Campaigning in Colorado today, Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK) promised renewed attention to kids with special needs. She declared, “Ever since I took the chief executive’s job up North I pushed for more funding for students with special needs,” and cited her own family’s experience with the issue. Watch it:
It’s a stretch to say she “pushed” for any policy improvements. Though Palin did sign a law increasing special education funding in Alaska, “she had no role whatsoever” in its development, according to the bill’s author, Rep. Mike Hawker (R). Moreover, as governor, Palin vetoed $275,000 in Special Olympics Alaska funds (Page 100, SB 221 with vetoes), slashing the organization’s operating budget in half.
So that’s what she meant by being “an advocate” for families of special needs’ members.
Advocate = Nope.
September 15th, 2008 at 5:34 pmWhat a target-rich environment this bimbo provides!!!!
September 15th, 2008 at 5:35 pmGood story, TP. Just when you think that the BS couldn’t get any deeper . . . it does. I hope this makes it to the MSM, too.
September 15th, 2008 at 5:36 pmCompassionate conservatism???
September 15th, 2008 at 5:36 pmOf course she did. And she’s probably proud of herself for it.
September 15th, 2008 at 5:36 pmthem_libs Says:
huh? You don’t think it’s relevant that she spit in the face of special needs children until she started running for vp?
September 15th, 2008 at 5:39 pmPALIN: And that infamous funding for the “Races To Nowhere”, I did tell the Alaska state senate, “Thanks, but no thanks” — if we wanted some races up there we were going to stage them ourselves.
September 15th, 2008 at 5:39 pmIt’s funny reading trolls responses here because they never offer any reasoning for any of their contents.
“HAHA! This article is stupid just because I think it is!”
Convincing argument.
Anyway, I’m starting to wonder if she’s done anything she says she has. There doesn’t seem to be many examples of it.
September 15th, 2008 at 5:40 pmA: ‘I did, because – well, you know: I said I did.’ ‘I did.”
Q: ‘Did what?’
A: ‘Whatever I said I did.’
And in other news, Governor Palin ACTUALLY said, just today…
“Guys and gals, our regulatory system is outdated and needs a complete overhaul. Washington has ignored this. Washington has been asleep at the switch and ineffective and management on Wall Street has not run these institutions responsibly and has put companies and markets at risk. They place their own interests first instead of their employees and the shareholders who actually own these companies.”
To which I said, but FOX apparently saw not fit to print…
“Please…
The very economic minds that have for decades created the environment in which this latest crisis has been triggered, are senior economic advisers to the McCain-Palin campaign. It is the Republic administration and the largely Republican controlled houses of Congress which chose to relax and eliminate regulatory oversight.
It’s becoming abundantly clear that this self-professed ‘hockey mom’ likely doesn’t have the economic knowledge to balance her family’s checkbook, let alone that of Alaska or the nation at large. What a pathetic commentary from a supporter of those who have spent years driving the US economy into the ground, and who currently conspire with McCain and Palin to finally ‘drown the baby in the bathtub,’ in the words of one of their most ardent supporters.
This is simply absurd.”
And it all is. Simply absurd. To which I might add, now that I think of it, “Governor: shut the hell up!”

I’m so glad you find humor in someone’s insensitivity to the plight of the Special Olympians and the joy that participation in the Special Olympics brings to them. I’m sure happy people are anathema to your worldview, especially if they’re ‘different’.
September 15th, 2008 at 5:41 pmBut like all the GOPers, now that Palin has a Downs baby, her policies will change accordingly.
Just like Cheney with his lesbian daughter.
And Bush with the organ grinders’ union benefits.
PEACE
September 15th, 2008 at 5:42 pmBushinaskirt likes funding for people with special needs, like say…republicans.
September 15th, 2008 at 5:42 pmFrom this day forward, I will identify Ms. Palin as “Chippy”. If one checks the link below one will understand just how much contempt is packed in that nickname. So the ticket is now “Flippy (McSpin) and Chippy”.

September 15th, 2008 at 5:45 pmAnd in other news, Governor Palin ACTUALLY said, just today…

September 15th, 2008 at 5:50 pmthemlibs, Okay, I’ll bite, what would be a good reason for cutting the funding? It’s socialism.. Let them pull themselves up by their own bootstraps? Let them get corporate sponsorship like NASCAR? Please tell me.

