27 And Counting: Palin Repeats Bridge To Nowhere Lie At Virginia Rally

Today at a rally with Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) in Virginia, Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK) once again repeated the lie that she opposed the infamous Bridge to Nowhere in Alaska:

I championed earmark reform also to help Congress stop wasting money on those things that do not serve the public interest. I told Congress, “Thanks, but no thanks for that Bridge to Nowhere in Alaska.” If we wanted that bridge, we’d build it ourselves.

Watch it:

ThinkProgress has been keeping track of how many times the McCain campaign is repeating this lie. Palin’s comments today bring the number to 27 lies:

    Can we say “pathological” liar?

    Just saying . . .

  2. Buckie Boy says:

She is going for the record, “Most lies in a Political Campaign”

    She’s No.1, She’s No.1, She’s No.1, She’s No.1.

  3. leftcoast says:

You could hear several groans from the crowd at the Fairfax rally as she repeated her worn and tired line.

    ThinkProgress has been keeping track…

it needs to be on the teevee…
it doesn’t happen if it’s not on the teevee…

  5. stateofthedivision says:

It’s a line in a script with a scroll like list of McCon/Pullin lies. Get used to it, more are coming…

  6. Michael Lafferty says:

Wow. Disciplined and ‘on message.’ Repeating the same old, tired lies—er, memorized campaign talking points—over and over again.

You have to wonder how even the campaign staff can hope positive something sticks for her, rather than something negative to her, as this sort of thing surely will. Is this really all the substance they have? Lies, and more lies?

  7. Del Capslock says:

Obama needs to start suggesting publicly that McCain is being emasculated by Palin. I’m sure McCain is already pretty unhappy with his relegation to the bottom of the ticket, by both his campaign and the media.

  8. nanlichi says:

This has to be a Mythbusters episode, how many times do you have to repeat a lie to catapult the propoganda?

Is it 25? 30? 50? Stay tuned, because sooner or later the sheeple will come around to Sarah’s way of thinking.

  9. Uncle Ho says:

katy; It WAS on tv. Last night. I saw it. Both NBC & CBS evening news pointed out a fact check about it. Both showed her claim, then reported the fact that she did not tell the whole story about it.

  10. Bobwurst says:

You’re right Katy. But it can start here and worm it’s way to “respectable” websites (Politico seems to be in favor with the village these days) and from there onto the TV.

  11. RUCerious says:

We need to make a shitload of signs with tear away covers to get past security. The sign should have her quote supporting it in large bold letters. As soon as she makes the remark, the holder tears away the McIIIrd/Palin 08 cover and exposes the truth…before he/she is shackled and dragged away…

  12. misshusseinmolly says:

We seem to be averaging four times a day on this lie. There are 55 days between now and election day, and at the rate she’s going, she will have told this lie 220 more times, for a total of 247.

Karl Rove and Dick Cheney have always believed that if you tell a lie often enough, people will believe it’s true. Will 247 times do it?

  13. Mark @ News Corpse says:

Have you seen The Palin Watch? It’s a widget that is counting up the elapsed time from Palin’s announcement to her meeting with reporters. So far, it’s 12 days, 9 hours, and counting…

  14. Fritz says:

    These people have no honor.

They are all worthless lying scum.

  15. galmud says:

Palin opposed the bridge to Nowhere. Obama called Palin a pig. And McCain will bring change to Washington

  16. LividLib says:

  17. Crusty Old Bastard says:

She will continue to lie as long as the teleprompter continues the same old speech. She is not allowed to say anything that is not scripted for her. It would be interesting if someone could substitute one of Obama’s speeches on her teleprompter. I doubt that she would know the difference and I know that the Repukes wouldn’t know because they don.t listen, they just leer and drool like McImpotent.

  18. McWars says:

Palin is too sure of herself to watch the news. She has her views ready to force on the rest of the country and will never change her tone.

TP is doing a great job compiling the information necessary to stop the Vain-Pale ticket.

  19. Rich says:

This should be turned around in a video wityh “thanks but no thanks” as the punchline. I’d do it but but I suck at making them.

4 more years of failed economy?
Cut to Palin: Thanks but no thanks.

4 more years of disastrous foreign policy?
Cut to Palin: Thanks but no thanks

4 more years of energy dependence?
Cut to Palin: Thanks but no thanks.

And on and on. Turn her statement into a mockery of itself.

  20. stateofthedivision says:

Did you see McCon prompt the crowd as to when to applaud? It’s an indication this line is already old.

  21. raynman says:

Obama has an association with a pastor who makes controversial statements.

Palin outright lies about her record.

While both get mentioned by the mainstream media, one becomes a ‘manufactured’ controversy that last for weeks, and one is mentioned as an ‘aside’ that is quickly buried by other news.

I’m telling you, my friends, this race isn’t just about defeating McCain/Palin, its about defeating the corporate media as well.

