Hans Von Spakovsky Claims Obama Would Have A ‘Partisan And Politically-Biased’ Justice Department

spakovsky.jpgIn May, controversial former Justice Department official Hans Von Spakovsky withdrew his name from consideration for the Federal Election Commission, following months of opposition from lawmakers and civil rights groups. Since then, Spakovsky has busied himself by writing opinion pieces for conservative news outlets like the Wall Street Journal and National Review.

In an article for the right-wing Human Events today, Spakovsky criticizes efforts by Sen. Barack Obama’s (D-IL) presidential campaign to get attack ads by the “American Issues Project” off of TV, saying that the “actions should cause every American to ask, can Obama be trusted with the powers of the Justice Department.” Spakovsky claims that the Justice Department under Obama would be “partisan and politically-biased”:

There is no threat against television stations or a demand by Obama to criminally prosecute NARAL or other liberal organizations that are no different from AIP or the NRA except, of course, that they have spent millions of dollars for independent ads attacking John McCain and supporting Obama. This dichotomy provides a frightening example of just how partisan and politically-biased the Justice Department and other federal agencies would be under an Obama administration, criminally prosecuting political opponents while turning a blind eye to supporters like NARAL.

Spakovsky’s worries are ironic given that six of his former Justice Department colleagues wrote to the Senate Rules Committee in June 2007, claiming that he “injected partisan political factors into decision-making” when he ran the Voting Section of the DoJ’s Civil Rights Division. Critics say Spakovsky used every opportunity “to make it difficult for voters — poor, minority and Democratic — to go to the polls,” including pushing through Texas re-districting that violated the Voting Rights Act.

Additionally, Spakovsky neglects to mention that he has reason to hold a personal grudge against Obama. In Oct. 2007, Obama “derailed” a vote on Spakovsky’s nomination, which eventually led to Spakovsky’s withdrawal from his nomination. In an op-ed explaining his opposition, Obama wrote that Spakovsky had “amassed a record” of “putting partisan politics above upholding our civil rights.”

As if he and Bush did not create the same thing he is pre-accusing Obama of?

    Un-f-king-believable.

These neocons idiots are masters of Projection.

    LOL

Yes, this is pretty extreme hypocracy, but check out what the RNC is pullin’ in Milwaukee”

An official with the Republican National Committee said today a group involved with voter registration drives in Milwaukee is “engaged in systematic fraud and attempts to undermine our electoral system.”

The comments came from Sean Cairncross, the party’s chief lawyer, during a conference call with reporters in the wake of a report that the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now had hired at least seven felons as voter registration workers in the city.

The Journal Sentinel has reported extensively on problems with voter registration cards submitted to the city by workers for the group and another liberal group, the Community Voters Project.

The newspaper reported on similar registration problems in 2004, which led to charges against some voter registration workers, as well as state reforms that bar groups from paying workers based on the number of signatures collected.

So far this year, Milwaukee election officials have referred 49 cases of people who submitted potentially fraudulent registration cards to the Milwaukee County district attorney’s office. In some cases, the groups flagged the problems for the city.

On Monday, a 21-year-old Community Voters Project worker became the first charged in the matter. Authorities say they expect more charges but note in some cases cited by the city that charges will not be filed.

In a statement, state Democratic Party chairman Joe Wineke accused Republicans of “fabricating stories about widespread voter fraud in attempts to scare voters and divert attention away from the financial crisis that marks the final verdict on the disastrous Bush-McCain economic policies.”

From the party that stole 2 presidential election, has ushered in unverifiable black-box voting, and continues to illegal strike HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of legal voters off the rolls in OH alone.

Dang, they can make crap up. Is partisanized justice case dispensation like a collatoralized mortgage debt obligation? He can sell, I ain’t buying.

  12. Mr Blifil says:

Why do hard core conservatives always love to accuse their opponents of their own most obvious traits? Just to piss off liberals? What children.

It would be like Al Capone worrying that the Chicago police department promotes violence.

