I know George Allen. I was in the Jaycees with George Allen (same chapter). His "Macaca" moment wasn't surprising to anybody who knows him. This is a guy who wore a confederate flag pin in his high school senior portrait. In proclamations honoring COnfederate History and Heritage Month, as governor he referred to the Civil War as "a four-year struggle for independence and sovereign rights." To present him as the face of GOP diversity in Virginia is amazing hypocritical, even for the VA GOP. He;s definitely not a "reach across party and racial lines" kind of guy. This does speak to the ongoing decline of the Republican Party in Virginia, so that's a good thing. And I'm proud of George for the part he's playing in that! This is such a crock.
