Reid boots Lieberman from party lunches. (Updated)

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) has told Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) that he “can no longer attend Democrats’ weekly caucus lunches or the biweekly chairmen’s lunches used to formulate policy.” While Lieberman has been voluntarily skipping the lunches for weeks, the latest move “essentially formalizes a deal Reid and Lieberman had cut earlier this year under which Lieberman would not attend meetings that included discussions of sensitive campaign or political issues.”

Update "I think it's probably wise for me and for my colleagues in the Democratic caucus to dine somewhere else for the next few weeks," Lieberman said in an interview with The Hill.
Update GovExec reports that Lieberman was "virtually shunned by other Democrats when he returned to the Senate Monday."
Update Reid spokesman Jim Manley is disputing the reports:
While it is no secret that the Democratic caucus is disappointed in Senator Lieberman’s attacks on Senator Obama, the irresponsible report that Senator Lieberman has been excluded from caucus meetings is completely untrue. Senator Lieberman has chosen to not attend Democratic caucus lunches, and that is his choice.

  1. The Republic of Stupidity says:

Joe’s shelf life as a power broker is rapidly expiring. After Nov 4, he’s gonna be left on the curbside. Toooooo bad, Joey…

  2. spencers mom says:

That’s great, but too bad so many of these Dining Dems weren’t willing to help kick Lieberman out of the senate in 2006.

Too little, too late, too typical.

    PEACE

    .

    Joe Lieberman (I-Israel)

    corrected!

  4. Badmoodman says:

Lieberman retorted, “Thanks, but no thanks for that lunch. If I had wanted a lunch I’d have made it myself.”

  5. ralph the wonder llama says:

It’s a baby step, Harry. But good for you. Just be sure to grab on to the sofa so you don’t fall down and go boom.

It has just struck me that I have a new, really petty reason for supporting an Obama victory in November.

If McSame wins, he’ll install LIEberman in his cabinet and Holy Joe will avoid the disgrace of being stripped of his seniority.

    That would suck.

  6. Uncle Ho says:

It’s about damn time. Long overdue.

  7. citizen_pain says:

LIEberman is an AIPAC stooge and a Mossad mole. On top of that, he sounds like Kermit the Frog.

Where’s Miss Piggy when you need her for a little a55 kicking?

  8. Leftside Annie says:

This is only the beginning, Traitor Joe!!

  9. ralph the wonder llama says:

Maybe Holy Joe can lunch with Sarah Palin and she can expense it to the state of Alaska.

Ralph, if McStain wins, Lieberman will be his Secretary of State, and that should scare the shiite out of everyone.

    PEACE

    Tracy__5 Says:
Yes, I am sure Liberman is very disappointed.

Good one, Trace. You musta spent a while comin’ up with that.

Take a break. You’ve earned it!

  12. S.D. says:

    Yeah! That’ll show him!!!

So, when does he get stripped of his committee seats?

  13. Game of Life says:

he should have been booted when he ran as an Independent against a dem. This is how he got the Sunnis and Shia names straight.

He shouldn’t be at any dem function.

    The old prune.

  14. ScaryBrownHusseinChick (ThinkOutsideTheBush) says:

Let that be a lesson to Mossad mole Joey… the conservatives will use you and then dump you by the side of the road. They don’t see you as one of them.

  15. rastaman says:

PATHETIC, WEAK AND WAAAAAAY OVERDUE…..JUST LIKE REID.

GET THAT IDIOT OUT OF THERE

  16. ralph the wonder llama says:

GovExec reports that Lieberman was “virtually shunned by other Democrats when he returned to the Senate Monday.

Condi Rice observed, “No one could have predicted that.”

  17. MysteriousTraveller says:

    What took them so long?

  18. muzz says:

oooo – that’ll show him! What a joke. The dems in congress are a bunch of wimps, and you watch, this election is going to be lost. I’ve had it – even Barack is either too stubborn or stupid to really go after mccain – it’s ridiculous.

  19. Roket says:

Joe may have some slim hope of being a member of a McCain Cabinet, but that too will be short lived when Johnny kicks the bucket and Sarah become the Supreme Leader. She won’t stand for no stinking Jew in her Theocratic Cabinet, that’s for sure.

  20. jpopphan says:

Lieberman SHOULD be shunned by each and every Democrat in the Senate, the House and all across America. He is a traitor to our party and to the values we share. He has sold his soul to the dark forces of Bush/Cheney/Rove neoconservatism. He is a DINO: a Democrat In Name Only. I look forward to his removal from Senate chairmanships and wait for the day when Lieberman will make his treason complete and will officially join the GOP.

  21. shoeless says:

Gee, boot the Republican mole out of your strategy sessions. There’s an idea.

  22. Doc Rock says:

If you don’t get it, you don’t get it! Joe just does not get it.

  23. Bushie says:

Reid backtracked; all is well, Joe is welcome, Joe will retain his chairmanship. Does Reid wear rear view mirrors to enable his constant backtracking? With the exception of Kennedy and Feingold, the Senate is populated with DINO’s, a one party government. Of, by and for the Corporation.

  24. backup says:

This makes sense: Liebermann is supporting McCain.

  25. Bobwurst says:

I bet Obama is real happy he stumped for liebermann.

  26. kasinca says:

Actually, someone should take Holy Joe out back and slap some sense into his phony ass.

  27. irishdave3 says:

Maybe JoeZell Liebermann could get a “per diem” payment for his lunches or is that only in Alaska?

  28. irishdave3 says:

So does this mean the Mormon Reid is an Anti-Semite?
