heh didn't see the post before me. Good point with palin though. It's one thing to have faith in a religion, but to say it's gods plan and weave that into politics and then impose your belief on millions of other people that don't share that same view is not fair, but I guess that's describing politics in general.

Although I'm a catholic by birth, I'd like to point out the fact that (radical) Christians crusades these same Muslim people centuries ago. <b>We should never take current events out of context of history.</b>

Those Christians are the ones to be afraid of. The Crusaders killed more people than the Muslims have and probably ever will. I'm scared of Sarah Palin and her thinking that "Iraq war was a task from God." We should be fearing nutcases like those people that could launch us into another unjust, trillion dollar war.

Tou know, Jesus said exactly what he would do when he came back. he would sit there, and everybody would come up to him, and he'd say,"What did you do for the poor? Did you give shelter to strangers, did you visit the afflicted?"
And these believers will say "Why, uh, no, Lord, that's socialism!"
And he'll send them to hell.
It's right there in Mattheww 21. And it's not by Saint Paul, or some church father.
It's the word of God, according to these people, and they insult it every day of their lives.
They slide right over the sermon on the mount to some brutal passage in the old testament, and say "The Bahhhble says..."
The Bible says if a man ask you for your shirt, give him your coat as well. Give up all that you have and follow me. The Bible says it is the people that have nothing are those who are the beloved of God. The bible says the man of the wrong religion who helps pick a man out of a ditch is doing God's work.
What have you done for the poor, Mr. Baxley?

Gee, sorry I forgot to blame Israel for 9/11.

I wasn't talking about all of the factors that entered into the decision to attack the U.S. that day; I was talking about the one factor that could lead people to murder innocent civilians (and to kill themselves in the process). Political grievances don't lead people to do indefensible things like killing innocent civilians by the thousands. Hatred does. Religious intolerance does. Bigotry does.

Do you seriously believe Osama bin Laden could have recruited people to conduct suicide missions <i>without</i> the religious angle? Bin Laden and his generals may have been motivated by "secular" political concerns (at least in part) ... but you'll notice they're still alive. They're not the ones strapping on the C4 or piloting planes into buildings. And they're political objectives don't provide sufficient motivation for people to sacrifice their own lives; but religion (and religious intolerance) does. So they preach hatred and intolerance in order to give their followers something to die for.

The point being, this jerk Baxley, who's a religious bigot in his own right, is contributing to an atmosphere of bigotry which leads to the kinds of things that happened on 9/11. You can't fight bigotry with bigotry. That's the damn point.

But next time, I'll be sure to blame Israel.

The bible scriptures that those on the right seem to forget:

"Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called the children of God" ~ Matthew 5:9

"The righteous is concerned for the rights of the poor, the wicked does not understand such concern" ~ Proverbs 29:7

"Put your sword back in its place," Jesus said to him, "for all who draw the sword will die by the sword." ~ Matthew 26:52

Now instead of just worrying about terrorists, we have to also worry about Christian like this guy. These people are terrorists too. They hate people based on stupid bullzhit they make up. I guess they think that they will be greeted in 16 virgins in heavan if they attack innocent people and call them names. And I'm sure they think it's approved by God for them to hate blacks, hispanic, and mexicans. I know mexicans are hispanic, but they don't.

<i>satirev Says: Isn’t the Commandment “Thou shalt not lie or utter falsehoods” something which the religious right believes?????
If so, what’ with all of the McBush/Palin lies??
September 11th, 2008 at 2:02 pm</i>

the Commandment I memorized (and scribbled many thousands of times, as punishment for my insolence) was: "Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor."

If you parse it carefully enough, it contains a dispensation for falsehoods and untruths which do NOT implicate one's neighbors.

That is, unless you're telling lies about your local folks, you can dissemble your ass off about anything else.

<em>satirev Says:

Hi Wayne: And the golden rule which is blatantly ignored by the faux christians of “do unto others as they would do unto you”…..or “we are all created equal in the eyes of God”.</em>

Sadly most of the vocal "Christian" leaders changed the golden rule to "Do unto others before they do unto you." and "I got mine, screw you."

I just wish these Religions would quit shedding blood in the name of "God" and using "God" as a reason to discriminate against others different from themselves.

I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ. -- Mohandas Gandhi

I sent the following email to Dennis Baxley:

With regard to all this false “Muslim” crap about Senator Barack Obama:

<strong>COMMANDMENT #9</strong>

<strong>'You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.'</strong>

Shame on you. SHAME.

Pray for forgiveness.

I don't believe it.

I don't believe that fundamentalist Christians are as large a voting block as we are being told. I don't believe that they came out in record numbers to support Bush in 2004. I don't believe that they are as stupid and narrow-minded as they are made out to be.

These are all stereotypes that hugely politically expedient for the right wing, but when these claims are made, they are always presented with only anecdotal evidence. Were there REPORTS of huge rural turnout in Ohio in 2004? The cameras showed long lines and huge turnout in Democratic areas, yes. But I heard NOTHING about record turn out in other areas. All I know is their votes 'showed up' on electronic voting machines, but I don't trust electronic voting enough to consider this authoritative evidence.

Their message is amplified by the corporate media, but amplified from what? Daryll shows up prodigiously, but he's fictional.

This demographic is surpassingly expedient for the lying theives who control our government. Fundamentalist Christian are portrayed as transcendentally irrational and so are completely immune to reasoned discussion. Their thinking is so appallingly disgusting that no one seeks them out. They live on the rural fringes, so they are expensive to survey and report on. They are fanatically devoted to their leaders, whom they believe implicitly with religious fervor. Who would approach such lunatics voluntarily? In short, they are the perfect justification for any implausible election result.

Our intuition rebells when we hear of them. No one could be 'that' stupid. No one could be 'that' narrow minded. No one with 'that' little brains could have such a powerful following. When normal Americans are faring so badly, how could such numbers of exceptionally stupid people be supported? What percentage of YOUR acquaintance fits their description? 40%??? 30%???

What if our intuition is right? What if they don't exist. What if they really are a small fringe segment that has been 'amplified' by a political party who controls the media and the election systems? How would we know? Who among the current Republican leadership would you think above such a fraud?

It is all just WAY TOO CONVENIENT for them.
