I know someone who had a stop loss in place only to find the sell executed hours after the stock hit the loss. Hours later meant that this person saw another 20% loss in value of the stock. Her 200 shares were crowded out by the big boys. Today's issue with short selling is just another example of the big boys profiting at the expense of average Americans. Both times the issue has been lack of enforcement of existing rules and regulations. Passing more rules and regulations is only a small part of the answer. Holding people accountable is a much larger part of the answer. Nobody went to jail in 1987 so it was to be expected that the same mistakes would be repeated at a later time. Unless people actually go to jail we can expect to see corrupt practices repeated in the future. This is not rocket science.
