The conclusion of Magnolia Mom's initial posting: The economic crisis is hurting us all, that’s a given, but Mr. Obama is not the one I trust to help us through these hard times, and he’s certainly not my idea of a fit Commander and Cheif of the U.S. Military. I hope these people who enjoy the feel good rhetoric that Obama is putting out there realize that - in the end, “feel-good” has a price - extra marital sex, drugs and alcohol, and Obama - they all have a price that no one wants to pay. I don’t want that price to be my freedom, my liberty, or my families security. God Bless you all, and please pray for our country, regardless of who wins the election.

---

I can only speak/write for myself, but even in re-reading this post several hours later, I do not find a request for input. I find someone opposed to Obama as our next president. Magnolia Mom raised no such reservations about Sen. McCain.

I responded to the specifics Magnolia Mom raised in this conclusion; then she wrote, "I’m not looking to argue with you over the wording of my statement."

Just as with the specific of her not knowing the word "apoplectic" (which is not an issue; the assumption that the writer was wrong and she was right is the issue), her general contention that everybody is misunderstanding stemmed from several voices taking her to task for her approach.

With the understanding that Magnolia Mom may be 18, I'll be firm enough -- as I have been with the three of my four children who've already crossed that age bar -- to remind her that when everyone else agrees that you've said or done something in a particular way, odds are you've got either some aplogizing to do, some behavior/tone modification to tackle, or both. Typically, "they're" not all wrong.

That said, it would be wonderful for Magnolia Mom to join the discussion frequently; I apologize for not making that clear earlier. I learn every day from the topics covered and the responses, whether I agree or don't.

That wasn't a shot at you Bobwurst. It was a response to the people who claimed that they remembered her posting here before. I used your screen name because it caught my eye; I laughed when you explained your name and it stuck in my head. It was easy to do a full page search for 'brats' to get your ID for the google search.

I wasn't attempting to single you out but, rather, show that Google has no records of her screen name on this site (they'll show up tomorrow I'd guess) and someone who has been active on the site will show up in a search.

I certainly didn't mean to say you attacked her.

magnolia mom Says:
If this is the nice group of people who are looking to change America for the better with Obama, maybe you just made up my mind for me…McCain looks better with each post I read here.

Yeah, there's a real responsible way to exercise your right to vote; base it on which side is more polite on the blogs.

That's waaaaaay more important than the actual integrity, veracity and philosophy of either candidate.

I read this thread with horror when I got home today. I am a fervent Obama supporter and love coming to Think Progress.

However, I felt I was reading FoxNews.com in some alternate reality. Magnolia mom may have been less than clear in what she was seeking in her original post. That led to a flood of name calling, verbal assaults, and failure to listen to her. When she made it obvious she was searching for information to make up her mind all of you doubled your efforts to belittle her. How will we convince others we are truly different than the right when we act just like Steve Schmidt and Rick Davis did today when called out (again) on the carpet for Davis' lobbying?

magnolia mom, I applaud your wish to think for yourself and not immediately follow your family's political views without deciding for yourself that they are your views. Please make sure that the candidate you vote for is your candidate be it Obama, McCain, or one of the innumerable third party candidates. Voting is one of our precious rights in this country. I would recommend that you research missmolly's thoughts and consider them and then research and consider the thoughts your family has given you.

missmolly, thank you for being a voice of reason on the board and responding to magnolia mom's questions.

One other thing, as far as I can tell, magnolia mom has never before posted.
@16 - magnolia momsaid:

"… under Clinton, my family came very close to losing its income completely, since that income was associated with a government contract on a military base that he was closing in order to create a surplus that left America literally caught with her pants down on 9/ll - our military had been downsized to fund the surplus, and not prepared to defend us."

Nice human twist, but unfortunately for you, patently FALSE. Base closings were mandated over decades by the various Defense Base Closure and Realignment Commissions, commonly referred to as the BRAC commissions. The nominees for closure as outlined in their final reports were mandated to be closed when each report became law, if not rejected in their entirety by the President. Each President—Bush, Clinton and then another Bush—struggled with this issue. Your base was unfortunately selected during the Clinton administration, but could have been during the occupation of the White House by either Bush.

President Clinton, his Secretary of Defense and other members of his administration had NOTHING more to do with this than either the present President Bush or his father, or any members of their respective administrations. ALL three must be held blameless for these outcomes.

If you want to blame someone, loft the ball at President Reagan, as he led the effort to create an expansion of forces which was unsustainable, when coupled by his economic policies and tax reduction strategies. Even the first Bush administration was saddled by this albatross!

Grow up, get your facts straight, and quit blaming Clinton. Your claims are utterly without merit. I know, as a well informed citizen and longtime member of the US Army.

If all democrats are as hateful as ya’ll have been to me (with Molly as the exception), I will vote republican on principle.

This does not sound like an 18 year old... maybe 8.

But if by chance you are of voting age, please check out the issues and vote in your and your children's best interest.

Personally, I think he’s not going for the “irish catholic” vote, he’s going for the “south boston-throw bricks at the schoolbus” vote…

Like I said earlier, this was in Pennsylvania. He's shooting for the White "Democrats" who really don't want the darkies moving into the neighborhood.

back on topic, you'd think that if mccain is going for the catholic vote he'd think about all the catholic hispanics there are. Just sayin.

Personally, I think he's not going for the "irish catholic" vote, he's going for the "south boston-throw bricks at the schoolbus" vote...

If magnolia mom decides to come back for some voting advice I'll try to be nice for missmolly but I hope magnolia mom sticks to the thread topic next time and holds off on the religious references.

Because if there is a God, I doubt he/she cares if we're American or not.

Zoo,

Like you, me thinks mag mom is a lying troll. Not sure which one, but I am sure it is one we have seen before under a different name/names.

I find the "I am 18 and a mom" act kinda weak, don't you?

Bobwurst Says:

magnolia mom, if you’re really 18, why are you magnolia mom? I’m Bobwurst because I like brats and beer. Most moms are older than 18.

Unless they are Sarahcuda's kids.
