoi Hilton it was tough. One day, I believe it was Labor Day, my captors took me to a room that we all dreaded being led to. It was the torture room. They would strap you to a wood chair and force you to listen over and over again to the same recording. I can hear that shrill voice to this day, my friends. The voice in the recording talked sheer nonsense. There was no substance to her speech, just repeated attacks on patriotic Americans and boasting about how, when offered money, money that was far above what was deserved by this mouthy religious zealot, she repeated in her nasal twang like nails on a chalkboard, ‘No thanks’. It was the repetition of this speech more than anything else, my friends that made me promise myself that if I ever got out of this hellhole, I’d marry the first millionaire beauty queen that came my way, disfigured wife be damned. Well my friends, I’m here to tell you today that with the help of the Green Bay Packers defensive line, we met the owner of that voice in a courtyard and she traced a cross across my chest with her manicured fingernail and at that moment in time, we were just two lying Republicans sharing a moment of feigned religious serenity. It was that day, my friends that I decided to join forces with this Republican puppet, the neocons, fundimentalists, lobbyists and corpororate leaders to bring a swift end to this once great nation’s economy, standing in the international community and preparedness of our military all in the name of sustained power for the Party that held me as an outsider all these years through continued lies and derision. My friends I am now the leader of the Party of Lies and War Propaganda, a shell of the maverick that I once aspired to be. And with the help of Karl Rove, a complicit media, voter caging techniques and reliance on low information voters I hope to one day…oops, I shat myself again. Sarah…!!!!

If they are truly (snicker) serious about this (giggle), might I suggest they start with some of our contractors hired by the State Department? I would LOVE to see some accountability and transparency with Blackwater, KBR, Halliburton, etc. — not to mention the agency that hired them. Unless, of course, any agency or any contractor working on “a task from God” is exempt.

September 9th, 2008 at 3:39 pmBy Palin’s reasoning, the vandalizing of the buses was God’s will because it enabled her son to go to war.
We’ll have to wait to see if it’s true because the ages of those involved weren’t published as they were minors.

Humble? Palin’s very obnoxious statement (not the campaign hack’s re-worked one) is about as humble as a muslim jihadist screaming “Allah Akbar!” while detonating his bomb in a public square. Palin’s religious war-mongering nuttery is plain revolting. Saying that going to war is “a task from God” ought to call into question Palin’s fitness for higher office, much less her fitness for humanity.

IRKUTSK, Russia (Reuters) – Russia said on Tuesday it regretted a decision by U.S. President George W. Bush to freeze a major bilateral civilian nuclear pact but said Moscow wanted nuclear cooperation with the United States to continue.
The United States said on Monday that Bush would withdraw the agreement — potentially worth billions of dollars in trade — from Congress. The move was widely seen as a penalty on Moscow for its actions in Georgia.
But officials in both Washington and Moscow said the step could ultimately save the agreement, possibly for a future U.S. administration, by preventing Congress from sinking the deal.

Palin Billed State for Nights Spent at Home
September 9th, 2008 at 4:40 pmMeanwhile, the Washington Post reports that Governor Palin has billed Alaskan taxpayers for 312 nights spent in her own home during her first nineteen months in office. Palin has charged “per diem” allowance intended to cover meals and incidental expenses while traveling on state business. The governor also has charged the state for travel expenses to take her children on official out-of-town missions. And her husband, Todd, has billed the state for expenses and a daily allowance for trips he makes on official business for his wife. Palin, who earns $125,000 a year, claimed and received nearly $17,000 as her allowance. The governor’s daughters and husband charged the state over $43,000 to travel, and many of the trips were between their house in Wasilla and Juneau, the capital city 600 miles away. A gubernatorial spokeswoman said Monday that Palin’s expenses are not unusual.
I’m so sick of these delusional people being given authority over rational people.
If you believe in a magic man in the sky, you have no business having power over anyone.
September 9th, 2008 at 4:44 pm“a task that is from God,”
“This is an incredibly humble statement”
I think they mean hubris not humble.
And, Palin, your god is weak and losing in Iraq. You’d think The Almighty might have won easily after 5 1/2 years!
September 9th, 2008 at 4:49 pmThe problem is that when a country behaves in a criminal manner, no amount of praying will serve to make their actions “righteous”.
If you want to Believe that “our country’s actions are, indeed, righteous”? STOP COMMITTING CRIMES AND THROW THE GUILTY IN PRISON!!!
September 9th, 2008 at 4:52 pmDid someone leave the door to the dumpster open? Seem like some crap just spewed in this thread. Not only that, but they have a typo that needs fixing:
Sarah has lied at LEAST 30 times (and it is still early).
September 9th, 2008 at 5:00 pmIf McCain wins I think we can all pretty much kiss this country goodbye. Oh, it will still be called the United Staes of America, but it will not BE the United States of America.
September 9th, 2008 at 5:03 pmSorry troll. She comes up with the lies all by herself. And there are way more than thirty of them. I have yet to see a statement from her that passes a smell test. And, to most of the world, claiming a direct line from God is proof of mental illness. I hope you are very happy pinning your hopes on a Buy-bull Bimbo. As for myself I prefer leaders who operate in the reality based universe.
September 9th, 2008 at 5:03 pmThis is getting a little ridiculous even for you, John Kerry Troll! My God, you are pathetic as you’re going through PANIC MODE!
September 9th, 2008 at 5:07 pmHey John Kerry, why did you take the name of someone who’s served our country honorably? Why are you such a blindfolded idiot?
September 9th, 2008 at 5:08 pmattempt to polish a pig that cannot be polished
Interesting mix of metaphors. Made me laugh.
September 9th, 2008 at 5:09 pmWhile we’re on the subject, did you all know that Ms. Palin writes letters, or at least one, that she attributes to God?
After Trig was born, Palin sent relatives and close friends a letter she wrote in the voice of God.
“I let Trig’s mom and dad find out before he was born that this little boy will truly be a gift,” Palin wrote, signing it “Trig’s Creator, Your Heavenly Father.”

