Today at a rally with Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) in Ohio, Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK) once again repeated the lie that she opposed the infamous Bridge to Nowhere in Alaska:
You’re going to hear a lot about the abusive practice of earmarks in Congress from our good senator here. We championed, in Alaska, the reform of the old earmark process. I told Congress, “Thanks, but no thanks for that Bridge to Nowhere up in Alaska.” If our state wanted a bridge, we were going to build it ourselves.
Watch it:
ThinkProgress has been keeping track of how many times the McCain campaign is repeating this lie. Palin’s comments today bring the number to 23 times:

Awwwww, c’mon now, TP – show Princess Sarah some deference!!!
September 9th, 2008 at 11:25 amNow if we could only figure out a way to make the truth sound more appealing than lies we could finally elect slightly better people to public office.

Oh, and I thought McSame/Failin’ wasn’t about “bulldozing” anyone — I thought they were the original mavericks (or is it “mavrick” as the sign-holder in the illiterate RNC crowd spelled it last week) who wanted to work for all of us???

Do you think that Bush’s policies have been a success? McCain promises a continuation of the Bush policies. You treat it as though it’s a game. This is the future of our Country, idiot. McCain and Palin ARE Washington politics as usual. They are part of the problem, not the solution. She is becomming a national joke despite the GOP’s attempts at hiding her from the press.

September 9th, 2008 at 11:36 amThanks to Dogfather for the tip about the WSJ story.
Here’s how it opens:
Despite significant evidence to the contrary, the McCain campaign continues to assert that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin told the federal government “thanks but no thanks” to the now-famous bridge to an island in her home state.
and more:
But Gov. Palin’s claim comes with a serious caveat. She endorsed the multimillion dollar project during her gubernatorial race in 2006. And while she did take part in stopping the project after it became a national scandal, she did not return the federal money. She just allocated it elsewhere.
Rupert must be plenty pissed.

September 9th, 2008 at 11:39 amAIO, You would think as many times she has given the EXACT speech, she would no longer need notes—but she does. Keith Olberman said she never fired the chef either. And the plane did not sell on ebay. They sold it to one of her supporters at a loss. The plane had been used a lot to take prisoners to other states because Alaska has a lot more criminals than prisons.

I mean, it sounds like you are positively gleeful at the prospect of McCain and Palin “bulldozing” their way to victory. Is this joy of yours due to your somewhat bizarre need to “win”, or do you genuinely believe the country would be better off?
If it’s the latter, do enlighten us with some intelligent points about your view of the future of our country. If it’s the former, go slink off somewhere else. The grown-ups would like to talk without juvenile distractions.

September 9th, 2008 at 11:45 amI have to note yesterday, for any one who glossed over the two relevant posts, that I was a too harsh against Joe Biden. He indicated pretty well that he would make short work of her, something I didn’t acknowledge, and my frustration was projected onto Joe due to the fact the Sarah wasn’t returning any of his compliments. It’s the tactic of the enemy, to pit the forces of good against each other.
September 9th, 2008 at 11:46 amYou have to see a little light at the end of the tunnel when the Wall Street Journal is attacking Palin for her lies! They are totally off message and not just ignoring these lies.

September 9th, 2008 at 12:22 pmWSJ: “But Gov. Palin’s claim comes with a serious caveat. She endorsed the multimillion dollar project during her gubernatorial race in 2006. And while she did take part in stopping the project after it became a national scandal, she did not return the federal money. She just allocated it elsewhere.
The topics that Palin chose to raise are earmarks and waste of federal money and she then claims in general and specifically that she is against, implicitly ‘on principle’.
Her words are not equivocations that should be treated with caution but absolute lies. Lies, liar, lying and lied are words the MSM hasn’t used since the Reagan years.
Palin: “ If our State wanted a bridge, we were going to build it ourselves.”
“Our State”, as represented by Senator Young, DID want the bridge and wanted Federal tax dollars to build it. When those dollars weren’t forthcoming for the bridge, the bridge didn’t get built.
If they didn’t want the bridge they wouldn’t have asked for the money for it. If they did want the bridge, but didn’t want the federal money it would be nearing completion by now. construction by now.
If Palin is against earmarks she shouldn’t have accepted the money.
Palin is a serial LIAR, and despite the attempt at honesty in the WSJ article the ESY is still a serial DENIER: “Caveat” my ASS!

Let’s hope the media comes around and sees her for what she really is – an ambitious woman, in completely over her head.
September 9th, 2008 at 12:39 pmAt certain points in this campaign, I have questioned whether or not John McCain’s campaign is actually trying to lose. We interpret every move as an attempt to win, but some of the things this crew is up to – the craziness of it all, you have to think, “this can’t possibly be good for them!”
For instance, the Alaska/Russia proximity argument. That can’t possibly be considered legitimate, right? So, when they use it it seems to be a Red Flag – ‘look how ridiculous this pick is and how much more ridiculous our argument for defending it is’
Are there Americans that live in N. Dakota saying to themselves: Hey, yeah, I interact with so many Canadians on a daily basis that I could be trusted with the keys to the White House on matters dealing with Canada!
I don’t think there would be. I, like Obama, have faith in the American people. But the boldness of re-re-re-re(you get it)repeating a lie is to much for me to comprehend. It screams: YOU CAN”T TRUST US!
Is that the message they are trying to send?
September 9th, 2008 at 12:49 pmYou are going to hear that lie repeated because Sarah Palin is repeating the same stump speech over and over and over again. They are the ones who are not afraid of Sarah Barracuda’s vengeance because blogs allow you to be anonymous. I read somewhere yesterday, I forget where, that the press is having a hell of a time in Wasilla because most residents refuse to talk to them because they are afraid of Palin. That’s really sad.
September 9th, 2008 at 12:56 pmSure Gov Palin it turns out out right lied to America in her first national appearance to Americans. Then repeated those lies. Had McCain’s campaign surrogates continue the lies and of course McCain himself repeating the lies.
Bush proved openly that if you repeat lies over and over enough, people will believe them.
Especially the religious right. Once they believe she is sent by GOD himself for McCain’s campaign. there will be NO convincing them of anything but that of their pastures and McCain and Palin say.
Palin will be able to tell them the Moon does not exist. That is what they will believe. The blinders to reality will be on.
Have a campaign offense or defense for this?
Fight fire with fire, God with God, pastor with pastor?
I need to hear Palin ask some questions of her faith and how that transforms into her serving VP. If she believes in the end of times and such. Then if she has the opportunity, would she nurture armegedon along ?
Is it her religion that she bases her ban on abortion?
We all heard of legislating from the bench.
Will she legislate from the pulpit?
