if Mr. Allen was teachable, I'd try to explain to him the difference between freedom, in the sense of liberty and licence. Driving SUV's and out-sized pickups is not an expression of liberty but of license, an excessive or undue taking of liberties with the environment for our children, as well as driving up the price of fuel for those of us who drive gas sippers, not guzzlers.

Freedom has to be exercised responsibly or it passes over into license and luxury in the negative senses historians used of the Roman Empire. That's what SUV's and F-150's etc. are: our licentious and luxurious chariots. And our fate will be simila to that of the Roman Empire.

I know that some years ago George Allen tried to get a brain transplant. Was he ever successful in that endeavor?

What kind of idiot would claim it's a good idea to let the Bush Administration, and their creatures, negotiate new oil leases? Would even a stupid troll be stupid enough to let those greedy morons negotiate anything? Doesn't the idiot troll realize that the current government wouldn't just give the industry the leases, they would also provide public funding for development of the resource?

Speaking of refineries. The consensus is that we could save around 20% of our gross oil consumption by an aggressive modernization of our nation's refineries plus, we could relocate many to less vulnerable/flood-prone areas.

Add that to simple things like outlawing incandescent light bulbs and "drive-thrus" and we can reduce our greenhouse emissions quite a chunk. Of course, such measures would also reduce gross consumption so the energy industry and it's whores won't do it without being forced. And as long as idiot trollish types Believe "it's impossible" it's up to thinking people to keep the pressure on.

Twaddle, drill everywhere, and develop new energy, of all kinds...

USpace Says:

The CO2 emission levels that the UN people are pushing for is the same level the USA had in the 1870s. That’s impossible to achieve, and not desirable either. We would be ruined, and besides, you’ll never get China or India to go along.

There’s nothing we can do to change the weather anyway, that’s the bottom line.
.
absurd thought -
God of the Universe says
humans’ breath is poison

just one child hurts the world
worse than a jet engine

Once again, trying to frame it as overall energy usage. and saying Libs want to make you ride bicycles, and that Al Gore is a hyocrite.
It's not energy, it's gasoleeeeen.
Jimmy Carter sounded the alert for alternative energy, but Ronald Reagan took the solar panels down from the White House roof.He removed the subsidies for alternative fuel research.
If we had committed to alternative fuels, we would be a more independent country, the Arab oil sheiks would be vastly less powerful (because Europe and Japan would have followed suit--but Big Oil would not be raking in the money because of their monopoly on a vital resource. And we can't have that.
Now, when Republicans sneer at libs and bicycles, they've got nothing on the other side, except the lie of drill drill drill.
You need a crunch to avoid a crash--but it's too late for that, now that the crash is here. It will take time for a full-bodied non-oil solution to get in place, and up until then conservation--and government support--are the only things that will lessen the pain.
It's not an ascetic future that the libs envision--it's a free one. The Repubs however say that freedom is slavery to the oil companies.
And Al Gore is a hypocite.

How can someone formerly elected to public office utter something as infantile and inane as "we're addicted to freedom" while at the same time rejecting a useful and pertinent statement such as "we're addicted to oil"?

I'm sorry, but if you heard this broadcast and weren't immediatly sickened at how moronic political discourse has become, then you're an idiot. Republicans are trying to make the uneducated and uninformed their base. By calling people with a firm grasp on our energy crisis "elitits," they are blatantly appealing to those ill-informed enough to make serious political decisions. Like the automotons that chanted "Drill, drill, drill" at the Republican Convention, anyone who thinks that the U.S. can continue on our current path of super-consumption is seriously disturbed.

By having George Allen on your radio show, aren't you just saying <em>"I broadcast to the lowest common (white) denominator"</em>?

The man believes in freedom, like that that was dispensed for the better part of the 19th century.

every time a repugs opens his/her mouth they lie or talk in tongues, they can't help it. They're total idiots.

Then stupidass todd (msnbc) and his bs map of all the red states he believes mcchimpy has is just plain bs. that dude makes me sicker every time I watch him.

How can mcchimpy win? Is the US that fuicking stupid?

And I never heard such bs in my life. white people will say good things about Sen. Obama in person and then will vote against their better judgment. Why vote for doom, thick head?

Another little tidbit: after all their fake bs about Sen. Obama's pastor, look what mcchimpy does. mcchimpy sought after and reached out to the dippy "preacher."

It's like a "gotcha" moment or "I make you look." Typical repugs bs.

Still wrong, on all counts, stupid troll.

The human race needs to reconsider how, when, and why we burn carbon-laden fuel. The rest of the industrialized world is already taking steps to do that and are creating whole new industries as they go. Unfortunately the good ol' U.S.A. is falling behind on alternative energy. Just like we did in production of automobiles and consumer electronics. But, what the heck? If you are happy to replace Mideastern oil with German solar panels and Chinese wind turbines, wait for them.

Reducing emissions is not only possible, it's already happening. People claimed it was impossible to reduce other pollution sources yet, we have done so. Everything from cars to coal plants are cleaner and more efficient than they once were. And we have stopped the emissions of some; like DDT, PCBs, and Dioxin.

As for human respiration, I once thought that too. However humans typically replace other creatures and require densely planted crops so, the vast number of people doesn't greatly increase the net CO2 content of the atmosphere. Simply burning stuff in a wasteful manner is an entirely different story. That's all carbon which would not have been in the atmosphere; not to mention all the other toxins we needlessly pump into the environment.

Plus, we humans have already changed the weather. Believe as you wish but, there really is no legitimate debate on that point. And I've seen it with my own eyes as have countless thousands of scientists and lay people alike.

So? I humbly suggest you STFU, take your favorite verse, fold it four ways, light it on fire, and insert it in your Southern orifice. Cause you sure as Hell don't have a clue about what you are arguing.

G'night good people.
You too trolls.

The CO2 emission levels that the UN people are pushing for is the same level the USA had in the 1870s. That's impossible to achieve, and not desirable either. We would be ruined, and besides, you'll never get China or India to go along.

There's nothing we can do to change the weather anyway, that's the bottom line.
.
absurd thought -
God of the Universe says
humans' breath is poison

just one child hurts the world
worse than a jet engine

I don't have faith in junk science. I do, however, take the facts presented by real science seriously. No faith necessary.

And no economic destruction necessary, either. Switching from a fossil-fuel based economy to a renewable and sustainable one will create jobs, not destroy them.
