Yesterday on CNN, host John King asked White House Press Secretary Dana Perino about “charges of sexism in the media.” “Tell me what it is like. And do you agree with those charges?” King asked.
Perino responded by saying how “fortunate” she is to be able to work for President Bush — “the first gender blind president“:
KING: We have currently allegations that we’re elitist from the McCain campaign, [with] charges of sexism in the media. Tell me what it is like. And do you agree with those charges?
PERINO: I’ve been fortunate to work for a president who I consider to be the first gender blind president. I have a seat at the table. I feel very confident and very comfortable in my relationships with the others — with others that I work with at the White House. And there’s many other women throughout the Cabinet that the president has appointed.
Watch it:
Perino seems to have forgotten that “the first gender blind president” said he would veto the Paycheck Fairness Act, legislation that would help close the wage gap between working men and women and “close loopholes that have allowed employers to avoid responsibility” for discriminatory pay.
Also, shortly after taking office, Bush offered a proposal “to stop requiring all health insurance plans for federal employees to cover a broad range of birth control.” Moreover, Bush administration officials once mocked gender discrimination at the Justice Department and today, despite tens of thousands of women having been deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan, the Veterans Affairs Department is struggling to deal with women’s health care needs.
By calling Bush “the first” gender blind president, it seems that Perino doesn’t think very highly of the way Bush’s father handled gender equality.
He’s gender blind allright. He doesn’t care who he screws.
September 15th, 2008 at 2:26 pmhow about a presidunce who is blind on everything, living in a bubble with zero windows.
September 15th, 2008 at 2:27 pmSure and he is a uniter not a divider, a decider, and the Sun shines out of his ass. On Planet WINGNUT all that is true here on Planet EARTH reality rules
September 15th, 2008 at 2:28 pmAt least Scotty was able to open his eyes and see he was being played — this twit will never know.
September 15th, 2008 at 2:30 pmPerino Says Bush Is ‘The First Gender Blind President’
Actually the real title, of first Alcohol Blinded President was taken already by Grant, So they have to make something up.
September 15th, 2008 at 2:31 pmPurino is clearly stating:
who I consider to be the first gender blind president. I have a seat at the table.
But she is required to bark for scraps.
And this is her opinion, so we know how much actual weight it carries.
September 15th, 2008 at 2:31 pmOh, for the love of God. OK, I’ll buy that Chimpy has hired a lot of women. Unfortunately, they’re ALL token women who are completely UNQUALIFIED to hold those positions.
Harriet Myers for Supreme Court justice, anyone…?
September 15th, 2008 at 2:32 pmNow that’s just damn funny.
September 15th, 2008 at 2:33 pmLittle Dana Perino: The Eva Braun of modern GOP politics.
Bless her heart, since nobody else will.
September 15th, 2008 at 2:35 pmBeing gender blind is why he mauled German PM Merkel. He thought she was one of the guys!
September 15th, 2008 at 2:36 pmDana Perino has shown that she’s just another one of the “I got mine” crowd. What she really means to say is “Bush is the first gender-blind president because he hired me, a woman, for this position. I am completely oblivious to what he has done to other women.”
First of all, hiring you, Dana, doesn’t mean that he’s gender-blind. That just means that he’s intelligence-blind, and hires without regard to ability.
Second, Bush isn’t the first guy who has hired a woman press secretary. Remember Dee Dee Myers? And don’t think Condi Rice is the first Secretary of State — Albright came before her.
A true gender-blind president is not the one who hires a few female tokens as window dressing. A true gender-blind president is one who recognizes that American women are as much citizens as their male counterparts, and deserve the same freedoms, rights, and responsibilities.
September 15th, 2008 at 2:36 pmGender blind? Well, definitely the blind part, particularly when it comes to being blind to the widespread allegations of rape, sexual harassment and abuse of female soldiers and American contractors working in Iraq.
September 15th, 2008 at 2:40 pmI love you, Miss Molly. :)
September 15th, 2008 at 2:41 pmThe only one who really knows which gender george is . . . is barney.
September 15th, 2008 at 2:43 pmBush’s Sixth Sense: “I don’t see genitalia”
September 15th, 2008 at 2:43 pmDana, that word you keep using. I don’t think it means what you think it means.
September 15th, 2008 at 2:47 pmYes, we all know the story of The Blind Men and the Elephant. I take it Dana is saying Bush is one of them.
