Oh, bravo — you caught Biden in a misstatement. Only you didn’t really catch it, you just cut-and-pasted from somebody else who did.

Yes, Biden could have stated that better. He could have said “radio” instead of “television”, which would have been more accurate. And he could have prefaced his statement about FDR’s addressing the country with “During the Depression, FDR explained the reasons for the stock market crash that caused it” instead of “when the stock market crashed” — the latter implying that FDR immediately addressed the country when it happened. And, as everybody knows (including Biden), Hoover was president at the time.

But by nitpicking at Biden’s words, you miss the point of what he was saying — that during tough times, a good leader can instill confidence in the people. Which FDR did. And we sorely need some of that kind of leadership now.

Joe Biden’s denunciation of his own campaign’s ad to Katie Couric got so much attention last night that another odd note in the interview slipped by.

He was speaking about the role of the White House in a financial crisis.

“When the stock market crashed, Franklin Roosevelt got on the television and didn’t just talk about the princes of greed,” Biden told Couric. “He said, ‘Look, here’s what happened.’”

As Reason’s Jesse Walker footnotes it: “And if you owned an experimental TV set in 1929, you would have seen him. And you would have said to yourself, ‘Who is that guy? What happened to President Hoover?’”

As to the sane amongst us, the only thing every American should know about Palin is that she is fervent in her belief and support for the End Times, she is involved with several fundamentalist Christian organizations (who are every bit as crazy as any fundamentalist Muslim organization). These organizations she is affiliated with use the terms radical and violent on their websites. This is not your mother’s Catholicism or your father’s Lutheranism or anyone else’s normal religion!

These wingnut rednecks sit in their rusty old trailers listening to Rush Limbaugh and fuming about the idea that liberal rich people run for office in order to help those less fortunate than themselves, like wingnut rednecks, who live in rusty old trailers. This liberal dogooding goes against everything they believe. They are committed to the idea that rich people should only hold political office in order to cut their own taxes, help their friends outsource the workforce, deregulate their crony’s industries, and push for government bailouts after the whole thing crashes.