  22. The Republic of Stupidity says:

This means one of two things, or perhaps both…

    1. McPalin thinks this line is working… and/or…

    2. They know they’ve got NOTHIN’ else – zippo, nada, bubkiss – to go w/.

Gonna be stale, stale bread by Nov 4…

While I agree that the troll is a moron (which is an oxymoron anyway), there is a ring of truth into what was said.

Until these things get airplay on the national media, then we’re just preaching to the converted. This is why its essential that the grassroots have to fight the corporate media’s incredible collusion with the GOP.

  34. Mr. Evil says:

For all her faults, corruption and lies, its working. The latest polls have McCain ahead or in a virtual tie with Obama. How can a republican in the state of our country today, caused by republicans, be doing so well? Strategy and well constructed and repeated lies. The Bush presidency proves that this works wonderfully. It also proves how superficial and conditioned the American people are. The Palin choice of McCain is working perfectly. At least for now. I imagine the rest of the world are wondering just how big a bunch of saps we really are.

  35. spencers mom says:

The scarier point is that Palin/McStain are demonstrating every day that facts and telling the truth do not matter to them.

Now take that ideology into the realm of international relations. With McStain’s finger on the Big Button.

Facts won’t matter. They’ll do whatever, whenever and to whomever they want.

  40. stateofthedivision says:

CNN just ran a piece showing how the internet is spreading false information about Palin. The piece:

    1. Shared a fake quote about dinosaurs, oil, Satan and God
    2. Denied she wants Creationism taught in schools (saying she wants both Evolution & ID to be covered)
    3. Said she hadn’t banned books, and her moves in that direction didn’t go very far.

It was a prop up Palin piece, not challenging any of her assertions or her record.

On the Chris Matthews clip, where he’s got her saying it 7 times, she not only uses the same phrasing, she uses the same hand gesture — shoulder-high, as if signaling “stop” — and the only variation I can see is that sometimes she uses the left hand instead of the right.

It’s actually a bit eerie. She’s kind of the Stepford Candidate of the extreme Right.

Hillary should stand up and say that Palin’s not fit to be the local librarian (she’s not)!
This lipstick pig is pissing me off. Let’s tear her a new one!

He voted at all in 2008????

  95. kasinca says:

Without lies they have to talk about McSame and Bush being just alike and the fact McSame voted with Bush over 90% of the time and it being documented on tape and can be played over and over and over with McSame bragging about voting with Bush more than anyone else. Who wouldn’t lie to keep the truth from being discussed. McSame = Bush on steroids.

What’s the *%$^(ing purpose of this exercise anyway????
To keep counting the number of times she lies and then
announce it after Obama loses the election? “Sarah
Palin repeated the same lie 157 times…” Is that the
    idea?

Make it into an ad that says : “SARAH PALIN IS A LIAR!!!”
    for Heaven’s sake!

Or else, are we just content with counting (and being
    “nice” losers in elections)?!

    SHEESH!

  99. the Lone Voice of Reason says:

If I had lower standards then I would use the “Whore of Babylon” approach in reference to Palin. I just can’t bring myself to that low. However if someone else would like to try that tact then who am I to say against. However, I might rise to the bait if the Republicans continue to infuse the issue of religion into politics.

This is another example that the “old world jounalism of Murrow, Cronkite and Rather is dead and buried. In the case of the Time Magazine reporter Ms Tumulty, she seems to think the finding out the who, what, where, when and how have been replaced with a steno pad, which she records what ABC said in rebuttle to the complaint of Congressman Kucinich. There is a great disconnect with what happened and the points made by ABC. She asks little of no questions to ABC. She takes what is handed to her and repeats it vebatim and then calls that reporting. I call is stenography. Lida Sohbet sohbet sesli chat Gelinlik Modelleri

If you’re referring to Karl Schwarz’ articles, if they are true, how will we ever know unless the news media gets involved without bias? The military under orders not to speak out may never convey Karl Scharz’ expose’. Sesli Sohbet If Cheney was truly involved in 9/11 and protected in some way, then he’s being protected by what may be going on in the Caspian Sea area as well. That pre-9/11 August 10, 2000 article drives the point home to me that Cheney had a vested interest in the oil at the Caspian Sea area (before 9/11). Fx15 From all I’ve read in Schwarz’ articles, he claims the Taliban was working on a deal with Argentina with that pipeline in the Caspian Sea area and UNOCOL wanted the deal instead. Orjinal Lida It’s too much to get into here and I’m not able to convey in here what Schwarz has presented in his articles. Sikis Dig into Schwarz’ articles to learn more about the unnamed soldier’s experiences related to so-called Black Ops missions in the Caspian Sea area in Schwarz’ article. What Schwarz had to present in this article is an eye opener: kurtlar vadisi pusu izle