All of them_libs’ disabilities are between his ears.
That is not in question at all.
September 15th, 2008 at 5:52 pmThe question I have is, was it born that way or did its mama drop it on its head?
Oh, uh – them_libs:
Why don’t you shut the hell up, too? Or, get of your dead ass and learn about, volunteer for and support the Special Olympics? Or, would it be too much to ask you to contribute to the legacy other Eunice Kennedy Shriver and other [gasp!] liberals?
September 15th, 2008 at 5:54 pmAnother clueless sock puppet? Or just another McTroll from McSpin’s McSite?
Here’s the deal troll. It doesn’t matter what reason Flippy’s Chippy gives for the veto. What does matter is that she lied. AGAIN. AS ALWAYS.
Even when I was still trying to give her the benefit of the doubt, I was unable to find a single, absolutely, true statemnet in her entire public record. Nada. Zip. Never happened. Chippy is inherently dishonest and delusional. She’s a very dangerous person who may exceed the potential for bad governance displayed by the Bush administration.
And anyone who can’t see that is blind, stupid, or both. There are NO exceptions.

There’s the …. um…. you know, the uhhhh — hmmmm.
Most likely, someone in charge of the program in Alaska was not in the governor’s seventh-grade click of popular girls.

September 15th, 2008 at 6:01 pmPoor, idiotic, troll. There’s no justification for a candidate to lie and that’s the issue. It doesn’t matter if she doubled the funding for Special Olympics and claimed she “pushed for less funding”. It’s still a lie.
And until we, as a society, recognize the simple fact that habitual liars can’t be allowed in government? We’re phucked.
September 15th, 2008 at 6:02 pm“I pushed for more funding for students with special needs”

Obamba said he would only take public money. He lied. He is no better then the Republicrats.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
I am a Green too and overall I agree with you I vote for Dems mostly because the Republicans are just over the top evil, but your point is WRONG Obama said he would commit to public financing for the general election if his opponent did so.
http://mediamatters.org/items/200806220001?f=s_search
On Meet the Press, host Brian Williams allowed Sen. Lindsey Graham to crop an answer Sen. Barack Obama gave on a Midwest Democracy Network questionnaire about whether he would commit to public financing for the general election if his opponent did so. While Graham read the question and beginning of Obama’s answer aloud, neither he nor Williams noted that Obama concluded his answer by saying he would “aggressively pursue an agreement with the Republican nominee to preserve a publicly financed general election,” which the Obama campaign maintains he did before determining an agreement with the McCain campaign was unreachable.
Again overall I agree, we have two wings of the business party and there are only marginal differnces between the parties its just that the GOP is so stock full of plague rats that those marginal differences right now mean REAL things to REAL people ON the margins. I am not trying to convince you not to vote Green more power to you but when criticising Obama use REAL criticisms not the rightwing talking points.
September 15th, 2008 at 6:18 pmFolks, looks like a couple of trolls got loose in their homeroom class. Another example of every child left behind. http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2008/02/11/politics/horserace/entry3819016.shtml
With the Republican nomination now all but his, John McCain is opting out of the public financing program that – back when his campaign was running on fumes – seemed to be the only way for him to maintain any sort of viability.
According to the Associated Press, McCain informed the Federal Election Commission and the Treasury Department that he was withdrawing from the public financing system, which would have infused his campaign with $5.8 million in matching funds but also required him to abide by spending restrictions that would likely prove fatal in a general election against either Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama.

September 15th, 2008 at 6:28 pmDid you catch the Sugaree in the second set at Redrocks?
You seriously need a miracle….
The playing field is not level. Even with the money Obama has raised and the money the gop will add the dems are still far behind the huge amounts of money the gop is now pumping into the game.
Not to mention the disadvantage in the public eye. You know with the republicans owning all of the the tv stations and all…..
Guess you just want Obama to cripple in there with just the public money against this machine, is that it?
September 15th, 2008 at 6:29 pmYou better keep Ahnuld away from Palin, since he fully supports the Special Olympics and all. Then again, Ahnuld has actual 21st century beliefs and policies…not the Little House on the Palin crap.

September 15th, 2008 at 6:37 pmWrong again troll.
McSpin’s flip on public financing is well documented and old news, along with 71 flops on policy since he began this run at the Presidency.
However, his Chippy’s innumerable lies are still being ferreted out and modified to conform with the new lies she’s forced to adopt as the GOP candidate for veep. Which must be especially nerve racking for her new handlers because her first response on ANY issue is to simply state whatever fantasy is placed in her head.
The only real question is how much of her BS is something her Pastor told her, how much the party tells her, and how much is just repeating the voices in her head.
Ms. Palin, to any objective observer, is fundamentally: dishonest, dogmatic, vindictive, partisan, delusional, aggressive and incurious. All of these traits are well documented, her public record reads like a bad fantasy novel, and any one of those is disqualifying in my estimation.
September 15th, 2008 at 6:40 pmOops! I forgot “ignorant”.

