Last night in a joint townhall meeting, Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK) and Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) touted their supposed support for gender equality, especially equal pay. Palin called herself “a product of Title IX” and declared she and McCain would “create more legislation” to ensure equal pay. McCain jumped in and declared himself an equally ardent supporter of women’s rights, pledging his administration would go to court to protect workplace equality:
PALIN: I was a product of Title IX where legislation allowed that equal opportunity. Now if we still have to keep going down that road to create more legislation to get with it in the 21st century to make sure that women have equality, especially in the work place, then we’re there. [...]
MCCAIN: I want to assure you, that we not only have a role model, but we will hire people and we will make sure people come to our administration wherever there is discrimination. We will eliminate it, we will fight it, and if necessary we’ll take ‘em to court. We’ll do those things.
Watch it:
McCain’s determination to take discriminatory employers “to court” sure would come as a surprise to Lilly Ledbetter, the woman who sued Goodyear Tire for discrimination after she was paid less than her male coworkers for nearly twenty years. The Supreme Court dismissed her case because she had not filed it within 180 days of her very first discriminatory paycheck — despite the fact she had no idea she was being paid less.
Adding to McCain’s long history of opposing equal pay, he skipped the vote that would have allowed Ledbetter to sue, explaining he opposed the bill because it “opens us up to lawsuits for all kinds of problems.”
To recap: McCain opposed a bill that would have made it easier for women to sue over pay discrimination. Perhaps what he meant was that he’ll “take ‘em to court” only “in concept.”
Dumb Question: And Palin supported Special Olympics (including for her own son) by cutting the budget ?
I assume her tack is similar for equal pay.
September 18th, 2008 at 1:42 pmUMMMMMMMMMMM…..I THOUGHT MKKKAIN WAS AGAINST “ACTIVIST JUDGES”?
HE IS OFF HIS ROCKER
September 18th, 2008 at 1:45 pmThe Palin/McDepends Campaign Slogan:
Believe What I say, Not What I Do!!
September 18th, 2008 at 1:45 pmMcDepends wants to sue to be able to call all women “c*nts” ; and to use his Viagra on every woman he feels is ‘worthy’ ……..
What a lying piece of shit sexist………….
September 18th, 2008 at 1:46 pmWhat a crock their pre-”rally” planning sessions must be:
“You’ll pretend to know what you’re talking about — ”
“Right, Senator, and you’ll pretend to care.”
Ready, break!
September 18th, 2008 at 1:51 pmIf I recall correctly, when the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay bill was before the Senate, McStain couldn’t be bothered to show up for the vote, but declared he would have voted against it because it was just a boon for the trial lawyers and women just needed more education and training.
Roll video please…
Still can’t grasp that whole “youtube” concept, eh Gramps?
PEACE
September 18th, 2008 at 1:55 pmOh, and I forgot to add that “it would cause hardships for small businesses”.

September 18th, 2008 at 1:56 pmI can’t wait to see what Keith Olbermann and Jon Stewart do with this one. This is just the latest in a long line of town hall meetings where McCain has said whatever he perceived his audience wants to hear, but it bears absolutely no resemblance to his voting record or statements he has made in the past.
Particularly amusing is his commitment to “go to court” when his main opposition to the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act was that it would “open us up to a lot of lawsuits”.
Does he even HEAR himself? Or has he just become immune to gibberish?
September 18th, 2008 at 1:56 pmI remember Ledbetter’s case with Goodyear. Gramps McSame’s program with empty promises on equal pay will bite him in the butt. He was never for equal pay for women nor raising the minimum wage in this country.
September 18th, 2008 at 1:59 pmproblems like equal pay discrimination?
Obama: “You can’t make this stuff up”
September 18th, 2008 at 2:00 pm“Going to court” only works when you have a law to back your claim. McCain has had an opportunity to support laws to support equal pay in his 26 years in the Senate. He has not done so. Sounds like another question you will never hear him asked: What legislative accomplishment can you point to in your time in the House and Senate that demonstrates your support for equal pay?”

Palin isn’t too worried about equal pay, because both her current job and the one she hopes to get have a set pay rate whether the job-holder is male or female.
Furthermore, her current role is merely to BE female. Not fight for their rights.
September 18th, 2008 at 2:12 pmGrampy McGonnaDieSoon says – My friends I support equal pay for women, equal to 66% of what men get that is, those trollop c**ts should just shut up about this stuff, don’t they know that this would mean corporations and businesses would make less profits, now we can’t be having that, now can we, they are lucky we let them out of the kitchen and can wear shoes, now I am all for using women to get votes, that is not a problem for me, I can pander to women all day long because they are not intelligent enough to know that I am doing that, watch the Palin, watch the Palin, watch the Palin, you are getting sleepy, don’t ask about real issues, watch Palin, watch the Pal……Zzzzzzzzzzz.
Grampy you are such a liar, and so is you Caribou Nazi Barbie.
September 18th, 2008 at 2:14 pmThe latest polls:
CBS/NYT: 44-49, Obama +5
Quinnipiac 44-48, Obama +4
Gallop Daily 44-48, Obama +4
The bounce is over, the bloom is off the Palin rose, and McStain can’t seem to find his way out of a 3-sided box.
But, with the attempts to cage voters, and the upcoming racist push polls, we must remain vigilant!
Off soapbox now.