September 9th, 2008 at 5:09 pmThe way that I have put it, satirev, is that she is so invested in her self-delusion that she can’t distinguish fact from fantasy. It’s entirely possible that she simply doesn’t Believe she’s lying.
If the info comes from a guy with a “Rev.” before his name, a guy with a (R) after his name, or the voices in her head, it actually becomes the truth in her tortured little brain.
September 9th, 2008 at 5:19 pmHe said, “Be careful that you are not deceived, because many will come in my name and say, ‘I AM’ and ‘The time has come.’ Don’t follow them.
September 9th, 2008 at 5:25 pmYes satirev, it’s frightening but, there’s a silver lining. McSpin and Palin are both unbalanced and believe self-constructed myths about themselves. While it makes them impervious to reasoned discussion, it makes it likely that one, or both, will melt down in a loud public display.
The Obama/Biden campaign has already started to brand them as liars. It would be a short leap to “insane” if either of them throw a froth-mouthed hissy-fit.
September 9th, 2008 at 5:28 pmIt’s hard to guess what the long-term reaction will be because, to the best of my knowledge no national candidate has ever been announced followed by two weeks of seclusion.
The only way I can see where it would be a net gain is if they actually have a list of questions so she “nails” the interview.
September 9th, 2008 at 5:34 pmOf course, if that’s the case, the whole thing gets shot down if we find they have had the questions since last Friday.
Damn it. I was sure Darryl would be here and all I got was the the drop and plop pussy John Kerry. I really wish D would give his groupies a heads up….
September 9th, 2008 at 6:03 pmsorry “Daryll”. Well atleast the proper spelling of Rapture Ready is easier to remember how to spell
September 9th, 2008 at 6:04 pm“McCain campaign endorses Palin’s claim that the Iraq war is a task ‘from God.’”
These people are really terrifying – they are as bad as any self-righteous religious terrorist anywhere- they think God loves only them, and any horrific violent action they approve against anyone else is justified “by God”. Lord help us, as they say. Americans must realize that McCain/Palin means war, killing, religious “crusades”, God & politics intertwined, and crazy, crazy radical evangelicals continuing to run the country through the pandering politicians. Haven’t you had enough of this garbage? Palin’s church believes that the U.S. will be destroyed & survivors will flock to Alaska as the final refuge & promised land. Does that sound sane?
September 9th, 2008 at 6:05 pmnothing about either of them is even remotely sane. The fact that they are running, rather than being locked up for treatment, is simply surreal.
September 9th, 2008 at 6:09 pmYES! This person, these people are TERRIFYING! If you were online yesterday and got into that chat with “RaptureReady” then you know what I’m talking about! That’s like Outer Limits weird..But make no mistake, they have a mission and an agenda…and half of America is still dizzy with delight over Sarah..the Alaskian wack job. We really have got to get the word out and talk about this…get out the vote, volunteer in any way you can…you can even volunteer from home. MyBarackObama.com Send money…lots:)I feel like this is a real Good vs Evil kind of fight we’re in..Forget the rights of this country, forget separation of church and state, they really have a frightening scenario planned. Help get our country back from these wacko’s..8 years of hell…don’t want 4 more. Can’t be complacent now…Every day counts. We already know how the Repugs don’t think the rules apply to them..Fight for the right thing. Peace.Fight on!
September 9th, 2008 at 6:19 pmsatirev…the tape you spoke about at the church is either on HuffPo,probably YouTube…it’s terribly frightening if you watch the whole thing…they do something with cell phones..and scream and babble.AHHHHH
September 9th, 2008 at 6:23 pmLurker…why do you even ALLOW FOX to be on in your home:)?
September 9th, 2008 at 6:34 pmOooo, Pete! Good thought! Who in the media would have the balls to check and see how early she got the questions though…my faith in the “bought and paid for” media is dwindling rapidly!Everyday, I new forgiveness…a new low. Must be nice to get a paycheck for not doing your job.
September 9th, 2008 at 6:38 pmYou got that right, desertflower. Forgive me for working, a bit, blue but I think I’ve discovered a new treatment for constipation. Just type in “Wasilla” on YouTube and? It’ll scare the crap out of you!
September 9th, 2008 at 6:42 pmPalin apparently thinks with a crusader’s mind.
Middle Eastern people are familiar with calls for wars from God looking back at their own history of 200 years of Crusaders wars.
Students in Middle Eastern schools are taught about these dark and bloody chapters of wars in their history, when
Crusaders ruled Syria,Lebanon and Palestine, when Crusaders invaded Turkey and Egypt.
Crusaders’castles and garrisons today are scattered all over Middle Eastern countries standing as a testimony to those bloody years.
After Crusaders ruled the area for over two centuries their final battle with Arab leader Saladin ended that era.
Some of these castles were built are huge and still standing until today, like Krak De Chevalier in Syria and others.
These castles are sought now by tourists.
Hundreds of thousands died in these wars, but the end came when united Arabs fought Crusaders in long bloody wars.
A millennium later and today, we hear the same words by Alaska’s governor Sarah Palin that ‘invading Iraq is a task from God’…that was exactly what sparked the Crusaders War…!!
September 9th, 2008 at 7:24 pmCrusaders went to war when Pope of Rome called on Christians and their leaders in Europe to fight the Moslem infidels then, in the name of God
The war turned bloody and it took 200 years before it finally ended.
It looks like nothing has changed in some extermists minds since Crusaders wars ended. We hear today of claim by leaders receiving orders for wars from heaven.
If this is what Sarah Palin believes in,then her qualifications for the job of VP and possibly the presidency itself is questionable.
There’s nothing “questionable” about Palin, tarazan. She’s a positive danger to the survival of our society. Get a load of this video and try to figure out why her church hasn’t been subjected to the scrutiny as Obama’s.