  13. 666lattes says:

So, now justice, in addition to truth, has a liberal bias? I guess since America broadly embraces liberal and Democratic values, when permitted to take them at face value, also makes the “American way” biased as well.

Oh, Superman, you partisan hack, you.

  16. nofltwlt says:

Well Hans is just speculating. However, he is speculating on the basis of what he knows and what he has been participating in for eight years.

What Hans is really saying is, boy we did it but we don’t want anyone else to do the same.

We now know that the DOJ has been a whore of the White House but we are pretty sure that this won’t happen under an Obama presidency because Obama is intellighent, whereas Bush, the GOP, the neocons, Grover Norquist and Tom Delay are not.

  17. WaltB says:

Hans sounds so much like he’s from a line of those Aryan folks that brought us the Third Reich. He was a part of the neocon machine that brought us close to the fourth one too. Now he complains saying Obama will have a partisan administration? It’s only partisan in his way of thinking because it won’t to the bidding of his side anymore.

  18. Bullsmith says:

You do have to admit that if anyone knows about turning federal departments into partisan hack shops it’s von Spakovsky.

  19. DidHeJustSayThat says:

I know this is the choir, but isn’t America as a whole fed up with the partisan garbage of the right? Can we not, for the sake of our country put to rest the tireless accusations.

These assertions are ridiculous in the face of the Bush regime. To reverse some of the DOJ destruction cause by Bush, in which Hans is complicit, it may take some leftward appointments. Who cares.

As for calling Obama corrupt: Pot meet Kettle, Kettle – Pot!

  20. VerbalKint says:

This lying sack of human waste has no shame. Typical Rovian psychopath.

Hans is just test-driving an ‘09 meme.

When his old pals at Justice indict him, he’ll want to be familiar with the steering – and how many miles he can drive before ditching it.

Yeah, enforcing Rule of Law seems to partisan to most Republicans, because most of them are crooked as hell.

Frankly I would like to see a justice dept that would jail all the crooked pols, no matter the party.
    Starting with Bush and Cheney.

  23. Chocolate Jesus says:

welcome to the new republican meme come Jan 20th…”all this is obamas fault”

does anyone doubt that no one on the right will hold george bush accountable for any future unpleasantries this country experiences once he leaves office?

  24. citizen_pain says:

Mind boggling. These people truly do make their own reality. They just don’t realize that reality is fantasy, and everyone is in on the joke except them.

  25. Bilbo Hussein Baggins says:

And he said that with a straight face? How could the Justice Department get any more partisan than it is right now.

But, I see what he’s doing. He is preparing the rhetoric for when Obama takes office and has the justice department he has appointed start investigating the crimes of the Bush administration. They will all howl “partisan witch hunt” and that the Justice Department has been politicized and that’s why they are going after the crimes of the Bush Crime Family. T

  26. citizen_pain says:

  27. Another Joe says:

Chocolate Jesus – if they get away with that, it will only be because the DEMS refused to hold anyone accountable.

There is plenty of evidence and they could enforce subpoenas if they wanted to. There is no way the lying pack of liars can withstand scrutiny from even moderately competent and diligent investigations.

If they get a free pass, don’t blame the criminals, blame those that enabled it in the NEXT justice department.

  28. Bilbo Hussein Baggins says:

    Buckie Boy Says:
And Dictator George’s aren’t? What an Idiot.

Speaking of dictators, I’m hoping that Obama or one of the 527’s does an ad showing Bush saying his “If I were a dictator” statement and then juxtapose McCain saying what he said the other day about “If I was a dictator” and then show “McCain = Bush” and say “is this what you want in a president?”

  29. Another Joe says:

Bilbo Hussein Baggins – according to the polls, it appears that American’s would rather hear the nonsense about “partisan witch hunt” than the quiet snickers of the criminal cabal behind dur chimpfurher laughing all the way to the bank.

I can only pray that the next administration will not give the criminals behind the most unpopular president in US history a pass – the whining by this crowd will not generate any sympathy from the American public, no matter how the “mighty wurlitzer” decides to “catapult the propaganda.”

