Writing on the Politico, Center for American Progress Action Fund Senior Fellow Scott Lilly notes that “there has been little analysis of the simplest measure of performance,” attendance, with regards to Gov. Sarah Palin. Lilly notes that she has an abysmal attendance record in Alaska’s state capital:
The Washington Post recently reported that, in her first 19 months as governor, Palin billed the state of Alaska per diem charges for 312 days she spent at her home in Wasilla. Palin’s staff has explained that it was appropriate to bill the state for expenses related to Palin staying in her own house because her “official duty station” was at the state capital of Juneau, where the governor’s official office and mansion are located. But that argument raises a different question: How much time did that leave for her to spend at her “official duty station”?
Assuming Palin did not routinely bill the state for staying in her own home on weekends and holidays, she would have spent no more than 85 workdays in the state capital over the course of her 19 months in office, even if she traveled nowhere else in Alaska or outside of the state. That compares with 168 days that the Alaska Legislature was in session during the same period.
Some Alaska legislators became so frustrated with Palin’s absence that they took to wearing “Where’s Sarah?” pins.
Nice choice, McCain — especially if you meant to smack your voters across the face.
September 23rd, 2008 at 9:52 amSome Alaska legislators became so frustrated with Palin’s absence that they took to wearing yellow “Where’s Sarah?” pins.
Seems her work ethic is as bad as John McCain’s. Why exactly is anyone going to vote for two people who don’t show up for work, especially in the middle of a crisis where we need people who are willing to work hard to clean up some serious messes?
September 23rd, 2008 at 9:52 amHow much time did that leave for her to spend at her “official duty station”?
Saaay, I thought is qas “sexist” to ask any questions regarding anything Palin.
September 23rd, 2008 at 9:52 amWhere was Sarah? She was in a plane, shooting those pesky moose, who were interfering with God’s proposed pipeline.
September 23rd, 2008 at 9:52 amqas = was. sorry.
September 23rd, 2008 at 9:52 amSo she really is like Bush! 85 days in the office, 312 days at home.
PEACE
September 23rd, 2008 at 9:53 amI’m waiting for the GOP to spin this — “Palin has 85 times more executive experience than Obama and Biden put together.”
September 23rd, 2008 at 9:54 amOkay, if George Bush was a decent Govenor of a big state like Texas, but then was an absymal President, what does an absymal Governor like Palin become as President (let’s not kid ourselves that she’d be President about six months after the election)?
September 23rd, 2008 at 9:56 amEven if you factor in a reasonable amount of maternity leave, this figure would be unacceptable if it was for the governor of my state.
September 23rd, 2008 at 10:03 amSarah’s a sideshow. Focus in on McCain. He’s a target-rich candidate.
September 23rd, 2008 at 10:06 amEven if you factor in a reasonable amount of maternity leave,
Isn’t that only four weeks in most states?
September 23rd, 2008 at 10:06 amI was wondering when someone was going to do the math.
A wingnut friend of mine started spouting the “143 days’ experience” for Obama in the senate (of course,m when I challenged him to provide a source or any substantiation, he ignored me) and then it broke that Sarah ‘Cuda had billed the state for 312 days worth of per diem when she stayed at home. I wondered how many days that left her in eighteen months that she could have actually, y’know — served as governor.
Now we know. A little over two months’ worth. Or, giving her weekends off, a little more than three months’ worth of experience.
September 23rd, 2008 at 10:06 amCan we get some replicas of those pins made up and send them to every reporter? How funny would it be to see throngs of reporters, covering their daily stories, all wearing a yellow “Where’s Sarah?” pins?
September 23rd, 2008 at 10:07 amMy bad. I miscalculated. Let’s give her four full months experience.
We don’t want to short-change her.
September 23rd, 2008 at 10:08 amFinally, someone Bush can point to as a cowpoke who beat his down on the ranch record.
September 23rd, 2008 at 10:16 amJohn McCain does not show up at the Senate. Sarah Palin does not show up at the state capital. If they are elected will they show up at the White House?
September 23rd, 2008 at 10:22 amDang, seems we are going to have some competition for Dubyas record vacation time. Will it be Palin or McCain that possibly breaks the record [if elected]?
September 23rd, 2008 at 10:38 amIts 3 am, the phone rings….
and rings….
and rings….
No one is home.
September 23rd, 2008 at 10:39 amThat much? Wow! Her experience doesn’t show.
September 23rd, 2008 at 10:43 amI think backup might be able to clear this up.
