The Inland Valley Daily Bulletin reports:
Karl Rove, the former Deputy Chief of Staff and senior advisor to President George W. Bush, discussed presidential candidates John McCain and Barack Obama and gave his take on the legacy of the current president.
But hundreds of protesters greeted Rove before, during and after his speech. When Rove tried to leave the Marian Miner Cook Athenaeum, at least two people and possibly a third claimed they were pepper sprayed while campus officials said they were not. A bomb threat was also determined to be unfounded, campus officials added.
In his speech, Rove said he felt Bush was a “successful” president, but they had “done a lousy job of explaining” why he was.
Rove said he felt Bush was a “successful” president but they had “done a lousy job of explaining” why he was.
– – Uh huh, the biggest failing of the Bush presidency was not hiring a good Public Relations firm.
September 16th, 2008 at 7:02 pmGood job, protesters. Keep it up!
September 16th, 2008 at 7:02 pmRove said he felt Bush was a “successful” president but they had “done a lousy job of explaining” why he was.
– - Wait, wasn’t that the principal rationale for bringing Tony Snow on board? Maybe they should’ve tried Karen Hughes.
(snork)
September 16th, 2008 at 7:03 pmStone him!
September 16th, 2008 at 7:04 pmthis was Yale I presume?
September 16th, 2008 at 7:06 pmWhy does Rove keep getting invited to speak — to anyone?
September 16th, 2008 at 7:08 pmFrom the Karl Rove encyclopedia:
September 16th, 2008 at 7:09 pmSuccess: “Running the most arrogant, incompetent and corrupt administration ever.”
“In his speech, Rove said he felt Bush was a “successful” president but they had “done a lousy job of explaining” why he was.”
Because that’s how the public determines a successful president–by having it “explained” to them *why* they were so successful–by the respective administration.
September 16th, 2008 at 7:12 pmOh yes, Mr. Rove, I’m so sure you’re correct.
The only problem of the GWB presidency has been the PR!
It wasn’t a failure per se, it just appears so to millions of Americans and billions of citizens of the world.
I won’t bother with those pesky details, now that I understand that it’s only a perception problem.
We’ll just liken it to Mr. Gramm’s comments about the economy. Our president was only a mental failure.
PEACE
September 16th, 2008 at 7:13 pmWish I ‘d been there!
September 16th, 2008 at 7:14 pmRove said he felt Bush was a “successful” president….
….bwaaah, ha, hahahaha, hahahaha….bwaaah, hahahahaha….
successful as in WORST most CRIMINAL President EVER
and he does indeed…SUCKSEED.
September 16th, 2008 at 7:15 pmZooey Says:
Why does Rove keep getting invited to speak — to anyone?
I’d like to add — Why is an intellectual place so stupid as to waste money on a speaker of no intellectual value to their students? The administration expects everyone to sit down, shut up and soak the propaganda?
September 16th, 2008 at 7:18 pmHumpty Rove inspired Bush to spend too much time implementing Machiavellian practices.
George W. is the antithesis of leadership. No explanations, nor all the King’s men could make George W. Bush a successful leader. Fry in your own yolk, Karl…
September 16th, 2008 at 7:20 pmCitizen’s arrest!! He needs to be indisposed in the lead up to the election, or it will likely be stolen!!
September 16th, 2008 at 7:22 pmWhen Rove gets a nasty reception at Claremont College, the Republicans are in trouble. It’s the training ground for much of the conservative think tanks in D.C.
September 16th, 2008 at 7:23 pmThis is why I believe my generation is one of the greatest. Give those Rethugs hell!
September 16th, 2008 at 7:23 pmIf they could lie us into a war why couldn’t they lie us into believing that bush is the love child of john wayne and mr. smith goes to washington?
September 16th, 2008 at 7:28 pmBecause they could sell us the icecream dish full of shit but they couldn’t convince us it was a chocolate sundae.
Karl, you mean no one told you you can put lipstick on a pig but it’s still a pig (absolutely no disrepect is intended towards the real pigs of the world which are actually very intelligent animals)?
September 16th, 2008 at 7:39 pmRove sets the bar pretty darn well. Consider unimployment over 6%, inflation over 5% while wages increase at 3%, a war under false pretenses. How can Bush explain this in the context of the Clinton administration before him. Simple answer; he can’t. And neither can Rove.
September 16th, 2008 at 7:46 pmTHERE IS ONLY ONE APPROPRIATE RESPONSE TO A ROVE APPEARANCE: A CROWD READY TO STONE HIM UNTIL THERE IS NOTHING BUT A BLOODY PULP. (figurative, of course)
September 16th, 2008 at 7:47 pmThat’s nothing, Karl.