  30. Another Joe says:

Don’t hold your breadth – more like you will see ads that proclaim, “I agree with bush/mclame on blah blah blah blah blah blah…”

Just like we heard last Friday.

  31. IgnoranceIsNotBliss says:

I think we are all on to the Rovian tactics at this point. Nice try though.

  32. dasm says:

As opposed to Bush/McCain/Cheney/Palin – who are NEVER partisan or politically biased?? What a moron this guy is!! No one will ever outdo Bush/Cheney/McCain for bias & partisanship. No one. Ever.

  33. Zooey says:

I’m sure Spakovsky is just giddy about the enhanced Executive powers President Obama will have.

  34. leoeris says:

He kinda looks like that creepy Nazi in Raiders of the Lost Arc.

  35. zuch says:

Can we stop with the “pot calling the kettle black” metaphor, please? That assumes an equivalence that isn’t there.

It’s the “pot calling the china cup black”. Really.

    Cheers,

  38. Game of Life says:

    repugs are simply wretch.

It’s not that they don’t know that they lie, it’s that they don’t care. They don’t care how they look in the publics’ eyes. They truly believe that US citizens are the butts of their inside joke.

If congress fails to enact the majority rights then we must act.

repug candidates are the best of the repugs…HAHAHAHAHA

  39. the Lone Voice of Reason says:

Yup partisan and politically bias. There won’t be anyone from the Heritage Foundation in it.

  40. cha cha cha says:

If there’s an Obama administration and one of his Justice Dept. appointees either: 1) lies to congress, or 2) gets subpoenaed and refuses to show up, then we can ask Hans for his opinions. Until then, STFU.

  41. Winski says:

    Rolling on the floor…..LOL!!…Bhwaaaaaaaaaa….

Hans Von Spakovsky has an opinion that he expects someone to buy…..Bhwaaaaaaaaaa….

    Spitting up now….Bhwaaaaaaaaaa….

  42. LibertyLover says:

A Constitutional Scholar that actually TAUGHT Law school would inject Partisanship into the DOJ??????

Wow. That’s rich, Mr. Van Spakovsky.

  43. wizard2000 says:

One wonders about what Hans Von “The Spaz” Spakovsky is really afraid of if Sen. Barack Obama becomes president?

With first Gonzales and now Mukasey, “The Spaz” Spakovsky has gotten away with breaking law after law in pursuit of his purely partisan, foully racist right-wing game plan at the Department of Justice (which became the Department of Just-Us under the criminal Republicans).

So, just like Bush and Cheney, and so many other criminal Republicans, is “The Spaz” Spakovsky afraid that an Obama/Biden White House might actually dig deep into what the outgoing Republicans have really been doing at the Justice Department?

  44. ucsbclassics53 says:

What a damn concern troll! OMG! The Democrats would politicize the Justice Department, so we must elect Republicans who would NEVER do such a thing…

  45. A Patriot Acting says:

For a person whose parents met while in a refugee camp for displaced persons after WWII, von Spakovksy sure has conducted himself like a good little bootlicker for George Bush’s fascist regime. Why isn’t this little Right Wing neocon toadie in prison allready? Oh yeah, thanks to the current Administration’s politically biased Justice Department. Hey Spakovsky…GO CHENEY YOURSELF AND PRAY THAT YOU DON’T FIND YOURSELF IN PRISON SOON!

  46. GL2814 says:

The guy looks like Heinrich Himmler!

  47. Max-1 says:

    .

    Dear Hans,
… Compared to just what, exactly?

    XOXO
    America!

    .

  48. Winski says:

The best and classic example of the Gates/Balmer/Microsoft, Bush, Cheeney, Rumsfeld, Rove, et.al. strategy of:

    1) assuming the public is stupid,
    2) telling them over and over that you have the ONLY answer for the issue,
    3) take advantage of assumption number 1 by putting the WORST available solution out there to that public, and
    4) repeating..

    Classic brainwashing….
