McCain: New coal plants ‘will increase greenhouse gas emissions dramatically.’»

Today, Sen. Joe Biden’s criticism of “dirty coal plants,” first reported by TP’s Wonk Room, was picked up by the Drudge Report. The McCain campaign held a press call this afternoon with former Sen. George Allen (R-VA) and mining industry lobbyist Scott McInnis (R-CO) to attack Biden’s comments. But McCain himself attacked coal plants last week, saying they “will increase greenhouse gas emissions dramatically.” In a Sept. 15 townhall meeting, McCain voiced opposition to mountaintop removal coal mining, then continued:

We’re going to build new plants that generate energy, my friends, we’re going to build them. We’ve got to. There’s an increased demand for it. And it seems to me, it’s going to be coal, which I believe will increase greenhouse gas emissions dramatically, or it’s going to be nuclear, or it’s going to be clean coal technology.

Watch it:

Carbon capture and sequestration (sometimes described as “clean coal” technology) is still in development, and McCain has called fighting global warming part of his “top priority” of national security. Is McCain saying “no” to new coal? For more, go to the Wonk Room.

What McCain is actually saying, are “words” which when strung together create “sentences” that people can “listen” to until he stops saying them–the end.

He’s very clear here. he is for being against new coal plants. That way he can be against being for being against new coal plants. And being for being against being for new coal plants. How can he possibly be any clearer? I swear if you libs stopped smoking the hippy lettuce you’d be a lot less confused.

I think a problem for Obama and Biden is that Biden seems to oppose clean coal:

And Obama seems to be for it:

Has Obama taken a more recent position that’s more in line with what Biden is saying?

Additionally, what McCain is saying in this clip doesn’t sound right. I’d like to see the whole comment in context to see if he misspoke or if there is some explanation for his seeming support for coal exploration and his acknowledgement that it will dramatically increase greenhouse gas emissions.

You’re off topic backup, but I answer anyway. Even though the Obama links you provided don’t seem to function. It doesn’t matter. Obama is the head of the ticket, it’s his views that matter. Obama will listen to all points of view, he’s already said that one of the reasons he chose biden is because joe will speak his mind.

Here’s the hard part for you republibots. Obama doesn’t want yes men surrounding him. He want different points of view. I know that’s scary to you, but you’ll come to appreciate it once you get used to breathing air that isn’t filtered through your rectum.

And if it’s a problem for the VP and P candidate to hold different views on an issue, logic would dictate that it’s a larger problem for the P candidate to hold two views on the same issue, at the same time.

He’s such a maverick, he doesn’t even agree with his own campaign!

Pfff, it’s no problem. A candidate simultaneously holding two views on the same issue at the same time is perfectly in keeping with the quantum superposition principle of American politics.

Whoops, looks like the coal companies forgot to send in their monthly support checks directly to John McCain.