Had,
I agree with your statement but do disagree with you that Social Security is an entitlement program. I have been paying my Social Security taxes since 1945. My wife and I still must pay into the fund in the form of self-employment taxes (twice as much as when we worked for somebody else). Had the Government done as the law specifies and paid interest on those funds instead of squandering them in the
September 15th, 2008 at 7:21 pm“General” fund and not paying interest we would be getting two to three times the return on our investment. The only way Social Security can be considered an “entitlement” program is when the crooked politicians, like bushco, claim they are entitled to our money.

September 15th, 2008 at 7:21 pmI respectfully disagree. There is nothing that prevents others from talking around them
Michael Lafferty Says:
Damn: well said! May I quote you on that?
Thank you and, yes, you may quote me. But, don’t forget the “ignorant” as I did.
September 15th, 2008 at 7:27 pmI have to side with db on the troll issue. On the one hand, I find it nearly impossible to let blatant lies go unchallenged. On the other hand, they help us hone our arguments for those who are simply misinformed and may come to realize the dire nature of the threat Flippy and Chippy represent. And, on the other other hand, stomping trolls helps me avoid taking out my frustrations on expensive inanimate objects.
September 15th, 2008 at 7:33 pmHow much did that hockey rink cost?
A sales-tax increase and $14.7 million bond issue to pay for the sports center, which was to feature a running track, basketball courts and a hockey rink. At the time, the city’s annual budget was about $20 million. Palin’s son was a star hockey player.
But $275 thou for special kids (now she has one of her own — karma can be a kick in the head) No — not enough money.
September 15th, 2008 at 7:56 pmMarie, all over the US, cities won’t put enough money into education—but they’ll spend $1 billion on a new sports stadium, when they already have a perfectly good one (just not enough luxury suites). Cowboys, NYGiants, NYYankees, IndyColts, Charlotte, etc.
September 15th, 2008 at 9:12 pmEeewwwww, them_libs has taffy all over his keyboard and mouse!
September 15th, 2008 at 9:13 pmPREACHING TO THE CHOIR!
All this information is useless unless it it somehow conveyed to the conservative/republicans who are not in the top 1% of the population. So, the question is, how do we do this.
September 15th, 2008 at 9:16 pmhad enough Says:
Just like she would cut funding for Social Security and ALL entitlement programs.

Senior citizens love the idea of “the stork” and can’t understand the science behind what could…you know…help them, because God loves them and all in his empty ways. Lets face it, because there isn’t a black and white movie with easy talking actors explaining this stuff, it goes right over their heads.
So with Sarah Dumb Dumb, then have the next best thing: the cute next door girl politician saying she’ll save them and their imaginary beneficiary. All the while making sure grandma and grandpa have a smile when they vote for the shortbread ticket. Because old people think change…any “change” is the devil and his armies knocking on the pearly gates to the retirement center to take nap time, driver’s licenses and all you can eat pudding away forever.
September 15th, 2008 at 10:37 pmDumb Question: What would Palin do to the school in Alaska that dared refuse special resources for her disabled kid ?
September 15th, 2008 at 10:54 pmMost likely retard the careers of everyone at the school and school district, no matter their involvement in it. Then serve them up to Billo, Rush, Laura and every neocon pundit who would still think Palin matters in the greater schemes of the GOP.
September 16th, 2008 at 3:06 amIf you read the budget you will see that the budget was cut to $275,000 from $550,000. I read that as vastly different than vetoing a $275,000 request as implied by the article.
We need to have the name of the person authoring the article because in the future that person’s credibility may be a deciding factor on whether the article is worthing of our precious time. I have noticed that certain news organizations use vague terms and phrases verses specific information to color their reports of the news.
Recent events, admitted bias http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/09/09/AR2008090900956.html, in a our news industry have made it very difficult to use output of the news industry as an information gathering resource. In my opinion the news industry is gracefully moving towards mob mentality in search of increasing profits. When there are as many news outlets as we have today there is extreme competition for our attention and thus advertising dollars. Good news has a history of not selling to the public. When good news does not sell the news business, to survive by attracting advertising, needs bad news to sell its products and the news industry has the resources to find bad news. In the end the good news for the news industry is when advertiser pay them for time or space which is a direct result of how their news sells.
Now read this article or any other and ask yourself is the information intended to attract readers? In that vain does this article feed the mob mentality?

