Official increased employee’s ‘performance award’ for providing him with cocaine.

Part of the “culture of substance abuse and promiscuity” at the Denver Minerals Management Service involved employees illegally taking drugs, often while at the office. According to the new Interior Department Inspector General’s report, Gregory Smith, Program Director of the Royalty in Kind Program, referred to cocaine as “office supplies” and rewarded his employees for obtaining it for him:

One of Smith’s subordinates also revealed that in late 2004, Smith repeatedly called her looking for cocaine — even though she had already given some to him earlier in the day. Eventually, he showed up to her house where he “obtained crystal methamphetamine” and the two “engaged in oral sex.”

Update Marcy Wheeler takes a look at the sexual assault perpetrated by Smith.

Gives a new dimension to Government Service; a new GS level perhaps. Call the Human Resources Secretary for a designation of Chief Giver of Head or per chance Blow? (either definition). Definitely not our old bureaucracy. Bush can relate!

Who cares! Seriously it doesn’t effect my life. This will stay here in the echo chamber and gain no traction. This is all really funny.

“Power tends to corrupt; absolute power corrupts absolutely.”

So said Lord John Emerich Edward Dalberg-Acton, who may have as well been describing the the results of deregulation, of cronyism and of ideologically-driven hiring decisions.

A Republican construct, the legacy of the Bush administration, and the outcome of another four years of Bush/Cheney—er, McCain/Palin. These people must be stopped. Absolutely must.

    From the linked article:

“Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne, who was asked about the reports earlier in the day before they were given to him and congressional offices, said the investigation was prompted by a 2006 phone call from anemployee who said there were ethical lapses in the Denver office.”

Excuse me…a whistleblower call two years ago?? Why did it take so long? Also, why did the Justice Department decide not to prosecute two of the key people involved in this?

Gives a whole new angle to the ‘Hookers and Blow’ at the convention. ‘It’s funny cause it’s true’ is supposed to be a joke. What does anyone expect at this point, Bible studies on gov’t time? A high-level child porn ring would not surprise me in the least.

Folks, this is what happens when the party who hates government, ends up running it.

Gee! Ya think that maybe this is a demonstration of what happens when you put ignorant, immoral, sh!t kickers in charge of a river of money?

I gotta say I’m laughing too hard to even be seriously outraged. These guys … you gotta love ‘em. The Bush administration is really doing a great job of restoring integrity to the government. When they aren’t soliciting sex in men’s rooms, visiting prostitutes, or enticing children to have sex with them, they’re selling cocaine and trading commodities contracts for sexual favors.

I met him backstage once, after he “claimed” to stop smoking tough.

The hallway leading to catering went right by his dressing room which smelled AMAZING.

Nothing but the best hydro for him. But like most serious drug users, I wouldn’t bet against his occasional ride down the white line highway.

Take it from me, where there’s high-dollar smoke, the coke ain’t far behind.

Government employee evaluations are a joke any way–supervisors give higher evaluations to employees they wish to support for promotion, so rarely does a newly promoted employee get a top evaluation. The quality of performance is almost never a real factor in evaluations.
