Tonight, CBS’s Katie Couric released her latest interviews with Sen. Joe Biden (D-DE) and Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK), during which she asked both of them about Roe v. Wade and the Supreme Court. Palin could not identify any other Supreme Court case she disagreed with, but said as Vice President she “wouldn’t be in a position of changing those things” anyway:
Couric: What other Supreme Court decisions do you disagree with?
Palin: Well, let’s see. There’s, of course in the great history of America there have been rulings, that’s never going to be absolute consensus by every American. And there are those issues, again, like Roe v. Wade, where I believe are best held on a state level and addressed there. So you know, going through the history of America, there would be others but …
Couric: Can you think of any?
Palin: Well, I could think of, any again, that could be best dealt with on a more local level. Maybe I would take issue with. But, you know, as mayor, and then as governor and even as a vice president, if I’m so privileged to serve, wouldn’t be in a position of changing those things but in supporting the law of the land as it reads today.
Watch it:
Answering the same question, Biden discussed the Supreme Court case overturning the Violence Against Women Act.
I’m sure she’d get fully behind the Dred Scott decision.

October 1st, 2008 at 7:49 pmHow many members of the Supreme Court can she name? Does she know how many there are? Does she know that one is black and a complete useless dope? Does she know who Fat Tony refers too? Can she name the chief justice? Can she tell you how the chief justice and the justice appointed just before him deceived those who approved their nomination?
WTF does she know? We could do this with just about any topic.

Ms Palin is just the bestest little submissive authoritarian.

October 1st, 2008 at 7:57 pmHow to make an alcoholic:
1. One part Sarah Palin
October 1st, 2008 at 8:01 pm2. One television camera
3. One television reporter
4. Several questions some including multiple parts
5. Watch Sarah Palin stir
6. Listen as Sarah Palin spins the questions into a pseudo- cheerleading routine
7. Force yourself to listen to more non-answer answers
8. Go to bar
9. Start drinking heavily to forget every and all things
Sarah Palin
Sarah Palin, the submissive dismissive.
October 1st, 2008 at 8:02 pmI know that Sarah Palin has this great reputation as a debater, based on her strengths in not answering questions creatively, and given the format changes for teh debate, will probably come off tomorrow night without any of the kinds of gaffes that Katie Couric has exposed.
But even if the two candidates just soberly talk about issues side-by-side, I can’t see her convincing anyone who’s paying attention that she’s the equal of Biden.
Maybe I’m just feeling better because the public at large finally reacted to the Obama-McCain debate the same way I did. But it’s going to be interesting.
October 1st, 2008 at 8:02 pmYou see, Sarah, we are concerned with:
1)the machines saying McCain/Palin won
2)McCain dying
3)you appointing one or two to the Supremes
Understand now?
October 1st, 2008 at 8:03 pmI have 5 questions that I hope the moderator will ask Sarah Palin during the VP debate:
1. Can you see Czeckoslovakia from Alaska?
2. What would you do about the violence on the Pakistan-Iraq border?
3. Can you spell c-a-t without referring to the need to drill for oil in Alaska?
4. How is Ted Stevens?
5. What advice would you give McCain regarding the role of ISCI in determining Sahwa council integration and its related prejudices to the Badr Organization?

October 1st, 2008 at 8:08 pmGuess she didn’t have any problem with the decision reducing Exxon’s liability for that HUGE oilspill of the Valdez….
October 1st, 2008 at 8:12 pmPalin: Well, I could think of, any again, that could be best dealt with on a more local level.

That’s all I got after watching that.
October 1st, 2008 at 8:19 pm“And there are those issues, again, like Roe v. Wade, where I believe are best held on a state level and addressed there.”
Ignoring the missing fundamentals that constitute an actual sentence for the moment, it is obvious that Palin has no clue as the the nature and function of The Supreme Court relative to State Courts.
Frankly I think the moose she’s so famous for shooting must be smarter than her—and that’s why she shoots them (because of the intellectual threat).

October 1st, 2008 at 8:47 pmIt comes without any effort. Pallin opens her mouth and it gets obvious the emptness of her brains…
October 1st, 2008 at 8:50 pmSo much for thinking fast… The vice presidential candidate seemed to be forgetting that earlier this year, she criticized the courts ruling in Exxon after the oil spill.
That interview was painful, PAINFUL to watch!
October 1st, 2008 at 8:57 pmPlease keep her on TV, she’s the best thing for Obama!
In the latest Couric interviews she said she would counsel a woman to choose life (so she’s a pro choice pro lifer?) and agreed there is a Constitutional right to privacy, one of the central tenants of Roe v. Wade. Boy are the conservatives going to be mad about that!
On the rest of her nonsensical answers, crack out the Miss South Carolina 2007 “US Americans!” video again! How many times have we used that just this week?
October 1st, 2008 at 9:06 pmDo not underestimate Biden. And do not be afraid. We need strength, we need knowledge, we need somebody who has been through a lot of crises and knows how to frame the comments. I only hope that the same people who lost the last two presidential elections are insisting he not be himself.

October 1st, 2008 at 9:48 pmPalin was quoted as say: “Since Diana Ross left, they haven’t made any decisions worth remembering . . . .”
October 1st, 2008 at 10:17 pmi was watching keith’s rundown of her palinisms earlier and it struck me… it’s just bullsh!t, plain and simple, bullsh!t.
i tried to get through the little tome “On Bullsh!t”, by Harry G. Frankfurt, but it was just too dry and academic…
but, i’m pretty sure these palinisms are perfect examples of
bullsh!t.
that’s all.
October 1st, 2008 at 10:21 pmI was waiting for the followup question: “So do you think slavery should have been a states right issue?”
October 1st, 2008 at 10:29 pm“Palin: Well, I could think of, any again, that could be best dealt with on a more local level.”
She would have loved Plessy v. Ferguson and would have hated Brown v. Topeka Board of Ed.
Couric should have zeroed in on Brown as soon as that “.. best dealt ..” remark rolled out of her mouth.
She actually sounds like a Saturday Night Live skit. It’s hilarious until you realize she could actually become VP.
October 1st, 2008 at 10:35 pmWell, the McCain/Bush puppet masters have that lesson scheduled for Sarah for October 6th, the first day the Court convenes for the new term.
If Katie Couric wasn’t practicing so much of that “gotcha journalism” she would have known that, and if she had any respect and deference she would ask Sarah after that date. It’s such a lame question anyway, isn’t it?
So, Sarah would like to request a do-over for the 7th.
October 1st, 2008 at 10:39 pmThe scariest thing about Palin is she’s so insecure that the moment she realizes she’s blown a question she starts flailing harder. Instead of simply saying something like “I don’t see any point in discussing why I disagree with settled law, or with old history either.” she starts avoiding the question by spouting gibberish. And then when that’s not working she doubles down to gobbeldygook.
October 1st, 2008 at 10:51 pm‘
The really scary thing is this strategy has worked for most Republicans. It’s only failin’ for Palin.
Shorter me: Pailin’s flailing and failing.
October 1st, 2008 at 10:51 pmDoes anyone else notice that Couric seems like she’s talking more and more to a child? Her questions seem slower and more like when an adult is talking to a child trying really hard to do homework they just don’t get.
October 1st, 2008 at 11:09 pmMurlene Wilkes, the private contractor hired to manage Workmens’ Compensation claims for the State of Alaska at first released statements that no pressure was put on her in the case of Trooper Wooten, Sarah Palin’s ex-brother-in-law.
From this story posted yesterday:
Palin Implicated By Witness in ‘Troopergate’ Probe
it appears that Wilke’s story under oath suddenly changed, and after seeing hard evidence, including sworn testimony of one of her own employees, she admits to denying Trooper Wooten’s previously approved claim at the direct request of Sarah and Todd Palin.
Much more to Sarah Palin’s abuse of power and her vendetta against the ex-brother-in-law is beginning to surface. And of course, goon-husband Todd is right in the middle of it.
October 1st, 2008 at 11:10 pmI mean, I’m no Judicial Scholar, and I might have to go back a hundred years to do it, but I can name two off the top of my head:
1) Dred Scott.
2) Plessy vs. Ferguson
And I’m not even a State Governor (hell, I’m not even Dog Catcher)! Apparently, Palin never took a high school civics class (and don’t quote me her age, because I’m only a couple of years younger than her.)
That’s pathetic.
October 1st, 2008 at 11:10 pmManOnLI in #27 Says:
Oh come on! Really? REALLY?!? Not even Brown v. Board of Ed??
Uh, ManOnLI.
BvB ruled that “Separate but equal” is unconstitutional.
It would of been major news if Palin had indeed cited BvB as a ruling she opposed. :)
But I don’t think you meant to say you think so.
October 1st, 2008 at 11:20 pmAs bubble head Sarah knows nothing about the Supreme Court cases or Justices I was wondering would she call Justice Thomas a Sambo like she called Obama and will she call Justice Ginsberg the B word? Sarah was quoted as calling Obama Sambo and Hillary the B word with many witnesses and a waitness. Seems Sarah aka Chrissy Snow has no problem speaking her mind in public even if her remarks are racist.
October 1st, 2008 at 11:49 pmI’m sure that she’d disagree with the Lilly Ledbetter bill, if she knew what it was… no, wait, I forget… she’s not for equal pay for equal work, she’s a Republican.
I expect that she will be willing to take a pay cut as VP if she gets elected… Right?

October 2nd, 2008 at 12:06 amThe content of Palin’s answers is disturbing enough, with her obvious lack of knowledge. But her wording is abysmal– I find myself rereading many of her responses, and her thoughts are so fragmented it’s often impossible to understand her. Very frightening.
October 2nd, 2008 at 12:11 amOk, to be fair here, my problem here is not necessarily that she couldn’t think of a case she disagreed with (on the spot all I could think of was “Plessy V. Ferguson – separate but equal”); my problem lies with her not being honest.
Simply saying that “I am embarrassed, but I can’t think of anything right now” is much more respectable than the crap she spewed out. This is a systemic problem I have seen all over the place. Haven’t we had enough people that can’t admit that they don’t know or have made a mistake?
October 2nd, 2008 at 12:16 amJim from Wasilla: Damn, she’s the dumbest woman I’ve ever known. I can’t believe I had sex with her once.

Todd from Wasilla: Whatcha talking about?
Jim from Wasilla: The old days.
Bob from Wasilla: Yeah, how dumb we were when we were young.

Jim from Wasilla: She sure said a lot for Alaska.
Bob from Wasilla: Yup, the people really listen to her.
Todd from Wasilla: Well, gotta go fellas.

It would be a very hard case for the McCain campaign and its surrogates to prove Katie Couric is a sexist. That’s one Rubicon they don’t want to cross.
Now if they can get Couric to say, “The day I’m corrected by a retard…” in a fit of anger with Palin…then they might have something to go on. Then again, it wouldn’t be sexism.

October 2nd, 2008 at 1:37 am*head spinning* Couric actually called her on the contradiction and Palin went sailin’ by without even noticing.

October 2nd, 2008 at 5:42 amCaribou Barbie should not even be in this place. This is a cruel joke on all American women. What did they pick? An airhead with good legs (but shitty taste in clothes). Real women with real substance are out there but might not fit some focus group idea of womanhood. Barbie is merely a joke. She probably does not even know the three branches of government and their relationships. The very idea that this tramp might one day nominate a SCOTUS justice scares me to death.
October 2nd, 2008 at 5:46 amHere’s what she meant to say.
Fred Korematsu’s connviction should have never been upheld. I find it strange that even Bill Douglas voted for Japanese internment. The decision was based on prosecutorial misconduct. I’m glad that reparations were finally made and that our Aleut elders, who were forcibly removed to Sitka, received payments as well.
As far as Dred Scott, Plessy v. Ferguson and Brown v. Board of Education, I’ve already said, “I don’t do black guys.”*
