NBC’s Mitchell likens McCain-Palin media restrictions to experiences in North Korea, Syria, and Sudan.

Yesterday, media covering Gov. Sarah Palin’s (R-AK) visit to the United Nations revolted when the McCain-Palin campaign tried to back out of its promise to allow journalists to cover the governor’s meetings with various world leaders. Last night on MSNBC, chief foreign affairs correspondent Andrea Mitchell compared the whole affair to her experiences trying to cover the regimes in North Korea, Syria, and Sudan:

MADDOW: You have covered these sort of high level meetings with foreign dignitaries, getting at least one editorial staff member in the room to represent the entire network is standard practice, right?

MITCHELL: It is standard practice. It’s standard for the White House, for the State Department. And often we are in foreign countries where it is not standard practice, like in Pyongyang or in Damascus.

Watch it:

As Maddow noted earlier in the segment, “[T]his isn’t North Korea, we don’t just do pure photo ops with no questions.”

Digg It!

How dare you think you can ask them questions. What is the matter with you?

Our Respected and Beloved Brotherly Leader Sock Puppet Comrade John McCain and our Dear Leader Sock Puppet General Sarah Palin unwilling to “Meet the Press”? Their handlers must be getting very nervous!

Maybe Pallid can run for Prez in North Korea when Kim Jong dies.

Andrea Mitchell is still alive? I thought she was crushed by falling balloons…

I have a servant that wont listen to me or do what I want them to do. They show up at work when they want. They take alot of long vacations. They wont let me listen to what they say. They wont let me take pictures. They get free health care. They get a good retirement package. They spend my money like it was their own. Some collect a check but are MIA. Havent seen them in months. They call their union Gummint.

I am tired of being their rescue and their piggy bank.

    YOUR FIRED!! ALL OF YOU!!

  6. Mark @ News Corpse says:

Without submitting to questions from the press, Palin’s UN tea party does nothing to inform her or the public. She is no more a foreign policy expert today than she was yesterday, and voters are no better acquainted with her qualifications to be vice president. Of all the questions that won’t be asked, there is one that is rising in urgency: What are they afraid of?

Did Andrea Mitchell mention she is married to the man that bears a large responsibility for the housing crisis, Alan Greenspan?

As far as N. Korea, hyperbole much?

  8. ralph the wonder llama says:

Repub insiders must be really pissed off at McSame for choosing Palin. Just look at the differences between the logistics each campaign now faces:

Obama and Biden can campaign confidently in two places at one time, can take all the questions they want, without extensive prep and without resorting to softball interviews on partisan networks.

Grampy McSame, on the other hand, not only has to carry the bulk of the campaigning load himself, but so many resources have to be devoted to handling his unprepared VP pick to deal with everyday political journalists that it has to be taking a toll on the functioning of the campaign.

And she’s not even picking up the Hillary voters she was supposed to.

  9. Xisithrus says:

Why is Palin, a strong women, letting these good old boys keep her from talking. Are the McCain folks scared of Palin?

Why wont McCain let Palin speak? Does he think a woman should be seen and not heard?

  11. Mark @ News Corpse says:

Did y’all see Campbell Brown smackdown the Palin/McCain team for cheating the press?

“Tonight I call on the McCain campaign to stop treating Sarah Palin like she is a delicate flower that will wilt at any moment. [...] Free Sarah Palin. Free her from the chauvinistic chains you are binding her with. Sexism in this campaign must come to an end. Sarah Palin has just as much a right to be a real candidate in this race as the men do. So let her act like one.”

She has a history of leaning rightward in her reporting and is married to former Bush flack Dan Senor. But giving credit where it’s due, Brown has nicely summarized an argument not often heard with regard to the sequestration of Palin from the press – sexism:

I posted this earlier today at C&L:

In the Northwest, as Governor of Alaska, Sarah is a big fish (the Wasilla Whale?) in the 47th smallest pool of citizens. Now, over on the East coast, on the national stage she appears to be (or should that be disappears to be) nothing more than a guppy in an ocean of obfuscation .

  13. Xisithrus says:

Instead of knowing more I know less about Palin because the minions of McCain wont let her speak. They are treating the reformer, this grown woman, like a child.

She has a nice nice chat, fine, whats to hide? Where is the transparency reform requires?

She is a Rhodes Scholar, she is passionate and she KNOWS her politics. You may agree or disagree with her but you WILL get good ana lysis from her and an intelligent take on the issues

Watch the Palin, watch the Palin, watch the Palin, don’t ask questions, watch the Palin, you’re getting sleepy, very sleepy, watch the Pal…..Zzzzzzzzzz.

No questions because if she had to answer it would quickly become obvious that she is NOT QUALIFIED for the position.

  20. upside99 says:

I have never been much of an Andrea Mitchell fan, but when she turns on McDepends as well as Shep Smith at Faux, you know there is serious trouble brewing and stewing behind the Repug walls.

    Heh Heh

  21. spencers mom says:

OT, but has anyone noticed how many lapdogs the McStain campaign has named “Tucker”?

    Tucker Bounds
    Tucker Eskew
Tucker Carlson, the willing water bearer

Coincidence? Or were they named in order to use the excuse “No, I called him a little Tucker!”

    PEACE

Wouldn’t the Republicans have avoided all this hassle if they had just chosen two candidates who were qualified for the job, picked sensible positions on the issues and stuck to them, and could carry on a conversation with the press without requiring flashcards and coaching?

We got a babe on the ticket, says Limbaugh. He apparently doesnt want the ‘Hottie’ mom to speak. I think Limbaugh would just as well have a topless dancer for VP, something he can stare at while obscenely mouthing that disgusting phallic symbol of a cigar.

    It is in their DNA.

GOP 2008 — cosmetic counter gossip.

The McCain campaign is like the chatty teenager who doesn’t like other people talking to the cool friend she just made.

  29. StratRat says:

Palin is not attractive. She is not a ‘hottie’ – for christ sake she has had five kids, talk about a hotdog down a hallway. For anyone – anyone – to go on and on about her ‘looks’ simply needs to get out more often. Maybe to some on the right she is ‘better’ looking than the garden variety, missionary prone robots. Still she has a lot in common with that other administration ‘hottie’ Dana Perino – huge ass, short stature, nice Eva Braun smile, and she lies as often as she breathes. Palin is a perfect fit for the delusional.

Well, Shi’ite, Ralph. On top of that, I’ve more than one account that say folks start leaving as soon as the Swim Suit Competition is over at campaign rallies. Isn’t John going on first now, so the Party Faithful HAVE to listen to him go on and on and on in that raspy mumble?

I wonder how John’s ego is dealing w// all of this?

Any new, huh, bruises on Cindy?
