New Virgil Goode ad portrays opponent with ‘dark’ skin and ‘bearded.’

Rep. Virgil Goode (R-VA) is out with a new ad that depicts his opponent, Tom Perriello, with a swarthy complexion, using a shadowy, grainy image of Perriello with a beard. As Open Left notes, the ad hints that Perriello’s “skin is dark, he’s bearded, and he’s a liberal who loves amnesty for illegals and gay marriage.” Watch the ad, side-by-side with a picture of Perriello:

Goode sparked controversy in 2006 with his anti-Muslim rhetoric. When Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) was elected to Congress, Goode wrote to his constituents: “If American citizens don’t wake up and adopt the Virgil Goode position on immigration, there will likely be many more Muslims elected to office and demanding the use of the Koran.”

Hopefully this cretin will get shitcanned by the voters. What a dooshbag.

  2. hussein toasterhead says:

Sadly, I expect this type of bigotry – and the attacks on mosques, Muslim families, and brown-skinned people who wear headcoverings – to only increase as November approaches.

  3. Zooey says:

    Obviously, Perriello is “passing.”

    **eyes rolling**

  4. JMOHR says:

Is it not time to go after these bastards outside of the normal system. Let a few of them end up missing and see what happens. Drive them out with tactics used by radical religious groups to drive out abortion doctors.

  5. RUCerious says:

This isn’t a new tactic, Virgil smears charcoal on his face before each klan meeting.

  6. Bullsmith says:

Looks to me like they made his eyes black. Is there no control whatsoever over false and malicious smear advertising? I thought free speech didn’t protect deliberate falsehoods?

  7. RantingTommy says:

Wouldn’t it be more efficient to report on the few times a Republican does NOT act like a bigot?

  8. Tawdry says:

Every so often these slugs crawl out from under a rock.

  9. unbelievable says:

That’s so appallingly Photoshopped that the only people it will impact are those racists who religiously vote Republican anyway.

  10. tokin librul says:

We need to spread sumpin on that “cracker…”

  11. McWars says:

I find it outrageous that Goode, that stupid hick, is representing the district including Thomas Jefferson’s university.

  12. nofltwlt says:

Someone should just label subtitle Goode’s picture as “Mark Foley” the Florida republican who likes male interns – not as much of a stretch as the dark skin and beard.

  13. larkohio says:

I am so tired of them trying to make it out that all Muslims are bad. It is so stupid. I am not going to paint any one group of humans with that broad of a brush. Muslims are human, just like the good old Christians. I’d vote against Goode just because he is a lying bigot if I could.

Someone remind him to read the Bill of Rights where freedom of religion is guaranteed. Stupid Mr Good!

So every bearded person I see is a terrrrrrrrrist?

I had no idea that my father, two uncles, and most of my professors in the 70’s were so “radical”.

Free speech doesn’t protect slander or libel. However, I don’t know of any candidate who has ever filed suit against an opponent for that — I think they just figure it’s not worth the time and expense.

In a perfect world, you could accuse your opponent of lying (if your opponent was truly lying), and provide proof to back it up, and the voters would respond accordingly, backfiring against the liar. However, in the real world, one can refute lies all they want, but the original lie still lingers — like the after-effects of a ripe fart. And that’s basically what the liar wants.

Has anyone else noticed that the GOP pundits on cable have largely been African American men? Do they think that if they can find enough “brown people” to attack Obama, the GOP has a better chance?

Race card, dealt from the bottom of the stacked deck.

    PEACE

does anyone else find it morally reprehensible that this scumf-ck is a member of the Liberty Caucus?

this is a politician that would have been railing against civil rights and supporting the actions of the Klan in its efforts to “protect White America” a generation ago. the tactics change, attitudes remain the same.

  19. unbelievable says:

    misshusseinmolly Says: Santa Claus.

I think he gets an exemption for having a white beard…

  20. Bob says:

Is the ad preying on voter’s ignorance or bigotry or ignorant bigotry? Maybe it’s just voter stupidity when you rely on one candidate to tell you about the opponent.

How much do you know about my opponent, Joe Smith? Not much? Well, let me tell you all about him.

  21. barrelhse says:

Funny- the guy on the right looks like a dick-licker.

  24. Zimzone says:

I judge Patriotism on Flag Pins made in China.

Goode isn’t wearing a Flag Pin, hence he’s unpatriotic.

Glad I could clear this little matter up…next?

  25. JMOHR says:

The traditional keeper of the truth in US politics has always been the press. It is the failure of the press to act as an honest broker and fact checker that has so debilitated our political process. This is a always a problem with papers and other news outlets reflecting a partisan bias. However, our news media has been highly concentrated in the hands of a few large corporate interests. There is less diversity, more profit motive and an absence of civic dedication in our press.

  26. tarazan says:

If Goode wants to know how Americans look, he needs to just walk in any airport, or simply go to see a football or Basketball game.
This guy is a paranoid person who needs a medical help.
He is scared to death to see another citizen’s color is different than his..
    What a sick guy…!

  27. stateofthedivision says:

Outside of Charlottesville, Virgil’s district is mostly xenophobic. I spent thirty years in Virginia, much of it that very region.

As a graduate of UVA, I recall many conservative students in attendance. It was not a hotbed of protests during the Vietnam War. That said, Charlottesville votes mostly blue.

My siblings are in Lynchburg and Farmville. Believe me, racism is alive and well.

Using pictures, Virgil Goode blatantly lied in his add. And these are the people we’re supposed to trust on the Wall Street bailout? How do I know he’s not lying in that regard?

  28. Bobwurst says:

So did the Khatola Hussien Khomnenie… I say we shoot Santa on sight folks, we can’t trust that bearded terrist. He sneaks around in the middle of the night breaking into people’s houses, I mean come on folks. Don’t let him bribe you!

  29. tombaker says:

Come on Virgil, stop hiding your pointy white hood under a bushel. Let it shine, crackerboy, let it shine.

  30. Doc Rock says:

Virgil gives pond scum a Goode name!

  32. Luis M says:

    Santa’s not a terrrrist.

He’s a commie. Hence the red suit, and giving away toys instead of selling them in a good, Capitalistic way.

  33. d49nj says:

Hey Goode, take a lesson from McCain the more smear you throw out the more comes back to you. The American people are sick and tired being treated like we are stupid or fool enough to
brainwashed or conditioned by weak, evil, hateful people like you. Have you read the Constitution lately? Follow the Ten Commandments daily? NOT THIS TIME

  34. Max-1 says:

    .

    In the 21st Century is’t the Muslim…

  35. GL2814 says:

    SEIG HEIL, Herr Goode!

    What an idiot.

  36. singe_101 says:

Sadly being anti-Islam would not be a stretch in representing the views of most districts, as Jim Crow was in the South and one of the reasons we interned the Japanese.

This discrimination obviously in unacceptable if we believe in civil rights in any form, but some might not really.
