McCain ‘Lipstick’ ad pulled from YouTube due to possible copyright violation.

Sen. John McCain’s (R-AZ) new web ad entitled “Lipstick” was pulled from YouTube earlier today due to a “copyright claim by CBS Interactive Inc.” The ad used a photo and a video clip of CBS News anchor Katie Couric. Attempting to view the ad on YouTube produces the following message:

mccaincopyright.jpg

This is at least the sixth time the McCain campaign has been the subject of a copyright complaint.

Apparently the way you get around YouTube’s restriction’s is to overlay the words “evaluation copy” on your video. Or maybe follow it with a review or declare it is a parody, both of which qualify it as fair use.

  16. The Dogfather says:

The facsinating thing about this is THEY DON’T CARE! The McSame campaign got a cease-and-desist letter last week from attorneys for the rock group Heart, demanding that McSame/Miss Piggy stop using Heart’s song “Barracuda” at their campaign rallies. Of course, they promptly ignored that letter, and used the song again as recently as yesterday.

As someone who works in intellectual property law, this brazen theft of someone else’s property by McSame and Miss Piggy raises the outrage in me even more than just their usual antics do — particularly since, after they were told to stop, they kept on misappropriating Heart’s property and using it without permission.

Fritz has it right — McSame and Miss Piggy aren’t only liars, they’re also thiefs. I sure hope Heart decides to “Even it Up” with these losers…

It seems to be an objective take of what happened.

  26. Shayne says:

McCain has a new ad showing hungry wolves and implying they’re like Obama’s investigators in Alaska. Interesting since she’s put a bounty for the aerial killing of Alaska’s wolves for reasons that scientist say are totally fictitious. She claims they eat the wildlife and the citizens and hunters will suffer.

It seems they now have license to use the song “Barracuda”, for which they are paying fees to ASCAP.

However, in an interesting twist, money they pay to use the song will be going to help the Democrats…

I don’t suppose McCain has any plans to run an ad that explains why he would be a good president? Heck, McCain isn’t even running any ads explaining why Obama would be a bad one. All he’s got is false attacks on Obama’s record, taking things Obama says and does out of context, and playing the victim card.

Will America fall for it? Sadly, some will. Let’s just hope most won’t.

  43. ralph the wonder llama says:

missmolly, I believe you’re right about “Barracuda” — the McSam campaign has licensed it for public airing.

I suggested yesterday that a nice twist that the Wilson sisters might consider is to permit its use in an Obama commercial, making fun of “Sarah ‘Cuda”, particularly with the following lyric:

If the real thing dont do the trick
You better make up something quick
You gonna burn burn burn burn it to the wick
    Ooooooh, barracuda?

Should dovetail nicely with the media’ awakening to all of the Governor’s falsehoods on the campaign trail.

    Double standard… in whose favor?

First of all Obama being the classy intelligent person he is, is one of the very few that does not engage in name calling. He does not need to.

Second of all, the ad was pulled so the progressives could not go back and remind the world McCain uses the term lipstick on a pig.

    ___________________________________________________________

OK, pay attention now. I’ll explain this slowly and carefully for you.

Obama didn’t call Sarah Palin a pig, despite what you’ve read in today’s GOP Talking Points for Trolls. He was criticizing McCain’s proposed policies and comparing them to Bush’s. Palin wasn’t even the subject of what Obama was talking about.

The idiom he used — “lipstick on a pig” — has been around far longer than Palin has been on the national scene. McCain himself has used it when criticizing Hillary Clinton’s health care plan. McCain’s former press secretary even wrote a book with the phrase in the title.

I suppose if any Democrat dares to use any other idiom, such as “that dog won’t hunt anymore”, will the McCain campaign attempt to spin that as an insult to Palin? Palin is NOT the center of the universe, despite what you may think, and sometimes people will say things that have absolutely nothing to do with her.

Oh, and when Obama made his remark about old fish stinking, he wasn’t referring to McCain’s personal hygiene, he was talking about McCain’s attempt to recycle Bush’s old failed policies as something fresh and new.

You’re really clutching at straws here. It’s sad to watch.

  59. StratRat says:

The rich GET more out of our economic system they SHOULD pay more. I use the highway system to get to work HL Hunt used them to become a billionare for his trucking system. I use the education system for MY and my daughters education business uses them to support their workforce. A whole lot of our economy is public cost turned to private profit and though it is illegal for the poor to sleep under a bridge or on a park bench if Donald Trump gets drunk and lost the Coast Guard tows his yacht in for free.

It’s as predictable as the tides.

  80. had enough says:

Tracy… you said taxes was the reason you are for McCain. Unless your income is $200K or more, under an Obama ticket your taxes will be cut. Also, Obama wants to strengthen social Security by raising the cap from 90K… if one makes 200K a year now they only pay SS for a 90K income.
So, still I do not understand why one would support McCain unless they are believing his lies.

  81. barfly says:

  88. barfly says:

No, like Obama saying $250 is the threshold. I think that’s his number. McCain was to toungue in cheek when he said $5 million.

    Wrong.

Obama stated that the government considers those in the $45,000-80,000 range – unless you can post a quote that proves your assertion?

  89. barfly says:

Why are you so concerned about typos and not the essence of the post?

That you’re so gosh-danged smart, that you could recite words someone would have to look up?

    That essence?

    Riiight.

  90. barfly says:

Couple of hours? Unless your attention span isn’t that long.

Do your research, and get back to me. I’ll be buzzing around…

  91. barfly says:

No, that you would be soooooo concerned about someone misspelling a word.

Actually, I was merely commenting on the tendency of critical people to neglect their own work. I said it was a law of the internet – meaning applicable to all (including me).

  92. barfly says:

From the WSJ, regarding McCain’s plan:

Mr. McCain’s plan will significantly ease the tax burden on American families with children by doubling the personal exemption to $7,000 from $3,500. This means a larger percentage tax reduction for families with smaller taxable incomes, and specifically helps families in the middle income levels. And a President McCain will enable people to keep more of their earnings by preventing Congress from raising tax rates.

So, gay couples, singles, and older workers would see no benefit.

And exactly how would he be able to to that, with a veto-proof House and Senate?

  93. barfly says:

Mr. McCain’s plan will significantly ease the tax burden on American families with children by doubling the personal exemption to $7,000 from $3,500.

So, no relief for the above-mentioned – but a doubling of the personal exemption for the wealthiest families in the country.

  94. dbadass says:

#87 makes no sense. Might you explain this Tracy_5?

  95. dbadass says:
