At a campaign stop in Golden, CO today, Gov. Sarah Palin repeated — for the tenth time — her thoroughly debunked claim that she said “thanks, but no thanks” to Congress for federal funding for the Bridge to Nowhere:
PALIN: And that infamous Bridge to Nowhere, I did tell Congress, “Thanks, but no thanks” — if we wanted a bridge up there we were going to build it ourselves.
Watch it:
The McCain campaign and its surrogates have now repeated the lie 34 times, according to a ThinkProgress count:

Clearly, the GOOPers have NOTHING else to run on.
No successes to point to.
No platform.
No new ideas.
NOTHING but the same lies they told last week.
September 15th, 2008 at 12:19 pmHow many times will Jesus forgive her for lying? Sarah, darlin’, your Bridge to Nowhere is going to be your personal Bridge to Hell! Repent for your sins!
September 15th, 2008 at 12:21 pmLie at will and make sh!t up. That is the strategy of the crooks in the GOP.
September 15th, 2008 at 12:22 pmIs it just me or is Sarahcuda really a Chatty Kathy doll in glasses?
Can’t they try to pre-record a LITTLE change in the tape and the wooden gestures?
September 15th, 2008 at 12:22 pm“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.” Joseph Goebbels
Interesting how recently the Republican playbook tends to lean toward….
September 15th, 2008 at 12:24 pmPalin / PTSD – ‘08
Thanks, but NO THANKS
September 15th, 2008 at 12:24 pmShe’s just so danged pleased with herself for injecting the word “infrastructure” into her sort-of-denaial as an excuse for requesting (but not as much as the other guys), accepting (but not as much as the other guys), and keeping (maybe as much as the other guys???) millions and millions of “outsiders’” (that would be everyone in the 48 contiguous states) dollars.
I’m sorry, but I can’t find that pattern under the heading “reformer.”
September 15th, 2008 at 12:26 pmAw, come on, we all know that Repukes love a good liar.
The repukes are not voting for McSame as President, they all know he is gonna die soon, they are voting for Caribou Barbie for Pres.
Caribou Barbie, worst than Bush, more clueless than Bush, more radical than Bush, as big a LIAR as Bush.
If the repukes steal the election again and if America let’s that happen, then the destruction of the country is exactly what we deserve.
September 15th, 2008 at 12:28 pmRecall Sarah’s making fun of Obama’s styrofoam Greek columns in her acceptance speech?
“When the cloud of rhetoric has passed, when the roar of the crowd fades away, when the stadium lights go out, and those Styrofoam Greek columns are hauled back to some studio lot – what exactly is our opponent’s plan? What does he actually seek to accomplish, after he’s done turning back the waters and healing the planet?”
It turns out the Values Voter Summit Gala Dinner had those same columns. Beware the wrath of Sarah, Values Voters!
September 15th, 2008 at 12:28 pmTime for a collective shaking of the head, a rolling of the eyes, a deep sigh — and then an announced: “But back to the business of today…” which must include a reality check of the lovely Sen. McCain and his firm grasp on all things economic.
September 15th, 2008 at 12:28 pmOk, the thoroughly-debunked claim is still being perpetuated as truth. After you tell the two-year-old, “No!” several times, repeating it louder probably isn’t going to help. Keep on debunking, but obviously it’s not keeping the claim from being repeated.
September 15th, 2008 at 12:29 pmShe did sound like a great cheer-leader, though.
RAH RAH !!

September 15th, 2008 at 12:30 pmso, we’ll keep repeating the truth… PALIN IS A PIG
its hard to represent change when its YOU (R’s) that have fu*ked up the last 8 years. what are you gonna change?
lol, certainly not your pig lies…
palin, the pig to no where!
September 15th, 2008 at 12:30 pmThey’re liars, they know they’re liars, they don’t care they’re liars, because they know they have nothing to offer. They only care whether they can sell the lies (they can).

