Court orders Bush administration to release torture photos.

An appeals court today ruled that the Bush administration “must release 20 photographs of U.S. soldiers and detainees in Iraq and Afghanistan” that were demanded by the ACLU, which is seeking information on prisoner abuse. The court “rejected the government’s claim that releasing the photos would endanger the lives or physical safety of U.S. troops and civilians in Iraq and Afghanistan. A lower court judge had already ordered that identifying facial features be removed from the pictures before they are released.”

TP, you should really amend that headline to reflect reality.

Court orders Bush adminstration to release harmless college hazing photos.

    Or freedom tickels.

"releasing the photos would endanger the lives or physical safety of U.S. troops and civilians in Iraq and Afghanistan."

You know what really endangers our troops and civilian allies? Torturing people!

Are people starting to grow a pair? This is quite a precedent to set - could there be continued "trickle-up" accountability?

What next? Throwing Rove punka55 in jail for contempt?

    **crickets**

    Johnny B. Goode!

Deep down in Arizona close to Mexico
Way back up in the cactuses where it never snows
There stood an ancient mansion made of gold and wood
Where lived a a corrupt politician named Johnny B Goode
Who’d never learned the difference between Sunni or Shia so well
But he could pretend to chase Osama to the gates of Hell

    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Johnny B. Goode!

He used to carry his bribe money in a gunnysack
Go sit beneath a tree and count his Keating kickbacks
Old lobbyist on K street would see him sittin’ in the shade
Laughing at the doubletalk and flip flops he made
The people passed him by they would stop and say
Oh my but that little old mummy really hates the gays

    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Johnny B. Goode!

Once upon time the state of Arizona couldn’t host a superbowl
Because it was legislated by a group of white supremacist trolls
The bigots were led by an angry fascist who was a goose-stepping man
A millionaire, senator who belonged to the Klu Klux Klan
Johnny B Goode was a maverick when it came to recognizing MLK
So the old cracker donned his klan robe and voted against a holiday

    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Johnny B. Goode!

His mother told him someday you will be an old man
And you will be the leader of a murderous criminal clan
Many people will be blown to bits from miles around
To see you launch the nukes and take us all down
Maybe some day you will make mushroom clouds so bright
Sayin’ “Johnny McCain pushed the button tonight”

    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Johnny B. Goode!

  6. misshusseinmolly Says:

I doubt seriously that these photos would endanger our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan more than they already are. The people in the Middle East (no -- make that worldwide) already KNOW we torture our detainees. It's not like our denials are fooling anyone.

However, I predict the photos will mysteriously disappear. Just like a bunch of e-mails. And other incriminating paperwork.

I suspect that Bushco's reign of terror is starting to lose some of its punch. With their low approval ratings, judges are finally finding courage to stand up to this regime and rule in favor of the law.

Now if only Congress would enforce subpoenas and contempt charges...

So, when the HELL do the war crimes trials start????

  9. mongo Says:

cheney: "Photos? What photos? Oh, those. My dog ate them."

  10. ChrisSEA Says:

The sad part is we already know they torture people. EVERYONE (oh, except maybe Sean Hannity, O'Really and Drug Addict Limbaugh) knows they torture.

But at least the judgement was against them. Hopefully this is just the trickle to start a landslide of such things.

  11. DvlsAdvocat Says:

It makes no difference now. They will stall and appeal on other grounds, all in an attempt to "run out the clock" and get through to inauguration day unscathed. Leave the mess behind for those who are elected to either cover up (McSame) or to accuse of partisan mudslinging and political investigations (Obama).
The end result is that, safe in their knowledge of being bulletproof and blameless, Bushco will ride into the sunset to their new mansion in Texas (now that the ranch has served its ad campaign image purposes, it will be sold)

The democratic response to the Bush years has been sickening to me.

  12. miatch Says:

When the North Vietnamese were torturing McCain, did they have enough stones to call it torture?

Not if Charlotte Dennett is elected Vermont Attorney General. She plans to prosecute George W. Bush for murder.

  15. sacopenapa Says:

Bush & Chenney and Rice and Gates, and Negroponte and Perle and all those criminals from this imoral administration should be behind barrs waiting for their trial for Crimes Against Humanity and War Crimes. They should hang for their war crimes!

  16. Max-1 Says:

    .

I honestly think that people need to cut the cynicism and chiding concerning this Administration. Yes, I understand the travesty that they have brought upon our Nation, but when cynicism replaces anger and real outrage, accountability takes on a comical form. I mean, just look at how the injustice is covered on network news versus Comedy Central.

If you haven't sat in at your Representatives office, or written E-Mails(costs nothing) or participated in marches or rallies and protests, belly-aching is not accomplishing a darn thing. Sure, it's a "fun" way to vent, but what it does is grant license to the criminals occupying the People's White House because our Representatives aren't feeling our outrage.

We are, after all, discussing ...
    W A R
    C R I M E S!!!

... The People should take it seriously.

    Sorry,
    To clarify my rant...

What makes WAR CRIMES acceptable enough to turn it's commission into a joke?
