Under the proposed bailout legislation (according to Henry Paulson, Secretary of the Treasury), the US Treasury or agents thereof could acquire Microsoft for one US dollar, with no legal recourse for Microsoft or even its shareholders.

Again I ask, what is the bloody rush to get this completed by this weekend before the markets open? did we not hear the same cry last weekend? We’re still here aren’t we?
Well, I can answer that question. At 12:00 midnight Tuesday the 30th, the fiscal year ends and if the funds are not in place to cover the Federal Reserve and other entities, the Federal Reserve will no longer exist because as of this moment, they are bankrupt. But then miracles of miracles big daddy JP Morgan keeps coughing up billions for buyouts?
The American tax payer rightly demands answers before one thin dime of our current tax dollars and those well into the next century are paid. If that means that the Federal Reserve no longer exist that’s fine with plenty of us because the only thing this private banking cartel has done in its nearly 100 year existence has been to act like a parasite sucking the life blood out of us and in turn our once great country.
Keep writing, faxing, calling or any other method used to communicate with your Senators and Representatives, but at all cost, keep the pressure up and never give up. If our founders had, we probably would be ruled today by a King. The present occupant of the White House might think he is, but I have a funny feeling we the people aren’t ready for that nonsense.
Keep writing and calling. Make it clear that those who vote for this massive bailout on our backs will not have to worry about returning to their government jobs next year. Enough is enough.

texaslady, I kind of wish it were only selfishness because most of these folks vote against their own economic interests all the time. And many that I know that vote only Republican(I know some that won’t vote in primaries because they won’t vote against any Republican) aren’t selfish people. They’re the kind of people that, if they run upon a stranded motorist, would either fix the car for the motorist or take them to get help and refuse all payment. Assuming the motorist wasn’t a minority or somehow else easily identified as a Democrat. Their disdain for the minorities is small compared to their hatred of Democrats and devotion to the GOP. How else can one explain how, this year after incredible misrule by Republicans, by percentage more Republicans say they will vote Republican than Democrats say they will vote for Democrats?

A combination of being brainwashed and being stupid will do that to a person. I remember a conversation with a hard-core Bush supporter during the 2004 campaign who was going on and on about Bush and dissing Kerry. So I asked her why she supported Bush, what had he done for HER? The look on her face was priceless. She literally said, “well, you know, I’ve never really thought about that.”

It’s true that Johnny isn’t going to gain any votes no matter how he polishes this turd. But he won’t lose too many, either. He’s already down to the people who will always vote for the Republican over the Democrat, even if the GOP ran a three-toed sloth as a candidate.

What he needs to worry about is how many people have registered to vote this year just so they can vote for Obama. AND those people aren’t being reflected in the polls.

Lemme guess — these “tax cuts” would only benefit the rich; that is, the people who have already benefitted from the policies that have caused this meltdown in the first place?

Say you support regulation/oversight/stripping of golden parachutes = piss off the base (votes lost)

or

Say you support less regulation and more tax cuts for corporations = piss off Independents/undecideds (votes lost)