September 15th, 2008 at 12:30 pmDon’t blame Palin, it’s just that Karl Rove’s minions haven’t given her a new speech to memorize, yet.
September 15th, 2008 at 12:31 pmNote to Keith Olbermann: time to get your checkbook out again.
September 15th, 2008 at 12:33 pmThis is all John’s fault. Poor judgement, bad choice. I’m not sure what country is put first, but it certainly isn’t the USA. Perhaps the confederacy, athough I thought they were defeated a while back.
September 15th, 2008 at 12:34 pmSurely McStain’s team could have rewritten this part of Palin’s speech, replacing it with something equally untrue, but which hasn’t become almost as embarassing as the bridge itself.
Then, McStain himself goes out there this morning and repeats “the fundamentals of our economy are strong” bullshiite on one of the worst days in our country’s financial history. Again, a truly embarassing thing to say, and which could have easily been replaced in his stump speech.
So why haven’t they done so yet? Have the speech writers all quit to spend more time with their families? Or do they really think the lies are still working? Something fishy is going on here.
Come November 5th, both these candidate’s careers are essentially over. I’m sure the good folks in Alaska are going to just love that Princess Wasilla moved their history of earmarks to the national stage, and thus put all future earmarks in jeopardy.
PEACE
September 15th, 2008 at 12:35 pmMcCon offered to clean up Wall Street, promising “transparency and accountability”. Sorry John, that rings hollow, given your VP’s not cooperating in an ethics probe.
McCon-Pullin’ “Country First, where Country = Me”
September 15th, 2008 at 12:45 pmWe all know who the puppets, Bush & Palin are.
But, do we know who the Puppetmasters are?
PNAC, AIPAC, AEI, Carlyle, Family Research Council, CCCC, ad nauseum.
September 15th, 2008 at 12:45 pmBush ran on a platform of lies and won twice, so the Repubs are seeing if Americans are stupid enough to fall for a campaign of lies a 3rd time in a row.
Frankly, if Americans are stupid enough to fall for it 3 times in a row, I may just transfer to job in one of the offices out of the country.
September 15th, 2008 at 12:51 pmYou’d think even a moron would get tired of a broken record. But then again, they are morons after all.
September 15th, 2008 at 12:52 pmShe’s like a broken record – in fact, that’s what she has – a broken political record.
McCain/Palin are LIARS, HYPOCRITES and FRAUDS.
September 15th, 2008 at 1:04 pmLIAR, LIAR, your lipstick’s on fire!
September 15th, 2008 at 1:06 pmBre’r Fox (McCain) he lay low and the tar baby (MSM), he don’t say nothing!
September 15th, 2008 at 1:13 pmJust as Sen. Obama said the repugs don’t get it.
they don’t remember about the amazing powers of the internet, they have no idea about the wonders of linking text, they don’t realize that people are keeping track of them.
While Sen. Obama is speaking on the realities and the grownup issues that face us and the world mcchimpy is going around looking ridiculous and stupid like he normally does.
let’s see what else these nuts can pull out their nasty asses.
what’s next with these dangerous, clueless duo?

Won?
September 15th, 2008 at 1:25 pmShe is a liar what DID we expect. It seems to me the current GOP for the most part, in the words of the late great Hunter S Thompson, are flat out knee crawling thugs with the morals of a weasel on speed.

Uh, that would be an upgrade from Stepford Standard to Stepford Deluxe. I think McBush is banking on the no-frills model being sufficient, showing his overall contempt for the intelligence of the average voter.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
they are so dumb and childish/immature it’s ridiculous.
September 15th, 2008 at 1:27 pmI’m becoming more and more convinced that the Republicans know they should and probably will lose this election. However, Karl Rove and the neocons (now there’s a band name for you) are using this election cycle as an experiment in American stupidity. Put up a candidate whose record paralells that of your failed and current leader, lie with wanton abandon (even well after the press has debunked you), smear, choose THE most incompetent running mate you can find, run on a platform that GUARANTEES disaster and talk about nothing but lies and smears about your opponent. Sit back and see what happens. If you win, great. If you lose you have a clear roadmap of just how far you can take dirty politics for future elections. They have nothing to lose and all to gain.
September 15th, 2008 at 1:44 pmCAN ANYONE TELL ME EXACTLY WHEN, AND TO WHOM, SARAH PALIN SAID “THANKS BUT NO THANKS”?
This lie keeps being repeated but I haven’t read or heard of anyone asking just when and to whom she said it to.
I want to know…I think America wants to know…
OBAMA, OH-EIGHT, OR ELSE!
September 15th, 2008 at 1:45 pm“CAN ANYONE TELL ME EXACTLY WHEN, AND TO WHOM, SARAH PALIN SAID “THANKS BUT NO THANKS”?”
Her conscience, I think
September 15th, 2008 at 2:00 pmA noun, a verb, and “thanksbutnothankstothebridgetonowhere.”
**sigh**
September 15th, 2008 at 2:21 pmDrago @ #25
Thanks!! Hilarious!!!
September 15th, 2008 at 5:42 pmLady, seriously, drop the chalupa.
September 15th, 2008 at 6:06 pmSo, she repeated this lie ad nauseum for two weeks, until the media fact-checked, and declared it to be untrue. She finally quietly dropped it from her canned speech. Then a weekend occurred – new week, new Monday, new audience — it’s OK now to resurrect the lie and repeat it for another two weeks until the media catches on and reports that it’s untrue.
It’s a cycle, folks.
The choice in this election is so close, why are the polls so tight? Who’s kidding who? Obama raised more money and registered more voters – how does Old McSame and Shootin’Palin manage to stay even?
September 15th, 2008 at 7:04 pmAs Shakespeare wrote, something is rotten in Denmark.
I don’t know if this has been posted yet but I just found the below official document which provides the best evidence yet that what Sarah Palin has been repeating over and over again is a complete lie. Take a look. http://dot.alaska.gov/stwdplng/projectinfo/ser/Gravina/images/092107_palin_gap_release.pdf
Here are Sarahs own words:
“Despite the work of our congressional delegation, we are about $329 million short of full funding for the bridge project,
September 15th, 2008 at 8:00 pmand it’s clear that Congress has little interest in spending any more money on a bridge between Ketchikan and Gravina
Island,” Governor Palin added.</em>“Much of the public’s attitude toward Alaska bridges is based on inaccurate portrayals of
the projects here. But we need to focus on what we can do, rather than fight over what has happened.”
