Da5id Says:But how dare you try to deny the rights of others because you don’t want to have to explain it to your ugly child.

RIGHT!!! PROPS TO DA5ID!!! Just because you vote yes of Prop 8 doesn't mean homeosexuality is going to go away. Its still going to be there and the children are going to figure it out. Who cares what someone else is doing or having sex with. Its there life and there life style. Your not in their bedroom with them. How would you like it if a bill passed that prevented you from getting hitched to the one you love. Its absolutly rediculous. Love is Love....Wouldn't you rather live in a world of people who love each other rather than hatred. Come on get your priority right...Good Job Google

This seems like such an obvious issue to me. I suspect that's what people on the other side of the fence think too. Anyway, Google, well done.

I support Prop 8, not out of animus to any person or any group of people, but out of a concern for the impact which changing the definition of marriage will have on children, on religious freedom, on the freedom of speech, and on society as a whole.

What? Who sold you this faulty bill of goods? Show me the impact that traditional marriage has on religious freedom, freedom of speech and society as a whole.

We have a 50% divorce rate and I guarantee the other 50% aren't dancing in the streets. You think redefining values with the along with advancement in civil rights and advancement in human understanding is wrong?

I'm straight and successful and frankly it's none of my business if my neighbors want a same sex marriage.

If you don't want to marry someone of the same sex, cool, don't do it.

But how dare you try to deny the rights of others because you don't want to have to explain it to your ugly child.

We need only look at other states and countries that have allowed same-sex marriages to get a small understanding of some of the far-reaching effects that a redefinition of marriage will have.

Small understanding is an exaggeration. Try no understanding. The facts you state here are not only false, but they are extremely ignorant.

Let me guess... your pastor told you right?

Are you suggesting that granting same sex marriages in the Netherlands is the cause of a society-wide anti-marriage epidemic? That's ludicrous.

Marriage is something more than just a civil right - marriages have existed long before governments chose to recognize them, and it should not be the place of government to go and redefine marriage now. Vote Yes on Prop 8.

Well... by that method of thinking, we should still have slavery.

I mean... hey, it's been around LONG before the governments that invented laws to prohibit it.

Look... we don't fight religious wars in this country. If you really want to go on a crusade for god, move to the middle east. There are plenty of people over there just like you. They are content living in the bronze age and want nothing to do with redefining things that have been around for thousands of years.

Sounds like you'll fit right in.

No on 8... It's none of our business.

We need only look at other states and countries that have allowed same-sex marriages to get a small understanding of some of the far-reaching effects that a redefinition of marriage will have. In Massachusetts, teachers were allowed to require grade-schoolers to read books about gay marriage without informing parents nor requiring the parent's consent; and a Catholic adoption agency was required to place adoptions with gay couples even though it was contrary to their religious beliefs, forcing the adoption agency to close its doors instead. In the Netherlands, following the legalization of same-sex marriage, there was a general decline in marriage across the whole society. Similar impacts can be expected for California, and many other unknown effects, if Proposition 8 is unsuccessful. Marriage is something more than just a civil right - marriages have existed long before governments chose to recognize them, and it should not be the place of government to go and redefine marriage now. Vote Yes on Prop 8.

First, any radical redefinition of marriage is very likely to result in a host of unintended consequences. For starters, how will future judges logically prohibit polygamy if gay marriage continues as the law of the land?

If two men or two women should have the "right" of marriage, why should such a "right" be withheld from one man and two women or two women and one man or any other number of combinations? What about the almost inevitable legal and social attacks against churches that refuse to perform gay marriages? Sure, gay activists tell us they won't care what churches do so long as they can have a civil marriage ceremony.

But isn't that what they also said about domestic partner rights - that marriage wouldn't be needed if those laws were passed?

What, in the long run, will be best for our society? The preservation of traditional marriage, which encourages a man and a woman to wed and raise children together, thereby preserving social stability, or radical re-definitions that completely re-shape the family unit? Of course there are some gay couples who are better equipped to raise children than some heterosexual couples. But laws should not be based on exceptions.

