I support Prop 8, not out of animus to any person or any group of people, but out of a concern for the impact which changing the definition of marriage will have on children, on religious freedom, on the freedom of speech, and on society as a whole.

What? Who sold you this faulty bill of goods? Show me the impact that traditional marriage has on religious freedom, freedom of speech and society as a whole.

We have a 50% divorce rate and I guarantee the other 50% aren’t dancing in the streets. You think redefining values with the along with advancement in civil rights and advancement in human understanding is wrong?

I’m straight and successful and frankly it’s none of my business if my neighbors want a same sex marriage.

If you don’t want to marry someone of the same sex, cool, don’t do it.

We need only look at other states and countries that have allowed same-sex marriages to get a small understanding of some of the far-reaching effects that a redefinition of marriage will have.

If two men or two women should have the “right” of marriage, why should such a “right” be withheld from one man and two women or two women and one man or any other number of combinations? What about the almost inevitable legal and social attacks against churches that refuse to perform gay marriages? Sure, gay activists tell us they won’t care what churches do so long as they can have a civil marriage ceremony.

But isn’t that what they also said about domestic partner rights – that marriage wouldn’t be needed if those laws were passed?

What, in the long run, will be best for our society? The preservation of traditional marriage, which encourages a man and a woman to wed and raise children together, thereby preserving social stability, or radical re-definitions that completely re-shape the family unit? Of course there are some gay couples who are better equipped to raise children than some heterosexual couples. But laws should not be based on exceptions.

If CA is allowed to legalize same sex marriage, then they will start teaching all our children that same sex marriage is “normal”. Conservative groups are fighting to keep same sex education out of the public schools. There is prof that these teachings are already happening. A first grade class took a school-sponsored trip to a gay wedding in San Francisco.

If same sex marriage is to be taught in the schools, I think prayer and religious teachings should be allowed as well. I would say that if parents don’t like what is being taught in the public schools then take them out. Oh, but CA is against that as well.

It won’t make a difference. Contrary to popular belief, Californa is full of traditional families with conservative values. California is not defined by the values of san fransicko as most of you think it is. California voters passed proposition 22 “Marriage between man and woman” with 61%. Four “rupublican” judges overturned it stating that it was unconstitutional. Notice that it was REPUBLICAN judges did this for the gays. The same party that ended slavery despite objections from … huh … democrats. Go figure!!!
