sohbetSallie Mae put a hold on that and actually has the nerve to tell you on the phone that it's not is not good for students to consolidate econmically based on the current rates. So getting 7% instead of 10 to 18+ is bad? Come on lol.
cetCompanies like that have been pushing deregulation in that market heavily. They've removed Bedava mp3 indirbasic bankruptcy protections entirely. They've managed to get things federally guaranteed.

onoclea Says:

The president is the one who is supposed to work with other countries.....Our congress does not sign or hammer out these sanctions....they ratify them.

As I said, the language of your post clearly indicates the need and urges at every opportunity that other countries be involved in the efforts against Iran. That's how it works.

The U.S. is, indeed, Israel’s strongest ally, but that has not been the reversed situation. What the hay has Israel done for the U.S.? How many troops or dollars did they send for either Afghanistan or Iraq, for instance? How long does the U.S. have to pay off their guilt for not having intervened in the Holocaust…when the government KNEW what was going on?

_________

They bombed the shit out of Lebanon and tested the radar defenses in Syria for us - does that count for anything?

I'd counter that the U.S.-Israel relationship is much more client-patron than you think. We give them arms and money, and they give us security technology, intelligence, and conflict-on-demand whenever we need it. At the same time, Israel has also deregulated their economy from a socialist state to a Friedmanesque free-market paradise.

urges the President to lead a sustained, serious, and forceful effort at regional diplomacy to support the legitimate governments in the region against Iranian efforts to destabilize them

comon guys, don't try to make it read the way you want it to.

I despise our relationship with Israel too but this is not about that.....

Be careful or the trolls will be saying we are anti-semite for criticizing Israel.......I'm not anti-Jew. They are Arabs too. I am strongly against the things Israel has been doing for many years now.

Let's see -- if Iran decided it was in their best interests to halt and inspect all ships and cargo entering the United States, how would we react? How about if they wanted to inspect planes, trains, and other vehicles? My guess is that we wouldn't be pleased about it, and we'd react accordingly.

This would indeed amount to a blockade, a step which shouldn't even be considered unless and until we are ready to declare war. And if we're the aggressor, we shouldn't count on the sympathy of the rest of the world.

onoclea Says:

You are all aware that the Dems penned these non binding resolutions? Not that they didn’t get some Repubs to eagerly sign on. I have some serious doubts about the judgement of the Dems that put these bills together in the first place.

This is true. AIPAC lobbied hard for this resolution, and it was introduced by the Democrats. It's way past time to stop automatically to continue supporting Israel, NO MATTER WHAT, by both sides of the aisle. The U.S. is, indeed, Israel's strongest ally, but that has not been the reversed situation. What the hay has Israel done for the U.S.? How many troops or dollars did they send for either Afghanistan or Iraq, for instance? How long does the U.S. have to pay off their guilt for not having intervened in the Holocaust...when the government KNEW what was going on? But explain to me why not dealing with that Holocaust is really any different than Rwanda or now, Dafur? Just because the ancient scriptures were written by the very people who declared themselves the "Chosen," the land of Palestine the "promised land?"

Read for yourself. Personally, I was very concerned that Dems would compose this resolution for itchy finger Bush.

Res 362
Resolved by the House of Representatives (the Senate concurring), That Congress--
(1) declares that preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapons capability, through all appropriate economic, political, and diplomatic means, is vital to the national security interests of the United States and must be dealt with urgently;
(2) urges the President, in the strongest of terms, to immediately use his existing authority to impose sanctions on--
(A) the Central Bank of Iran and any other Iranian bank engaged in proliferation activities or the support of terrorist groups;
(B) international banks which continue to conduct financial transactions with proscribed Iranian banks;
(C) energy companies that have invested $20,000,000 or more in the Iranian petroleum or natural gas sector in any given year since the enactment of the Iran Sanctions Act of 1996; and
(D) all companies which continue to do business with Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps;
(3) demands that the President initiate an international effort to immediately and dramatically increase the economic, political, and diplomatic pressure on Iran to verifiably suspend its nuclear enrichment activities by, inter alia, prohibiting the export to Iran of all refined petroleum products; imposing stringent inspection requirements on all persons, vehicles, ships, planes, trains, and cargo entering or departing Iran; and prohibiting the international movement of all Iranian officials not involved in negotiating the suspension of Iran's nuclear program; and
(4) urges the President to lead a sustained, serious, and forceful effort at regional diplomacy to support the legitimate governments in the region against Iranian efforts to destabilize them, to reassure our friends and allies that the United States supports them in their resistance to Iranian efforts at hegemony, and to make clear to the Government of Iran that the United States will protect America's vital national security interests in the Middle East.
