Would McCain veto Graham and Lieberman’s request for over $50 million in earmarks?

The budget watchdog Taxpayers for Common Sense has released an analysis of earmark requests in the 2009 Defense Authorization bill, finding 435 earmarks worth $5.2 billion. Neither Barack Obama nor John McCain asked for any earmarks. Joe Biden had an $11.6 million earmark. The Washington Times reports that McCain supporters Sens. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Joe Lieberman (I-CT) requested milllions:

Lieberman requested $35 million for “Technology development for F135 engine” for beneficiary Pratt and Whitney. Graham has $20 million in solo requests, including a $9.9 million earmark for a “Physical Fitness Center” at Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina.

Would McCain veto those if he were president?” the Times asks. Reporter Christina Bellantoni called the McCain campaign to see if he would veto the earmarks. “Update, 5:45 p.m.: Silence from Team McCain,” she writes.

    – - So Lindsey Graham will have a place to don his colorful array of spandex and leg warmers while doing his step aerobics.

Hell, no. What’s a few hundred million of our dollars among friends?

Whats even more ironic is that Palin appeared three times on McCains pork list.

    http://politicalirony.com/2008/09/03/pork-for-palin/

When Palin was mayor of Wasilla, she made McCain’s “Pork List” three times for requesting questionable earmarks for her small Alaska town. Among the projects in McCain’s Pork List that Palin requested was $1 million for a communications center in Wasilla, which local law enforcement has said is redundant and creates confusion.
Records show that Palin — first as mayor of Wasilla and recently as governor of Alaska — was far from shy about pursuing hundreds of millions in earmarks for her town, her region, and her state. In fact, just this year Palin wrote in a newspaper column ”The federal budget, in its various manifestations, is incredibly important to us, and congressional earmarks are one aspect of this relationship.”

    The Irony, it burns.

Silence is one method for maintaining the McCon-Pullin’ fictional narrative. Another is to stifle any investigations.

But their main strategy is to submarine the competition. Once Obama or Biden go under, they attach the Palin lamprey and she can flat out suck.

Not enough experience? Palin’s got more.
    Want change? She’s done it
Short on executive credentials? Sarah’s got the most.
Taken on special interests? Bridge, plane

Get her off! Get that blood sucker off them!

Ah yes, pushing off fair questions? A distinctly Bush like trait. That and widespread claims of executive privilege. Now it’s become McCon-Pullin’ish!

What’s so stupid about McSame’s simplistic anti-earmark tirade is that if he eliminated earmarks, it’s not like that money wouldn’t be spent. Some earmarks are patently ridiculous (most of Sarah Palin’s requests come to mind) but most seem to be for needed facilities and infrastructure, and if not funded through earmarks, would be funded through other means. So when McSame talks about paying for his tax cuts by eliminating earmarks (less than one percent of the federal budget to begin with) he’s talking out his ass.

That could be bringing home the bacon for CT or the P &W Division in Israel.

That’s McCindy’s most notable talent; talking out of his ass.

Um. Assuming that they are referring to the F-35, the development program has been funded to the tune of $40 Billion and the procurment is expected to be over $200 Billion.

What’s the $35 million for? Golden parachutes perhaps?

The only problem is that Republican voters drink stupid by the gallon. They only understand soundbites and campaign slogans, never even being interested in the truth. Low information voters are part of the problem we have had for the last 8 years

What my good friends Graham and Lieberman want aren’t earmarks. They are carefully considered requests.
