Former Bush adviser on working for Bush: Don’t want to ‘emphasize that on your resume.’

bushtexas.jpgIn the Texas Observer today, Anthony Zurcher describes how “no one’s been rolling out the red carpet” for Bush administration officials as they return to Texas. “For every Karen Hughes who lands a highly paid consulting gig, there’s an Alberto Gonzales, who seems condemned to wander the Earth in search of gainful employment,” writes Zurcher. Former Bush pollster Matthew Dowd explains why the Bush association makes it difficult “to make a go of a political career“:

If any of Bush’s Texas crowd wants to make a go of a political career, however, they’re going to have to do it in spite of their ties to the administration and not because of them, at least in near term.

“Bush is an anchor,” Dowd said. “I don’t think you can take your experience in Washington working with the Bush administration and emphasize that on your resumé.”

After leaving the administration in disgrace, former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales found it difficult to find a job. Gonzales has only been able to find work recently, providing assistance to a special master on a patent case.

Ken Duberstein no longer mentions he served on the Fannie Mae board from 1998 to 2007. Nor does he say he headed up George W.’s White House transition team in 2000.

But his consulting firm got over $1.8 million in fees from Fannie over a five year period. The Duberstein Group helped keep the regulatory wolves at bay while Fannie worked through its accounting scandal. (Information from FNM SEC filings)

Oh, and Kenneth helped John McCain with his 2000 Presidential run. Newsweek ran a story that year on his role.

Good! As Richard Clarke said, these people should not be allowed back into “polite society.” They should be shunned and mocked FOREVER.

  5. Marie says:

If you are still hanging with Bush after all these years wherein he has demonstrated his ignorance, stubbornness, belligerence, self-centeredness, partisan incompetence, and buffoonism then you deserve to stand in the unemployment line.

If you didn’t see what he was BEFORE you hitched your wagon to his, you were pretty stupid and lacked integrity to start with.

Won’t take long. Republicans have short memories about that sort of thing. Heck, even Nixon had his reputation restored to some degree among Republicans (at least, those who don’t try to claim he was a “liberal”). I men, look at the Nixonian influence in BushCo: Cheney, Rumsfeld, Fred Fielding… they’re all Nixon guys.

Christ, G. Gordon Liddy is even a right-wing media icon. That should tell you a lot.

I hear that there’s a lot of opportunities awaiting for those willing to turn big rocks into little ones…. Let’s extend the entire Dubya maladministration this golden opportunity.

    Cheers,

As Bushy is so gobsmacked with religion, well when it suits him, I hope the Devil creates a special hell for he and his associates, for all the hell they’ve caused! If they suffer by losing employment and investments and real estate, ad nausum, all the better.

The retired prosecutor in charge of the Palin ethics probe will wrap up his investigation by Oct. 10th. He will do so without the testimony of Governor Palin, her husband Todd, and most of Sarah’s top aides. This stands in sharp contrast to their promises to participate and cooperate with the probe.

We already had one investigation of this sorry quality, the Hurricane Katrina Lessons Learned report.

Can’t anyone conduct a basic investigation anymore? Why are the accountable people nowhere to be found? Fran Townsend and Sarah Palin are two of a kind. They present themselves as competent, but are mendacious in covering for their friends.

Gonzales is dumb as a box of rocks. He never would have had a job in the first place if it hadn’t been for Bush. It’s not at all surprising no one wants to hire him regardless of his affiliation with the administration.

  26. blue state bob says:

You worked for him, you propped him up, you allowed his to invade a country who did not attack us and resulted in tens of thousands of dead cxivilians and more than 4,000 dead US soldiers, you backed a president who watched the US economy implode and it was his anti-regulatory policies that were mostly responsible, I can add many more things. End pof story, you are responsible for the ruining of this country and are now whining about the fact it hurts your resume. STFU and plug in the toaster and take a bath.

The conservanazis are having a tough time these days as bu$h’s aura fails. Ain’t that a shame! Gonzo can’t find a decent job in the legal field. What would one expect from a two-bit gopher bootlicker like him?
The rest of the conservanazis will end up like bu$h. A painful reminder of what happens to a country led by incompetent conservanzi republikans.

Does anyone remember that no long ago, the brain-dead trolls and dittoheads would come here to tell us about the Bush “roaring” economy and that they supported this (mal)administration’s (mis)handling of the economy?

Now that the truth has asserted itself -once again- and it is all but impossible to deny, it’s hard to find anyone to defend Bush’s piss-poor record. Even the kool-aid drinking Bush cultists.

Yet another issue they were wrong, and most everyone else was right. Let’s not let them forget that fact.

Unless, they genuinely think he is even stupider than we think and thus poses no danger to them or other pizza delivery drivers.
