0: Number of banking bills McCain has introduced this Congress.

Yesterday in an interview with CBS News, Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK) insisted that “John McCain will reform the way Wall Street does business.” However, she was unable to name a single example of McCain pushing for more regulation in the past 26 years. Today, the Hill reports that McCain “has not introduced any banking or housing bills in the 110th Congress, while Democratic rival Barack Obama has proposed five”:

McCain is the lead sponsor of 38 pieces of legislation during the 110th Congress, none of which have been referred to the Banking panel, according to a review of Thomas, a congressional website. Obama has introduced 130 measures during this Congress. Four of Obama’s standalone bills fall within the Banking Committee’s jurisdiction.

Digg It!

    Do-nothing McCain. AWOL since April.

Keep running your mouth mooselips, every time you do you open another can of worms for mccain.

  3. raynman says:

Hmmm, McCain must be using Jedi mind tricks on other members of Congress so that THEY introduce the banking legislation.

    What a humble, modest man….

Someone tell Sarah to get back to Katie with that.

Number of good ideas proposed by McCain = 0

Number of economic bills proposed by McCain = 0

Number of elected people wanting him involved in bailout = 0
Amount of good it would be in having McCain involved = 0
Watching McCain lose a debate on economics = Priceless

Could this woman not have a clue nah!!! she has been throughly vetted and will hit the ground prepared to be president. Hey cause all the witches are gone from her system

  7. Tired of being lied to says:

Are you sure? ‘Cause he’s the ‘maverick’ ya know, and I’m pretty sure a ‘maverick’ would have been bustin’ up them Wall Street and high-paid banker types left and right all year long.

    And Sarah thinks so, too!

  8. upside99 says:

When McDepends can’t remember how many houses he (McCindy) has or how many cars, he is supposed to help bail out the country????

    WTF!!!!!!

  9. DidHeJustSayThat says:

It is time for the MSM to acknowledge the Republicans are unable to lead. Half of the bills they propose have to do with praising people, places or things. Leiberman and Graham waste taxpayer money penning legislation to recognize the success of the troops. It is such a callously shallow attempt to play the partisan patriotic banjo in a time when Americans need to think about Americans.

  10. hanshiro says:

There should be a provision in the bailout bill to issue “Cleetus Cards” to anyone who claims to support McCain. That way people would have warning to back away if they encountered one attempting to walk and chew gum.

For drivers, they could hang on the rearview mirror, like handicapped signs…

For now, McCain bumper stickers will have to suffice.

  11. DidHeJustSayThat says:

That is success of the troop “SURGE.”

As if anyone has ever questioned they military superiority over the people they fight.

  13. Gregor Samsa says:

Yeah, but he has a bank account.

That makes an economic policy expert.

  14. the Lone Voice of Reason says:

Hey now we know why Palin couldn’t name a single example of McCain’s regulations there weren’t any.

  15. Gregor Samsa says:

Oops, I meant to say “That makes him an economic policy expert”

  16. jb says:

Wasn’t it great to see the Mayor of Wasilla meeting with the Mayor of Kabul? Both were dressed so nice.

  17. mk3872 says:

After claiming there is no seriousness to the economic situation up until 1 week ago, all of a sudden he is said to have shown “leadership” by cancelling a debate? And another falsehood is that his campaign is “suspended”. What a farce. He and his surrogates were doing interviews last night and his negative ads are STILL RUNNING.

  18. jb says:

Times is hard…..better count my houses.

  19. jb says:

McCain seems to have lost sight of shore adrift in a sea of delusion and hubris. Sarah can see him from Alaska.

No way, mccain hasn’t arrived yet so it must be wrong. Nothing can be accomplished without mccain being involved, haven’t you been listening?

Guess he will have to put his mickey mouse suit back in the closet for now.

McCain pushed for mortgage reform in 2006.

Bush pushed for mortgage reform in 2003.

Read both articles all the way through.

The Democrats blocked both bills and it became a dead letter until the recent crisis.

    Johnny B. Goode!

Deep down in Arizona close to Mexico
Way back up in the cactuses where it never snows
There stood an ancient mansion made of gold and wood
Where lived a a corrupt politician named Johnny B Goode
Who’d never learned the difference between Sunni or Shia so well
But he could pretend to chase Osama to the gates of Hell

    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Johnny B. Goode!

He used to carry his bribe money in a gunnysack
Go sit beneath a tree and count his Keating kickbacks
Old lobbyist on K street would see him sittin’ in the shade
Laughing at the doubletalk and flip flops he made
The people passed him by they would stop and say
Oh my but that little old mummy really hates the gays

    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Johnny B. Goode!

Once upon time the state of Arizona couldn’t host a superbowl
Because it was legislated by a group of white supremacist trolls
The bigots were led by an angry fascist who was a goose-stepping man
A millionaire, senator who belonged to the Klu Klux Klan
Johnny B Goode was a maverick when it came to recognizing MLK
So the old cracker donned his klan robe and voted against a holiday

    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Johnny B. Goode!

His mother told him someday you will be an old man
And you will be the leader of a murderous criminal clan
Many people will be blown to bits from miles around
To see you launch the nukes and take us all down
Maybe some day you will make mushroom clouds so bright
Sayin’ “Johnny B Goode pushed the button tonight”

    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!
    Go! Go! Go! Johnny!

Better not bank on Barney Frank

He brought the (fiscal) house down
    By Michael Graham

    Tuesday, September 23, 2008 – Boston Herald

“I want [Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae] to help with affordable housing, to help low-income families get loans and to help clean up this subprime mess. Otherwise, why should they exist?”

    - Rep. Barney Frank, earlier this month.

The Subprime Panic of ’08 and its $1 trillion (and rising!) price tag is too big to blame on any one man. But if we had to, it would be Newton’s own Rep. Barney Frank.

As Winston Churchill might have put it, never before has one man done so much that was so wrong, or shafted so many on behalf of so few.

Entire business sections of newspapers, including this one, have been dedicated to explaining how we got into this mess, and still the typical taxpayer is asking “So what happened?”

The answer is actually quite simple: Freddie and Fannie happened. And they couldn’t have without the ferocious support of Barney Frank.

Freddie and Fannie were supposed to be safe suppliers of mortgage money for relatively low-risk loans. If you could qualify for a loan, F&F would make sure the banks had access to the money to make that loan, cheap money because it was backed by the American taxpayers.

  31. XYZ_SW says:

Have we forgotten Freddie and Fanny?

Current members of Congress have received a total of $4.8 million from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, with Democrats collecting 57 percent of that. This week we also wrote about how much money lawmakers had invested of their own money in the companies last year–a total of up to $1.7 million.

  32. XYZ_SW says:

Both parties are responsible. It is silly to suggest that one party or one individual is soley responsible for this mess. Prominent individuals in both parties have benefitted from Wall Street deals and they are hoping they can spew out lines that the public will buy without checking for accuracy and their role in this crisis.

I am very dissapointed in the behavior of Nancy Pelosi. She might be able to do her job well for her own constituents and party, but she has failed miserably as a leader and to make matters worse, she is now trying to pawn off her own failures on republicans. 95 of her own party rejected the bill she voted for but she she states “We did our part.”

There needs to be more regulaiton on how financial instruments are wound up.

What we are seeing now is the unwinding of a lot of derivative market action that has no solid business as the reference organization.

Warren Buffet called right it 5 years ago.