The people of California should make its laws - not our judges. I've seen many rather silly arguments against gay marriage, many of which have indeed been homophobic. But I believe there are many good reasons to support Proposition 8. Space does not permit a full treatment, but please consider the following:

As is always the case, I am still trying to get someone, anyone to explain to me just how gay marriage threatens nongay marriage

If CA is allowed to legalize same sex marriage, then they will start teaching all our children that same sex marriage is "normal". Conservative groups are fighting to keep same sex education out of the public schools. There is prof that these teachings are already happening. A first grade class took a school-sponsored trip to a gay wedding in San Francisco.

If same sex marriage is to be taught in the schools, I think prayer and religious teachings should be allowed as well. I would say that if parents don't like what is being taught in the public schools then take them out. Oh, but CA is against that as well.

WaltTheMan Says:
I have a niece who is lesbian, but that was influenced by a father who abused her.
Ummm…. No. Homosexuality is not some psychological disorder caused by abuse or some other childhood trauma. Please educate yourself.
September 28th, 2008 at 9:04 pm

What you say is good to know, but could WaltTheMan’s niece possibly be a lesbian because she was abused?

Since you implore, “Please educate yourself,” what exactly is it you mean? To bit you seem to be saying learn something so WaltTheMan will agree with rf7777.

What exactly is it rf777 wants WaltTheMan to learn?

bit read this from the APA brouchure on same-same gender sexual expression:

What causes a person to
have a particular sexual
orientation?
There is no consensus among scientists
about the exact reasons that an individual
develops a heterosexual, bisexual, gay, or
lesbian orientation. Although much research
has examined the possible genetic, hormonal,
developmental, social, and cultural influences
on sexual orientation, no findings have
emerged that permit scientists to conclude
that sexual orientation is determined by any
particular factor or factors. Many think that
nature and nurture both play complex roles;
most people experience little or no sense of
choice about their sexual orientation.

bit reads this to mean that the cause is unknown, but it certainly doesn’t rule out abuse as a contributing factor in same-same gender attraction. Does rf7777 agree?

Does rf7777 know something that APA doesn’t know?

Google just had the 10th birthday and they seem to also have achieved adult understanding! My favorite search engine just got more points.

No laws should be passed to limit the rights of any percentage of the population. Minority, majority, whatever. Our rights are our rights, and anyone who thinks rights should be limited is an un-American fascist (that would be you, Tim 43).

PG&E (Pacific Gas and Electric), the utility company has come out in opposition to Prop 8.
Tim43 if you ever make it out to California: we'll welcome you with open arms (and maybe even a kiss on the cheek) then tell you how utterly wrong you are!

[Tim, you may want to check on parts of TX, AZ, CO & UT for that polygamy that you appear to be worried about happening if Pop. 8 is defeated]

GOOGLE FOR PRESIDENT.

The most impressively run and incredibly successful e-corporation EVER.

Hell, they even upset the investment crowd by offering their IPO through a lottery, effectively thwarting the "hot-potato" selling, price inflation and subsequent price crash of most IPO trading within the first few weeks, AND LOOK HOW STRONG THEY'VE PREFORMED SINCE!

Tim43 Says:
Prop 8 will most likely pass. But if somehow it does not, then I don’t see why poligamists, beastialitist, and every alternative lifestyle group will come out of the woodwork demanding fairness in the name of “equality.”

There's that cool judgment that we have all come to hate. Kinda like mccain claiming he had to rush back to dc to save the day, same fantasy world concocted in the darkest recesses of the human mind.

The perverts are mostly republican I would guess, much as the child molesters are heteroxexual church going members of the family values bunch, not homosexuals.

Whenever I see some troll try to pretend that the Democratic Party of today is equivalent to the Democratic Party of Lincoln's time, I begin to wonder if we should have national education standards, so that they don't make stupid statements like that out of ignorance.

Wow, google came out against prop 8. Shocking ... er' given their liberal bent am I the only one that is suprised?

It won't make a difference. Contrary to popular belief, Californa is full of traditional families with conservative values. California is not defined by the values of san fransicko as most of you think it is. California voters passed proposition 22 "Marriage between man and woman" with 61%. Four "rupublican" judges overturned it stating that it was unconstitutional. Notice that it was REPUBLICAN judges did this for the gays. The same party that ended slavery despite objections from ... huh ... democrats. Go figure!!!

Prop 8 will most likely pass. But if somehow it does not, then I don't see why poligamists, beastialitist, and every alternative lifestyle group will come out of the woodwork demanding fairness in the name of "equality."

Open up the tin can and all of the worms will come out.