September 23rd, 2008 at 10:45 amRight-Wingers are hi-jacking a PBS Poll on Sarah Palin.
PLEASE VOTE AND SPREAD THE WORD
PBS has a poll asking if the voter believes Palin is qualified to be vice-president. There is a right-wing email effort to change the expected results, which is succeeding, right now the ‘YES’ is at 51% and the ‘NO’ is 47%.
Please vote and forward

September 23rd, 2008 at 11:06 amdbadass,
backup will have a “thoughtful but supportive” comment to her “everyday common sense” or some such crap. Let’s wait and see.
September 23rd, 2008 at 11:27 amEskwaya Says:

I’m more than a little surprised that PBS would hold this poll. It’s totally meaningless as I just voted ‘NO’ 3 times.
September 23rd, 2008 at 11:40 amclearly porkbarrel palin is a stay-at-home mom. Its a shame that most of the other working mom’s and dad’s in the nation don’t have the Alaskan taxpayers to pay for that luxury.
September 23rd, 2008 at 11:51 am.
I thought I smelled bacon, but it was only a sarah palin story.
September 23rd, 2008 at 11:56 amI’m not a doctor but anyone reading about sociopaths would put Sarah Palin in that category.
September 23rd, 2008 at 11:59 am-Glibness and Superficial Charm
-Manipulative and Conning
-Grandiose Sense of Self (feels entitled to certain things as “their right)
-Pathological Lying (lying cooly and easily and it is almost impossible for them to be truthful on a consistent basis)
-Lack of Remorse, Shame or Guilt
-Shallow Emotions
-Need for Stimulation (living on the edge)
-Callousness/Lack of Empathy
-Irresponsiblity/Unreliability (not concerned with wrecking others’ lives and dreams. Oblivious or indifferent to the devastation they cause. Does not blame themselves, but blames others, even for acts they obviously committed)
-Lack of Realistic Life Plan (tends to move around a lot or makes all encompassing promises for the future, poor work ethic but exploits others effectively)
Very much a mirror image of Bush….and just as Bush, not qualified to be VP, much less President when McGonnaDieSoon kicks the bucket.
September 23rd, 2008 at 12:12 pmHonestly, the only thing every American should know about Palin is that she is fervent in her belief and support for the End Times, she is involved with several fundamentalist Christian organizations (who are every bit as crazy as any fundamentalist Muslim organization). These organizations she is affiliated with use the terms radical and violent on their websites. This is not your mother’s Catholicism or your father’s Lutheranism or anyone else’s normal religion!
Read this post: End Times, Prophecies and more: How electing Palin endangers your life. It is a long post with 12 videos including her addressing a graduating ceremony at the Master’s Commission and accepting a big thank you certificate. The Master’s Commission’s own website says their values include violence and a radical relationship with God.
Religion is not a problem, fundamentalism is.
September 23rd, 2008 at 12:24 pmPlease read the post and watch the videos. It is TERRIFYING that this woman could possibly be close to the nuclear arsenal that the US has.
Just voted No twenty times on the PBS poll….LOL
September 23rd, 2008 at 12:27 pmAnd her hubby and kids also billed the government for travelling expenses. Quite a large amount.
September 23rd, 2008 at 1:03 pmAlaska is nothing but a PODUNK State. It’s so podunk that BY LAW the Legislature can ONLY work 90 days in a calendar year – that’s right – government is part-time in Alaska.
It is ABSURD to think that someone with Alaska political experience is ready for the world stage. ABSURD.
September 23rd, 2008 at 1:04 pmWhere’s Sarah, and how much does she spend on that hair “don’t”?
September 23rd, 2008 at 1:25 pmPalin is at the U.N. negotiating with world leaders about buying our nations debt with no chance of ever getting out of it, ever!
September 24th, 2008 at 12:59 am“—The Afghan president prompted an outpouring of mirth later Tuesday at a roundtable forum of the Asia Society, held near the UN General Assembly.
When Karzai said he had met Palin earlier in the day the packed audience burst into laughter.
The forum moderator said Karzai was “probably the only person in the room who had met Governor Palin.”
When Karzai, appearing embarrassed, replied “Well, I’m happy about that,” the audience again laughed.-”
GOOD GOD, IF SHE GETS ELECTED NO ONE ON THE WORLD STAGE WILL TAKE HER SERIOUSLY.
September 24th, 2008 at 6:52 amREPUBLICANS MUST THINK EVERYONE WILL SWALLOW THEIR BS MOTIVES.