McTomorrow: “No, no, no, what I meant was that we’ll court employers to see what we would take for our campaing chest”.
September 18th, 2008 at 2:14 pmJust checked the Voting Record for the Ledbetter Act and if by supporting equal pay McCain means that he won’t even be bothered to show up to vote to support it, then he’s all over it.
September 18th, 2008 at 2:20 pmGood grief, Grampy. You need you some Aricept. Stat.

Believe me, we are being vigilant. And ready. However, it’s going to be a bit tougher to get away with voter caging now than it has been in the past. Even the MSM publicized the Michigan “foreclosure list”, and far more people are familiar with the whole concept of voter caging than they were in previous elections.
I heard the Obama campaign has already put the call out for as many volunteers (preferably those with legal credentials) to staff polling places where there has been any rumor that voter eligibility may be targeted, such as Macomb County, MI.
Yes, we must remain vigilant. But this year, we may get help from the media as well.
September 18th, 2008 at 2:33 pmHere’s a little bit of info McStupid. Labor attorneys don’t work on contingencies you have to pay them up front. We’re going to wait for the government to sue them for us. I’ll hold my breath. And with whose Justice Department are you going to sue them with? The geniuses that are in there now? Because frankly the women who aren’t getting equal pay have a hard time paying an attorney to sue her employer you idiot.
September 18th, 2008 at 2:33 pmMost of McCain’s policies are as hollow as a chocolate Easter bunny. McCain himself looks more and more, daily, like an old rooster on a rusty weathervane trying to point in whichever direction the wind will blow next!
September 18th, 2008 at 2:42 pmIt seems to me that whenever McCain answers a question he does not put much thought into the answer beyond what he thinks that particular audience wants to hear. He either does not remember previous answers to the same questions or positons he has taken in the past. I guess he thinks that everyone’s memory is as faulty as his.
September 18th, 2008 at 2:52 pmWhen he says ‘take ‘em to court, he means like a froggy went a courtin’ I’m sure. He’s owned lock stock and barrel roll by the ‘corporations’.
September 18th, 2008 at 2:59 pmand if necessary we’ll take ‘em to court
And who’s WE, McIIIrd, you and the First TrollopyC*nt?

September 18th, 2008 at 4:15 pmTake ‘em to court. Wouldn’t that employ the dreaded lawyers republicans warn us about?
September 18th, 2008 at 4:21 pmSo she got her “job” because of affirmative action?
September 18th, 2008 at 6:01 pmHAH!
Palin is governor of the state with the highest rape rates in the nation… yet she fired the man who tried to bring rapists to justice by hiring investigators to pursue the child rapists!
Furthermore, as mayor, her administration charged rape victims for the kits that would gather and keep the evidence necessary to prove their cases. Auto theft… no charge to the victim. Burglary? No charge to the victim. But a raped and assaulted woman? $1200 up front! :pffffft!:
Rape isn’t a crime of sexual need, it is a crime of dominion and assertion of power: putting women in their place. Helpless, battered, broken, belittled.
She believes that women ought to be kept pregnant and ignorant and unemployed and uneducated… look at her own family! How much time do her daughters spend in school? What sort of job are they qualified for? What kind of life can they make except as baby-breeders for some drunken doped-up drop-out!
As for McCain? He thinks with his pen!s. Too much testosterone poisoning.
It is all about possessing and controlling a superficially beautiful trophy. If the trophy get spoiled, dusty, or broken, she is dropped into the ash-heap while he replaces her with another trophy.
Ask Carol McCain about his respect for the woman who nurtured his family!
Ask Cindy McCain about being called a c!nt and a troll!p! Ask Cindy about being offered up to drunken bikers as “Miss Buffalo Chip”… which involved simulated sex acts with pickles!!!!! Perform oral acts on stage to a rowdy crowd and win a ribbon equating you with steer dung? Yeah, that’s respect alright!
Neither McCain or Palin has ever done a single thing to affirm that women are equal and hold equal rights to jobs, pay, credit, health. So, yes, they’ll lie in front of a teleprompter because some lobbyist pollster has just figured out that half the voting population is female. But no matter how often they repeat those lies, we just have to watch McCain eyeing Palin’s boobs to understand where they both stand on women’s rights. Lies are cheap.