September 16th, 2008 at 10:57 amWe know that when government sends money to a state or organization or buys a product or service 100% of that money comes from a collected tax.
We know that business pays taxes from profits and individuals pay taxes from the wages earned by working for business.
We know that for a country, state or local community or household to grow they need more cash. More cash has to come in than goes out or that entity is going broke. Small town America, with fewer jobs, is spending more beyond its borders than taking in and is shrinking at 1% per year. States and Cities without a vibrant business community are also doing poorly. Hence the ads on TV asking “build your business here”.
What are earmarks? Instead of deciding and voting individually on what money government will send back to which state or organizaion or buy, our representatives in congress and senate, have got stuck with lumping a lot of spending proposals together allowing “small” unpopular spending projects to be attached to large popular spending projects. Voting for one, votes for all. Thus using fear as a tactic to garner votes, voting no because of an earmark or two can be sold in elections like this as voting against the main and popular title.
Small projects, when added together represents a huge number of our tax dollars. Making keeping track of misguided earmarks important to our national budget.
US government is tasked to fund projects that are in the interest of most of the people in the US. Earmarks, misguided earmarks, are a way to circumvent that intention. Some would say introducing an earmark is of questionable integrity because the earmark can be in other than our national interest. The persons introducing these earmarks are hoping to hide their request for funding behind an important project. Major projects are often laced with earmark projects because of that feature. Wouldn’t it be news worthy to know who introduces which earmark, who voted for them and their individual running total?
Is there a clear cut conclusion when we say this state or organization received earmarks? I think, to know that answer we need to look at how that state or organization used the funds to be sure that funding was used in our national interest. Bringing up, of course, accountability issues.
Where there is money, there is a good chance of corruption. City after city in the United States have in their history stories of corruption, using public money for non-public benefit.
Corruption exists primarily because of mob mentality, that is going with the crowd and not investigating for yourself. We vote and we need to use that vote wisely. We need to do our own research. If corruption exists it exists because we the people have not kept our eye on the ball, instead went with the mob mentalitiy.

September 17th, 2008 at 1:12 amSo, an organization asks for a 220% increase in its funding from the state from one years budget to the next, but is given an increase of 10% instead.
They received more money, but this is called a “cut”. Riiiiiiight.
Some of the posters here should try asking for a 220% increase for their next raise and let us know the results.
Just because a request is made to the government does not mean it should be funded. Sadly very few people in Government get that idea, and that is why the USofA is over 60 trillion in debt (yes, it is that high, and yes both parties are to blame).
But hey, if it will help get the dude with the (D) instead of the dude with the (R) into the White House let’s just mess with words and twist reality a bit.

September 21st, 2008 at 5:57 pmThis is another example that the “old world jounalism of Murrow, Cronkite and Rather is dead and buried. In the case of the Time Magazine reporter Ms Tumulty, she seems to think the finding out the who, what, where, when and how have been replaced with a steno pad, which she records what ABC said in rebuttle to the complaint of Congressman Kucinich. There is a great disconnect with what happened and the points made by ABC. She asks little of no questions to ABC. She takes what is handed to her and repeats it vebatim and then calls that reporting. I call is stenography. Lida Sohbet sohbet sesli chat Gelinlik Modelleri
January 11th, 2009 at 11:24 amIf you’re referring to Karl Schwarz’ articles, if they are true, how will we ever know unless the news media gets involved without bias? The military under orders not to speak out may never convey Karl Scharz’ expose’. Sesli Sohbet If Cheney was truly involved in 9/11 and protected in some way, then he’s being protected by what may be going on in the Caspian Sea area as well. That pre-9/11 August 10, 2000 article drives the point home to me that Cheney had a vested interest in the oil at the Caspian Sea area (before 9/11). Fx15 From all I’ve read in Schwarz’ articles, he claims the Taliban was working on a deal with Argentina with that pipeline in the Caspian Sea area and UNOCOL wanted the deal instead. Orjinal Lida It’s too much to get into here and I’m not able to convey in here what Schwarz has presented in his articles. Sikis Dig into Schwarz’ articles to learn more about the unnamed soldier’s experiences related to so-called Black Ops missions in the Caspian Sea area in Schwarz’ article. What Schwarz had to present in this article is an eye opener: kurtlar vadisi pusu izle

I want suits in Colorado, New Jersey, and any other state where illegal suppression campaigns are being conducted. And some real looks at the polling methodology would also be eye opening.

I am a Special Education Teacher. I think that the Special Olympic should be privately funded. I also believe that the US Olympic team should be privately funded. The state goverments and Federal government both fund far to many programs that we can not afford. Of course we should also quit the UN get them to leave the USA. Maybe they would be better off in Zimbabwe or Iran.
