A new Ipsos/McClatchy online poll finds that “a solid majority of 57 percent thinking that the country can win the war on terrorism but a similar majority of 54 percent saying that the country is NOT winning it. … If Americans are turning more pessimistic about the so-called war on terrorism, it could present a challenge for McCain.”
WE ARE !!

So far , he hasn’t been able to stop lying , so now he’s facing 2 big challenges ………
September 23rd, 2008 at 11:42 amTerrorism is a tactic. How do you “win” against a tactic?

And terror is an emotion. How do you defeat an emotion?

It would be false to claim that the more one stirs the bees nest, the less one gets stung…

Bush effectively suggested taking on Syria and Iran at the UN. He called them sponsors of terror.
September 23rd, 2008 at 11:48 amExperts report that torture creates more terrorists. McCain openly admitted that he broke under torture, confessing to committing the same crimes that “Hanoi Jane” accused the US of.
He knows first hand that torture never reliably produces intelligence, only war propaganda, fear, and seething hatred.
Yet McCain voted in favor of torture.
September 23rd, 2008 at 11:51 amThe whole name, “War On Terror” is false in its face. Could you win a “War on Love”? If that is possible, so is “winning” “the war on terror.”
GAY!

Does that “sponsorship of terror” count Syria torturing our renditioned detainees in their secret prisons? Cause if that’s the case, he may have a point.
September 23rd, 2008 at 11:53 amIn a way, we are winning…
Consider, the reason why the terrorists hate and attacked the United States was for the freedoms that we all have and the strength of the United States as a moral leader in the ‘free’ world.
Well, since we no longer seem to have most of the freedoms that we used to have, and the United States has been weakened on all fronts both militarily and financially because of short sighted self-serving goals, we’re no longer as big a target as we used to be.
It’s sort of the same tactic as saying you defeat a rapist by killing yourself…
September 23rd, 2008 at 11:59 amIs it just me or does anyone else think it is strange that in the last 7+ years, Bush has ruined so many things (economy, wars, civil rights, etc..) you would have to believe he WANTED to have this result – a complete and utter rape of the country. It is almost complete down to the latest grab for power for president paulson. The next president will have no money, no troops, no world standing, no positive reputation, etc…I mean, who would want that job?
September 23rd, 2008 at 12:02 pmMost Americans are right! You can’t stop terrorism by bombs and guns. It is a battle for minds and hearts. Bullies like Cheney-Bush will never understand the principles involved.

Not shitting himself at the podium has become a challenge for the geezer, let’s hope the nation gives him a long rest after losing the election this November!

Sorry, I didn’t get the fax w/ today’s talking points…
September 23rd, 2008 at 12:16 pmHussein, great point! The financial crisis is knocking the planned Ahmadinejad theater off the Nielsen charts.
People are mad and want retaliation, but it’s aimed at Wall Street, not Tehran.

We’re losing because we’re not lifting a finger against the engine which is truly driving the ideology of Al Qaeda:

Of course, that would be Bushy’s beestest oil buddies in the Middle East.
September 23rd, 2008 at 12:48 pmThe ‘war on terrah’ was conceived on 9-11.
It however, was a twinkle in it’s daddy’s eye long before 9-11 actually planted the seed.
There is absolutely no coincidence in the order of events.
What they’ve done with it has been no opportunity that was taken advantage of after an attack that was not anticipated.
9-11 was their ultimate disaster from which to capitalize.
September 23rd, 2008 at 12:54 pmThe Saudi’s changed their tune on America during Bush’s second term. In the past they opened the oil spigot to keep prices in line. The last year or so, the Saudi’s decided to make Americans pay. Then again, so did the multinationals like Exxon, Chevron, etc…
September 23rd, 2008 at 1:20 pmI agree with Fan Of Man – the question itself is not answerable. There is no actual “War” on terror and even if there were, there is no win-lose condition to achieve, not in the sense that we think of “winning” as in previous national wars where someone can surrender or sue for peace, or as in a football game. If we simply configure ourselves so that if fanatics of any ilk, foreign or domestic, religious or not, can’t have an existential effect on the country, we win. If we keep expending our national treasury and our soldiers lives on military solutions to a non-military problem, we lose.
September 23rd, 2008 at 1:28 pmI totally agree, we’re losing the war on Bush. Bush=terror. We’ve been told terror is to be fought in Iraq. But the real terrorist sits in the White House. He has terrorized our security, constitutional rights, and our economy.
