Palin unable to name any examples of McCain ‘pushing for more regulation’ in the past 26 years.

In her interview with Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK) tonight, CBS’s Katie Couric noted that the governor has said, “John McCain will reform the way Wall Street does business.” “Can you give us any more examples of his leading the charge for more oversight?” Couric asked. Palin, however, refused to answer the question directly, instead going on about how McCain is seen as a “maverick.” When pressed further by Couric, Palin was unable to name any examples of McCain pushing for more regulation:

PALIN: I can give you examples of things that John McCain has done, that has shown his foresight, his pragmatism, and his leadership abilities. And that is what America needs today.

COURIC: I’m just going to ask you one more time - not to belabor the point. Specific examples in his 26 years of pushing for more regulation.

PALIN: I’ll try to find you some and I’ll bring them to you.

Watch it:

In recent weeks, McCain has been trying to obscure his record on deregulation, which is deeply unpopular with the American public.

Palin is just so wrong on so many levels.

  2. Above the Clouds Says:

" . . . I'll have my staff get back to you" is the whole theme of the "We have nothing for America" Republicans. McCain is trying to get out of the debates so PALIN does not have to debate next week. She is clearly a bigger dullard than McCain and that bar ain't set too high, either.

    Don't hold your breath Katie.

  4. impeachcheneythenbush Says:

Clueless. And it would be laughable, if it weren't such a dangerous proposition that this person, if McCain wins, could actually be next in line for the Presidency.

  5. scytherius Says:

If by some remote chance these people win (and I am totally convinced of a Dem landslide), it's time to pull a Founding Fathers and start all over.

  7. stateofthedivision Says:

Here's where you see the Sybil nature of the McCain campaign. Recall the outrage over Enron and WorldCom? John McCain voted along with nearly every Congressperson in D.C. for Sarbanes-Oxley.

    http://www.govtrack.us/congress/vote.xpd?vote=s2002-192

Now, the Repugs are using the financial credit meltdown to get rid of Sarbanes-Oxley. How can McCain brag about it, if he wants it gone? The many faces, all of which can be seen simultaneously, of John McCain.

    Good luck with that....
No one else can find those examples either.

  9. Rich H Says:

Wait a minute, she said "I can give you examples..." then couldn't. It's not a surprise that lightweight Couric didn't just slam her on that.
If she can give and example just give it!

  10. SPiHC Says:

This is why they won't let her answer questions... Things like this happen.

But, if you had the opportunity to ask Sarah Palin one question that she was forced to answer, what would it be?

Leave your own question for Palin, or vote for other people's questions.

  17. tom Says:

Katie could just as well asked Failin' Palin to name one example of where she herself had pushed for more regulation. The answer would have been the same, of course.

Rumor has it that, when the interview was finished, Katie turned to her crew and said: "Now that's how you field-dress a moose."

  18. Michael Lafferty Says:

I ask you: is it just me, or is that whiny, nasally voice driving everyone else slightly crazy?

I believe that she is ill suited to being Vice President, but quite likely well suited to soliciting confessions from accused terrorists in custody wherever they might be held. I know that if exposed to that voice for even just a few minutes, I would tell her whatever she wanted to hear. Just to make it stop!

  20. DidHeJustSayThat Says:

So if more than half of the country could tell you exactly what McCain is up to, is it unfair criticism when it actually happens.

She can't take questions and they don't want her to debate, then why is she even on the ticket? They knew these things going into it.

    I hope they win.

  21. ohcomeon Says:

Oh my gosh - this has been one revealing day. When Katie can take you down...well you know the rest. The weird thing is that Katie actually seemed to be talking slowly and clearly, like you do to a child who is not that bright. It was like she didn't want to be accused of picking on her. Biden should probably take some notes.

  22. DidHeJustSayThat Says:

Find you "some?" Try and "bring them to you?"

These are answers to questions! They aren't 'some,' and you don't bring them, you give them, preferably soon after they are asked. Who gets away with this?

McCain is a flailing, doddering old fool, and Caribou Barbie might as well be Crack Whore Barbie.

Seriously, I've been following politics since the early 80's and I've never seen such painfully embarrassing behavior by a ticket that supposes it can run the country.

I keep thinking that we are witnessing the demise of the Repuglican party. Hastened by Bu$h's incompetence, sealed by McCain's ineptitude.

  27. wizard2000 Says:

Think of Government Regulations (as passed by our representatives at whatever level of our democratic form of government) as a Red Light at an intersection.

Traffic lights have Green, Yellow and Red colors. Green for GO, moving traffic flow along, maybe even synchronized to make traffic flow even more smoothly through multiple intersections. Yellow for CAUTION. Red for STOP.

Getting rid of all Red Lights (Regulations), thus leaving only Green Lights at intersections would lead to a whole lot of wrecks...or in the case of the de-regulated Wall Street, a meltdown.

If you've noticed, crooks fleeing from cops in high-speed car chases don't observe Red Lights at intersections. Wrecks and deaths often ensue.

So criminal-minded Reaganite Republians, like former Sen. Phil Gramm of Enron infamy, have been pushing for almost thirty years for removing all the Red Lights from financial markets, energy trading centers and even our federal agencies.

    Why?

So the corrupt conservative Republicans could give the "Green Light" to all their crony corporatist pals, letting them rob our country for as much as they could rip-off without silly "Red Lights" or government regulations impeding their rush to obscene riches...at the expense, the wreckage of everyone else.

    And the Yellow "CAUTION" Light?

Treasury Secretary Paulson, formerly of Goldman Sachs, no doubt saw the Wall Street intersection's traffic light flashing Yellow faster and faster, but blew off the warning signs. (Just like the Bush administration blew off all the pre-9/11 warnings of an imminent right-wing domestic terrorist attack).

