I think this is coming about because there were no high value targets killed by the raid. In fact, most killed were civilian women and children.

The statement looks like there is wiggle room for high value targets but the US better be damn sure of its target. Another possibility is that this was more of a PR stunt by the Bush administration to bolster John McCain’s candidacy for President. With this bunch you never know.

Despite McCain’s best efforts to hold on to the idea that Iraq is the central front of the war on terror, this development shows how wrong he is. This is the central front. By distracting ourselves in Iraq and jumping in bed with Musharraf we helped create this situation, which has let al-Qaeda find protection in the FATA and NWFP of Pakistan, an area that has not and, at this point, cannot be controlled by the central government in Islamabad. Furthermore, the ISI is aiding al-Qaeda and the Taliban in these areas and essentially helping them launch attacks against US forces in Afghanistan. I agree with Lafferty that unfortunately we do not have the moral high ground because of our Iraq escapades. Nevertheless, this has much higher stakes than Iraq because they have nuclear weapons and the government is hanging on by a thread. This is very serious.

Didn’t see this coming. Over two years ago the NY Times reported that the Bush administration was thinking about over throwing President Musharraf based on intelligence that claimed they didn’t think such a move would create chaos within Pakistan. Well what did they think such a move would create?

Now we are looking at a new regime with anti-USA sentiment which I guess to the Bushites is better than a US puppet who no longer wants to be a puppet. Once again our government has armed, funded and created another enemy for the good old USA.

Of course this is all part of the plan to cause unrest in that region of the world and to keep US troops in that region until the end of time which may come sooner then we think.