Blind Bush comments, “The fundamentally sound U.S. economy is like a hose, leaf, trunk, pole, rope, ….”
September 15th, 2008 at 2:48 pmPerino Says Bush Is ‘The First Gender Blind President’”
– - President Merkel of Germany might not agree.
September 15th, 2008 at 2:54 pmPERINO: I have a seat at the table.
Yeah
The kids table they have set aside at all family get-togethers………….
September 15th, 2008 at 2:56 pmUh, considering the company he has kept in the past (Gannon) maybe that’s what she mean’s…Ol bull shit bush isn’t sure which gender he is so he screw’s them all untill his drunk, drugged up mind try’s to figure it out…..LOL…Blessings
September 15th, 2008 at 2:57 pmDana “puppy chow” Purina has taken the position of the POTUS Press Secretary to new lows ….. in honesty, integrity and intelligence.
So, I guess she will move on to be either another K Street lobbyist whore or another Repug member of Congress. She definitely has the credentials for either.
September 15th, 2008 at 2:57 pmWhether or not Bush is “gender blind”, he has certainly proven he is “Ethics Blind”.
September 15th, 2008 at 2:57 pm“Perino seems to have forgotten”, also, to answer the question…
September 15th, 2008 at 3:00 pmThink Perino is getting paid the same as the late Tony Snow?
That would be a number I would love to see. And if she’s not, then I wonder what she might say about the Lilly Ledbetter bill? eh?
September 15th, 2008 at 3:06 pmWay back when, Republicans and Democrats weren’t a whole lot different. In 1917 women’s Suffrage became a big issue. An all female protest outside of Dem. President Woodrow Wilson’s White House was met with considerable police brutality and brutal imprisonment. It took until 1919 for the 19th amendment to be passed by the Republican controlled Congress and signed into law by the Democratic president.
Since then the GOP as policy has chosen to keep females in their place whilst the Democrats have gradually advanced their power and representation.
September 15th, 2008 at 3:10 pmMr. Evil Says:
He’s gender blind allright. He doesn’t care who he screws
Crap, you beat me to it, Dr. Evil….er….Mr. Evil.
September 15th, 2008 at 3:12 pmPERINO: I’ve been fortunate to work for a president who I consider to be the first gender blind president. I have a seat at the table. I feel very confident and very comfortable in my relationships with the others — with others that I work with at the White House. And there’s many other women throughout the Cabinet that the president has appointed.
Admitting the dopey females in this garbage administration are as equally unqualified and brainless and incompetent as the males in it…………What a stirring defense of women ………
September 15th, 2008 at 3:16 pmWayne A. Schneider Says:
Whether or not Bush is “gender blind”, he has certainly proven he is “Ethics Blind”.
I still say he is also Alcohol Blinded, as we saw at the Olympics, and each time he gets injured from “fighting brush” in Crawford.
September 15th, 2008 at 3:16 pmThen that is the ONLY blindness Bush does not have. He sure as hell can’t see anything else – an economy in the toilet with banks and Wall Street circling the bowl, a net loss of jobs every month for the past six months, the highest unemployment in 6 years, a government he has persistently broken, grievous breaches of ethics in EPA, Minerals Management, other agencies – you name it and Bush is blind as a bat.
Perino is a dolt.
September 15th, 2008 at 3:19 pmIt’s about beliefs, not concrete actions to support those “beliefs”. Once again, Bush is incapable of coming through.
September 15th, 2008 at 3:22 pmI’m afraid Ms. Perino has some serious arse kissing to beat out Frances Townsend. Who can forget Fran’s “You are such a man” resignation letter. Pucker up, Dana!
September 15th, 2008 at 3:32 pmI would appreciate Ms. Perrino’s ’skills’ if she’d only conduct these briefings in those cute camel-toe panties and a “phuque-me” bra…
September 15th, 2008 at 4:01 pmPerino confuses gender-blindness with negotiation-blindness.
September 15th, 2008 at 4:29 pmYa know, it is a lot funnier when Colbert claims that he dcesn’t see color.
September 15th, 2008 at 4:30 pmDoc Rock Says:
Perino confuses gender-blindness with negotiation-blindness.
September 15th, 2008 at 4:29 pm
______
Or competence-blindness…
Constitution-blindness…
reality-blindness…
Take your pick.
September 15th, 2008 at 4:31 pmGender blind? Was he gender blind when picking his VP in 2000?
September 15th, 2008 at 4:41 pm