Finally, all Green Lights (supposed free-market capitalism) is just as dangerous, therefore, as are all Red Lights, which one sees in one totalitarian dictatorship after another (especially Red Commie dictatorships). A blinking Yellow Light cautions against going to both extremes...which history has shown only leads to disaster and wrecked lives.

Is there any wonder why McStain is playing the "crisis/no debate" card?

His campaign is now proposing that this Friday's debate get rescheduled for, oh, let's pick a date, say, October 2nd, which, sadly, would make the VP debate just go away!

She really is a trainwreck, and seems to be proving far more difficult to coach than originally assumed.

Henry Higgins couldn't even transform this one.

  32. the Lone Voice of Reason Says:

She can't name any examples because this particular rehearsed talking point is just another thing she was told to say. Anyone can repeat words but not everyone, and in this case Palin, knows what the hell their even talking about.

  33. kasinca Says:

Actually the mystery woman is right about this. McSame doesn't have any examples of regulation. He has been a deregulator for twenty six years. He became an agent of change last week when he saw Obama was more popular than him. Reformer is not the same as regulator. You can reform by deregulating. You cannot regulate by deregulating. McSame thinks we are all as stupid as his base is stupid.

  34. the Lone Voice of Reason Says:

I really believe that she had no idea of any pushing for regulation by McCain, it was just a rehearsed talking point. Remember, they never seem to grasp the concept of something being easy factcheck.

Seriously, these Republicans, and NeoCon-Type "Demublicans", are thinking, WE will have another attempt at scamming the American public, perhaps the last, as Rome was financially ransacked at the end. I can hear them thinking what a bunch of dummies the unwashed masses are to continually let this happen. I can sense there is another "Tea Party" coming up if it keeps up, especially if McNuts and Sorry Sarah get in.

  44. Copano_Texian Says:

Statement by Senator John McCain, May 25, 2006:

Mr. President, this week Fannie Mae's regulator reported that the company's quarterly reports of profit growth over the past few years were "illusions deliberately and systematically created" by the company's senior management, which resulted in a $10.6 billion accounting scandal.

The Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight's report goes on to say that Fannie Mae employees deliberately and intentionally manipulated financial reports to hit earnings targets in order to trigger bonuses for senior executives. In the case of Franklin Raines, Fannie Mae's former chief executive officer, OFHEO's report shows that over half of Mr. Raines' compensation for the 6 years through 2003 was directly tied to meeting earnings targets. The report of financial misconduct at Fannie Mae echoes the deeply troubling $5 billion profit restatement at Freddie Mac.

The OFHEO report also states that Fannie Mae used its political power to lobby Congress in an effort to interfere with the regulator's examination of the company's accounting problems. This report comes some weeks after Freddie Mac paid a record $3.8 million fine in a settlement with the Federal Election Commission and restated lobbying disclosure reports from 2004 to 2005. These are entities that have demonstrated over and over again that they are deeply in need of reform.

For years I have been concerned about the regulatory structure that governs Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac--known as Government-sponsored entities or GSEs--and the sheer magnitude of these companies and the role they play in the housing market. OFHEO's report this week does nothing to ease these concerns. In fact, the report does quite the contrary. OFHEO's report solidifies my view that the GSEs need to be reformed without delay.

I join as a cosponsor of the Federal Housing Enterprise Regulatory Reform Act of 2005, S. 190, to underscore my support for quick passage of GSE regulatory reform legislation. If Congress does not act, American taxpayers will continue to be exposed to the enormous risk that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac pose to the housing market, the overall financial system, and the economy as a whole.

I urge my colleagues to support swift action on this GSE reform legislation.

  45. MrSquirrel Says:

Wow, that was supremely embarrassing for Ms. Palin.

If the McCain campaign viewed this as a jewel in its treasure chest, Gov. Palin would've been rehearsed on its wording so that she could bring it up on the spot.
A fourth-grader knew "reform" and economics would be major parts of the interview.

So -- either Gov. Palin isn't smart enough to remember the one example of McCain reform she was prepped on, or the McCain folks see his own statement as inconsequential.

Either way, she's a bad choice, and he's a bad choice.
Thank goodness, we do have a choice.

    Johnny B. Goode!

Deep down in Arizona close to Mexico
Way back up in the cactuses where it never snows
There stood an ancient mansion made of gold and wood
Where lived a a corrupt politician named Johnny B Goode
Who’d never learned the difference between Sunni or Shia so well
But he could pretend to chase Osama to the gates of Hell

    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Johnny B. Goode!

He used to carry his bribe money in a gunnysack
Go sit beneath a tree and count his Keating kickbacks
Old lobbyist on K street would see him sittin’ in the shade
Laughing at the doubletalk and flip flops he made
The people passed him by they would stop and say
Oh my but that little old mummy really hates the gays

    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Johnny B. Goode!

Once upon time the state of Arizona couldn’t host a superbowl
Because it was legislated by a group of white supremacist trolls
The bigots were led by an angry fascist who was a goose-stepping man
A millionaire, senator who belonged to the Klu Klux Klan
Johnny B Goode was a maverick when it came to recognizing MLK
So the old cracker donned his klan robe and voted against a holiday

    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Johnny B. Goode!

His mother told him someday you will be an old man
And you will be the leader of a murderous criminal clan
Many people will be blown to bits from miles around
To see you launch the nukes and take us all down
Maybe some day you will make mushroom clouds so bright
Sayin’ “Johnny B Goode pushed the button tonight”

    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Johnny B. Goode!