September 9th, 2008 at 7:32 pmAround 100,000 Iraqi’s dead and 4,155 U.S troops dead. I don’t think a ‘loving god’ would mandate such a thing.

Fortunately, the Christianity of Barack Obama and Joe Biden meets your definition of reality based.

Count Istvan Says:
Well they are now engaged in complete intercourse with the religious nutters of their party. Now it’s time to see if the economic conservatives will make good on their promise to leave the party if the social conservatives gained anymore control.
My guess is don’t bet on it. Social conservative Economic conservative neither one of them are real familiar with the truth.

______
Probably as many of them will follow through on that promise as did those who claimed they would leave the country if Bush served a second term.
September 9th, 2008 at 8:54 pmI guess their god works for them. Most of us pray that God’s will be done. The cons pray that god will do their dirty work.
September 9th, 2008 at 9:57 pmIn Germany Sen. Obama unsuspectingly was received by a large crowd.
I know these people are wondering why mcchimpy/plain? They must be shock with his flip-flopping and lies.
repugs are straight up idiots
September 10th, 2008 at 12:59 amSo let see. To al qeada, 9/11 was a task from God. Then Dubya hears voices too, says invading Iraq and killing tens of thousands is a task from God. I think I’m seeing a pattern here.
September 10th, 2008 at 8:34 ampakaal Says:
WTF is “humble” about professing to know what God’s will is, let alone saying an unjust war was God’s will?!
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
EXACTLY why is it that not very bright wingnuts always feel perfectly comfortable with telling us what GOD thinks? That is more like the OPPOSITE of humble
September 10th, 2008 at 11:56 amJohn Kerry Says:
Obviously no one in their right mind cares what WingnutJK says. But John you have always been a liar and a fool but now you are teetering on full blown dementia. For your own sake seek the help of a mental healt professional immediatly. Your stupidity may become terminal at any moment
September 10th, 2008 at 12:01 pmWhen a religion forces its beliefs on others who don’t wish it, it is no longer a religion–it’s TYRANNY. Pure and simple. True personal religious belief is not something that can be brought by coercion or law. It seems to me that this election is all about others trying to make inroads with their own religious ideals through government legislation.
September 13th, 2008 at 2:48 amAbortion and reproductive rights, sex education, God wants a pipeline or God wants a war, Creationism versus Evolution in the classroom, anti-gay rights legislation…
I wish the Republicans would quit trying to bonk us over the head with some version of “God’s will” all the time.
And did you hear Palin’s interview where she said she didn’t hesitate when offered the job? What sane person wouldn’t hesitate?
September 13th, 2008 at 2:51 amAs an Independent, I’m stunned McCain has sold his soul (and the nation) to the Rape-publican Lying Machine.
He endured Vietnamese torture but joined the ways of the corporate socialists.
When did McCain realize he was compromising his integrity for disgust? Was it when he betrayed his traditional family values for several extramarital affairs during his first marriage; when he called his second wife “the C word” in front of reporters; when he started lying about his stance on gay rights; when he lied about his stance on torture; when he wanted to rape the veterans from their hard-earned GI Bill?
Or was it when he started slandering Obama to distract the public from the issues?
Did he accidentally lose the trust of the public?
No, he worked 30 years to earn our distrust.
Vote Obama!
