GIBSON: Do you still believe that global warming is not man made?

PALIN: I believe that man’s activities certainly can be contributing to the issue of global warming, climate change…regardless, though, of the reason for climate change, whether it’s entirely, WHOLLY caused by man’s activities, or is part of the cyclical nature of our planet, the warming and the cooling trends, regardless of that, John McCain and I agree that we’ve gotta do something about it, and we have to make sure that we’re doing all we can to cut down on pollution.”

GIBSON: But it’s a critical point, as to whether or not this is MAN-MADE. He’s said it is, you have said in the past it’s not.

PALIN: The debate on that even really has evolved into: “OK, here’s where we are now.” Scientists do show us that there are changes in climate. Things are getting warmer. Now, what do we do about it? And John McCain and I are going to be working on what we do about it.

GIBSON: Yes, but it’s…isn’t it critical as to whether or not it’s man made? Because what you do about it depends on whether it’s man made.

PALIN: That’s why I’m attributing some of man’s activities to potentially causing some of the changes in the climate right now.

GIBSON: But I…call me a cynic, but I hear a little bit of change in your policy there, when you say yes, now, you’re beginning to see it IS man made. Sounds to me like you’re adapting your position to Senator McCain’s.

PALIN: I think you are a cynic. Show me where I’ve ever said that there’s absolute proof that nothing that man has ever conducted or engaged in has had any effect, or no effect, on climate change.

Gov. Palin is absolutely right on this one. Gibson’s entire line of questioning, based on a false and simplistic “man made/not man made” dichotomy, betrays that he’s not at all familiar with the debate. Key points:
1. It is almost universally conceded that the earth’s climate changes from time to time. The earth’s average temperature has, in times past, been much colder (and also much warmer) than it is now.

2. It is almost universally conceded that the earth’s climate is affected, to at least some degree, by one or more human activities.

3. It is almost universally conceded that the earth’s climate is affected, to at least some degree, by one or more naturally-occurring phenomena.

The debate over global warming climate change is not over whether, on the one hand, man-made effects impact the climate or, on the other hand, natural phenomena impact the climate. As Palin tries, patiently but unsuccessfully, to explain to Gibson, there is some reason to believe that both factors have some effect.

To put it another way, the debate over global warming climate change rages over the relative weight, not the existence, of (2) and (3) above. The proponents of anthropogenic global warming climate change theory argue that human activity has a heavy impact on the earth’s climate (i.e., a more substantial effect than natural phenomena). Skeptics of the theory argue that the impact of anthropogenic effects is dwarfed by the effect of naturally-occuring phenomena (e.g., the level of incident radiation on the planet’s surface).

Despite Algore’s confident pronouncements, the debate is not even close to being over. In fact, the skeptics appear to have the objective science on their side, while the anthropogenic global warming climate change brownshirts resort to doctoring their numbers and bullying heretics.

With her clear statements above, Gov. Palin has identified herself as a skeptic of the anthropogenic theory, and backed it up with a solid explanation for her position. As you can see, Gibson’s attempt at another “gotcha” fell completely flat, as he was unprepared, unfamiliar with the background and way out of his league on the subject matter.

By this statement I did not mean John was not a good man and far more qualified than bush who he ran against, I just think that John and Al Gore both took too much for granted that the American people would seek out the truth and make their decision based on those facts……Americans are gullible and I think this has been well demonstrated, something Obama is fully aware of and has taken into consideration for this election cycle.

mccain has already shown that he has nothing except to run down Obama’s ambitious plans for America. mccain offers nothing except more financial problems and war.

I’ve made this point before here; Sarah Palin’s chief value to the McSame campaign is that people don’t know her. Thus, the rabid right wing, so attuned to authoritarian hero-worship, will attribute all of their fondest desires in a candiddate to her.

It’s exactly like when you first meet someone to whom you’re attracted. You don’t know much about them, so you fill in the blanks with assumptions that you’d like to be true; she loves sports, for instance, or she likes the same foods as you do. Or she’s kind to animals. Whatever. Then, as you get to know her more, some of those illusions crumble into dust. Maybe she likes Greek food, not Chinese. Maybe she tries to run over squirrels in the road.

In any case, the McSame campaign is trying desperately to extend that “meet cute” phase as long as possible. Until the election, if they can manage it.

Doug D’Amico said he’s rushing to order Palin’s glasses. The Encinitas optician told NBC 7/39 he’s getting calls from women who want to buy the same glasses worn by Palin during her convention speech Wednesday night.

“It’s fun,” D’Amico says. “While we stay away from politics, the glasses make a strong professional statement.”

The plan is to get the glasses in the store sometime Friday.

D’Amico’s office, Europtics, is located at the Lumberyard Shopping Mall in North County, but it’s not the only store getting calls.

Reports coming in across the country say that eyewear companies haven’t seen interest in a pair of glasses like this in years. According to USA Today, the U.S. distributor of the frames keeps getting calls from dealers who want to stock the exact shape and style Gov. Palin is wearing.

Read that again, out loud—or listen to her do so by replaying the clip—and pay close attention. She actually gets it exactly BACKWARD, essentially ‘agreeing’ that global warming is causing changes in man’s activities. What the hell?

She cannot even clear express her denial of her previous claims that there is no connection between human activity and global warming. She manages to reverse the denial, flipping the causal link. Seriously: how ignorant, woefully unprepared and inappropriately expressive could anyone possibly be?