Every time you go to a store, or a restaurant, you risk getting a royal ass-whipping by complete strangers. Or someone might “accidently” hit you with their car. Your face is so well-known, you’ll have to go out with bodyguards for the rest of your miserable life. And even then, there’s no guarantee that some emotionally-unstable Taxi Driver-type won’t stalk you. I just hope it doesn’t happen to your kids.
How much thought did you give to their well-being, while you were busy making so many enemies? If something bad does happen, you carry an equal portion of blame.
September 16th, 2008 at 7:50 pmI think the best manner of protest would have been to make sure that no one showed up to listen to him, at all. Any air space/time he gets is too much. And I suppose he got paid, as well?
September 16th, 2008 at 7:50 pmIn his speech, Rove said he felt Bush was a “successful” president but they had “done a lousy job of explaining” why he was.
*
don’t feel bad karl.
everyday this blog is visited by
dozens of trolls who do an
equally lousy job of explaining
why bush was a “successful president”.
*
there just aren’t enough stupid
people in the country who’ll buy it.

September 16th, 2008 at 7:54 pmbarfly Says:
not many protesters inside the compound in Paraguay.
September 16th, 2008 at 7:55 pmYou must be new at this. The best form of protest is for there to be so many people protesting peacefully that the police panic and start shooting…..it’s happened before and it will happen again.
protesting is serious business and what these criminals have been doing is serious business.
If Americans are in the streets then and only then will they get it.
September 16th, 2008 at 7:58 pmanytime anyone sees rove out in public, citizen arrest him on the spot. if he tries to waddle away, taser him for resiting arrest.
September 16th, 2008 at 8:17 pmROVE = FAIL
It would appear to any logical thinking person that at some point these colleges would realize that the mere presence of Karl Rove has become a liability. It would be a shame to go down in history as the college where Rove was stoned to death, or something. Jeebus.
September 16th, 2008 at 8:29 pmKarl doesn’t like it when the stormtroopers are educated, flower & granola and throw rotten veggies at him. He can’t trust just anyone when he has to transfer the files to a new Blackberry at the cell phone dealer, after his old one get gunked up from the tomatoes and eggs!
September 16th, 2008 at 8:31 pmFred Says:
not many protesters inside the compound in Paraguay.
Protestors, no.
Blood-crazy latins, whose cousins who died in Iraq, si!
I hope they make the compound bomb-proof, ’cause the Russians might have a “training error.”
September 16th, 2008 at 8:38 pm“Rove greeted by hundreds of protesters in college speech.”
Tubby McTreason Rove is like fungus in that state. Kudos to the protestors.
September 16th, 2008 at 8:44 pmWhy is this piece of crap not greeted with an arrest warrant ?
September 16th, 2008 at 9:04 pmExcellent question, my dear MCMetal.
September 16th, 2008 at 9:22 pmRoket – “It would be a shame to go down in history as the college where Rove was stoned to death, or something. Jeebus.”
I would think that would be a triumph to be proud of – a place where they taught critical thinking, revulsion for lies and respect for the blood of the dead he has on his hands.
September 16th, 2008 at 9:31 pmFan of Man Says:
If he tries to waddle away, taser him for resisting arrest.
___________
But first, hose him down w/ ice cold water.
September 16th, 2008 at 9:31 pmRove is a hatefull, bloodless, shit-eater… where the hell is the revolutionary spirit that founded the US; he should be collared and pilloried. Made an example of what decent human beings will not tolerate anymore. C’mon America!
September 16th, 2008 at 9:34 pmIt would be nice to know his schedule. I would be happy to show up and protest peacefully (I try my best to be a pacifist) and support his arrest.
September 16th, 2008 at 9:45 pmBush = REPUBLICAN
McCain = REPUBLICAN
McCain = Bush
Why is that so hard for so many Republicans to understand? Are they stupid or ignorant – or both? sheesh.
September 16th, 2008 at 10:05 pma lousy job of explaining
Announcing the Richard Mellon Scaife Award of five million dollars for whoever comes up with the con that gets Americans to think of w as a success.
Um, ten million? He-llo?
September 16th, 2008 at 11:45 pmRove should be in jail for contempt of Congress. Instead, he’s stupid enough to appear at a California Campus…Duh…da guy really has brains…duh?
September 17th, 2008 at 1:10 amInfinite Jest to hang oneself, alas leaving frat boys competing over one’s dead body so as to found the new Skull And Bones. Say jump, say Geronimo.
September 17th, 2008 at 1:42 amMaybe we can use some Palin/church ideas on Rove, like stoning? Guess I’m going to have to start telling the churchies that Whore of Babylon crap in relation to Palin and the group and maybe scare the poo enough out of them to make them think twice about the GOP being for their interests, cause religious fundamentalism seems to be the only thing they understand about this election, it sure isn’t the issues that count.
September 17th, 2008 at 7:56 amwell ofcorse turdblossom thinks the bush admin has been successful its kept his ass from testifyin before congress and out of prison oh with the help of there good freind pelosi
